First of all i've been down with 2K since 2K on dreamcast I've owned every single one. They've all been the best their respective years, and they've all done a lot of things right. Like a lot of people after 2K3 I was very optimistic about 2K4. 2K3 did so many things write and if things had taken its natural course and continued to progress year by year... wow 2K5 would have been a completely different game. Not to say that the change was completely for the worst. I definitely think it was something that needed to happen... so better then than now I guess is what you guys at VC had in mind. Everything I propose has been done by you guys in previous games and in 2K5, that's why I titled this topic the way I did... these things very possibly could be in ESPN 2K6.... and if so I guarentee it will be the best ever, by miles! What i'm about to do is break down the good points and bad points about 2K5 PROS & CONS, but i'm also going to recommend some additions for the good things and changes for the bad.... so here we go:
Another quick thing here is the button scheme I propose for 2K6... to better understand my vision.
XBOX:
DRIVE:DRIVING ANIMATION USED IN 2K5 (RIGHT TRIGGER)
SHOT: SAME
PASS: SAME
ISOMOTION: SAME/WHEN USING DIRECTIONAL PASSING JUST A BUTTON
PRO HOP/JUMP STOP: SAME
POST: SAME
ICON PASSING: SAME
PLAY CALLING: SAME
DIRECTIONAL PASSING (SAME AS 2K3): OPTIONAL CONFIGURATION (RIGHT STICK)
2K5 PROS: Graphics have never been a problem.... every game from now until oblivion can look like 2K5 and no one would complain so you guys shouldn't have to dedicate much time at all to graphics.
Player Momentum: The best in any basketball game... with another year to play with it after 2K5 i'm sure it's going to be great in 2K6.
Post game: The post game was the best thing about this game... you could go on the block and really dominate... that's where the majority of the teams points came from.... there are problems with some of the moves though, particularly the fade away, it always gets blocked. What's up with that? That is completely unrealistic.... a player gets his shot blocked because he's out jumped, or outsmarted. It shouldn't be because that's just the way the animation is. I say put the post fade away from 2K3 back in it... it was smooth (a very good animation/very realistic looking), and didn't get blocked all the time. Another big thing is the move where the guy trys to drive to the basket off of the post in the previous 2K games that was really the only post move that worked. In 2K6 use the same animation that is used in 2K5 with Isomotion where the guy drives around the other guy. Maybe change it a bit there should be more contact since its a post move, but overall the same concept, also this will be done by pressing the DRIVE button while posting up. Also since moving the directional pad while posting doesn't make the player move, it can be used to perform shoulder fakes before the ball is dribble and posting or after the player stops dribbling. Also by the ideas I wrote you obviously will need to be able to post up without the ball, you could do it in 2K4, bring it back.... that will help that back to the basket game. Another thing that will help is the ability to do pivot moves to fake in a certain direction these will be done with the Isomotion controls while holding the post button before dribbling.
Rebounding: This was also handled pretty well the only thing I would recommend is making it a little more competitive down there.... make some positioning moves in the game.
Game speed: The speed of the game was also great..... usually some of the players strides seem too robotic and unnatural not in 2K5 the players move like real players at real speeds that makes transition up and down the court very realistic. My only change would be to make the knob pressure sensitive (knob all the way pressed full speed, etc ) since there is no longer a turbo button, players speeding up and slowing down look kinda funny though, that should make that look smoother, and natural.
Plays: The plays in 2K5 are plentiful, there are lots of them and they all work well. The only problem is that it takes a while for some of them to start up. Sure you guys are already working on that so won't say much more about it.
I'm out of time for today so i'll try to finish this thing up tomorrow.... thanks for reading this far....
