The current addition of College Hoops is head and shoulders over any other college basketball game on the market so I thank the developers for a great game. Most of the postings on this board are good but after playing the game a bit more there is one major addition the legacy mode needs to incorporate that has not been mentioned: GPA.

Players should have a potential rating (a discussed in a previous post) but should also have a GPA rating and or a SAT score.

Adding this to the Legacy mode would do the following:

1) A new requirement could be added to the Coaching Profile/Job Security: Academic Prestige. Schools that have high academic standards such as the Ivy League, Duke, Stanford, etc.... would require their coach to maintain that standard or be fired, therefore 5 star players who couldn't make the grades in the classroom would never be attending such schools. (and if they are you may be fired as a result).

2) Players may be declared academically ineligilbe for a season for poor grades.

3) A role-playing sense to the Legacy mode could be achieved by giving gamers the choice how to respond to an athlete in academic trouble. Will they follow the strict disciplinarian model or maybe try to bend the rules a little al la Jim Harrick and risk being fired and loose their coaching prestige. Furthermore, a "reputation" could be created over the course of a Legacy based on the actions of the coach. This "reputation" (disciplinarian, players coach, ect...) could be an important recruiting tool as it could impress or dissuade a potential recruit from attending that school.

This addition would give a greater sense of realism to the game as it adds an issue that all college coaches face in their careers.

If anyone else agrees or has ideas on how to improve on this idea, please post a response.

I admit buddy, you do have some good ideas. Especially since my post had a couple of them in them already. However, it's great that we both agree. Now maybe they will put them in the game. Good job dude. :D

The NCAA would only allow it to an extent. And Duke doesn't have higher standards for their basketball players. I read somewhere that their football team had an average SAT score in the 1300's while their basketball team was in the 800's.

good post

I really think that these are some of the steps to make the game more realistic. Why do we buy sports video games? Because of the realisticness. We like to take teams that we see in real life and try to beat the daylights out of anyone that we play. So obviously the more realistic the game, the better it does and sells (hint to the makers  ). That's what we crave.

GPA is underrated. There really needs to be a thing in the game where kids become academically inelligible and miss games. It happens in real life, so make it happen in the game. This will be a bigger challenge. And this should be on the player card. There should be something that shows the student's high school GPA. And then if it is borderline with the minimum of the school then the kid should either be a partial qualifer or have to go to a community college and I the coach should have the ability of trying to recruit him again. There is no possible way that a kid that graduated from high school with a 2.0 GPA would even be considered to attend Stanford. And the ACT and SAT scores could be thrown in as well but they aren't as necessary as the GPA is. They are semi-equal. That would make recruiting a little more interesting. This would be a sports video game first. Make it happen.

There is something else that I would like to comment on. When I have a kid transfer from my school because he isn't getting enough playing time, where does he go to? I know it's illegal to recruit him in real life, but there should be something in the game that shows where the kid transfers to. If I am lucky enough to be on his "where I'd like to transfer to" list, then I should be able to invite him to my school or something. Transfers are important, they could really help my school out. I would highly recommend putting something like this in the game. To refer to real life once again, if you look at a team like Ohio State, transfers are huge. They have really helped the team. Not only the two new kids that they got, but also the one that they lost. Someone else please comment on this. I think it's a great idea, but that doesn't mean that it's not.

once again keep up the good posting kghst18, and let's get our ideas in the game.

*also known as aHa13, that forgot his password... but I have better ideas when I think :!:

I think that's a good idea too, maybe players could have a happiness reading or something, like if they are far from home when their recruiting preferences were "Close to Home" or they aren't getting enough playing time, they would have a lower rate, so you could tell who might want to transfer. Someone else posted on the other board that you should be able to use some recruiting points convincing them to stay, that would be cool.

I would second the happiness reading. I think that it's a great idea. Let's face it people, transfers are not uncommon. We think that they are because the only ones that we hear about are the ones from the major schools and yet kids from smaller schools transfer (or just flat out leave school) all the time.

squidpants has a really good idea with that. At least with a meter we would have a better idea what was going on with our team and we would know about the players that are not happy and stuff like that. Please comment on it more if you get the chance squidpants.

No matter what anyone else says, there still needs to be either a GPA score or a test score in the game. I kid you not, ineligibility would make the game a lot more realistic. I say this because it's something that college coaches have to do with so we should be able to. After all, we are the coach in the legacy.

I think adding those attributes to the coaches, and players is a great idea, and only adds another dimension to the game. It makes it a little trickier during recruiting... great idea!

I'm not so sure of the happiness rating but the rest of the comments are great. Here's hoping the devs take this topic into consideration.
