September 29th, 2003, 07:21 AM
cheese=people who glitch the game. You know, peeps who FADE there qb 15+ yards or peeps who go for it every forth down or peeps who blitz everyone everyplay or call the same plays everytime on offense.
I would like to add
DOOCH
to this list cuz we were playing a LEAGUE game and i was killing his CHEESE *** and he quits at half time and said it was because i made a comment he didnt like. He knew he could have turned voice chat off but he makes pathetic excuses for playing like a child, normally i wouldnt have minded but this was a LEAGUE game and now my stats will be screwed all season. He is a little crybaby and is a waste of time playing.AVOID HIM!

I played Dooch and he didnt do anything wrong at all. Steve is mad at him for quiting, but Dooch says Steve was acting like an *** talking crap through his microphone and all kinds of crap as well. Its yet another one of Steves endless fights with someone on the message boards, you should see the posts in our league between these 2, its worse than when I was arguing with Steve. Anyway, Dooch is a fair player, I think half the people online would quit if Steve was up big and then started to act the way Dooch says he did. Quiting during a league game is unacceptable, but so is childish behavior and acting like an *** when you're already up big.

Here are some real cheese players:
1. ttrreess - did it all
2. hotsauce - does everything you can think of that you hate and just said "stop me then" and that kinda thing when i would tell him not to go on 4th or to stop doing the cheese plays. He doesnt get it.
3. thugstyle - quit on me when i was up 21-0, some cheese as well. He had a 21-0 record at the time.

I will NEVER understand why people WHINE so much about "cheese". If a coach in the NFL went for it every 4th down, would other nfl teams whine about it? NOPE they would love it because they would probably always beat them since it gives you such great field position and they never get the easy 3.
The only thing valid to complain about is if someone uses something that is IMPOSSIBLE to stop
so please, just quit whining and play the game. I don't "cheese' because I'm smart, I actually love when people go for it on 4th and give me good field position. There's always a reason why they dont do things in the nfl, dont whine about it, just make them pay for it to realize why they dont do it in the nfl

going 4 it on 4th is no the main thing running sweep every play with 1 of the top rb is cheese. Stacking the d line every play is cheese. All the other bs thats not going 2 happen in a real nfl game!!!!!!!!!! Have play very few guys that play a real sim game get real this only 4 fun u dont get any money or any prizes for winning the most games so play fair thats all....
TheDemyelinator
September 29th, 2003, 05:27 PM
bills... don't you understand, that they do not do these things in the NFL for a reason, not because it's "cheese". They DO NOT do these things because it would HURT their chances of winning. This is a sim, so when they do something ilke stack the line every down you have to KNOW how to burn them. If it works against you then it was the RIGHT strategy. THe NFL is ALLL about winning, they do what's best to win they don't give a damn if the other team doesnt like their strategy or not.
Everythign can be stoppped, you just gotta know what you are doing. If I'm playing and something specific works against my opponent, why would I stop doing it?
BTW I play like the real nfl because I want to have the best chance of winning, the so-called cheesers are the easiest to beat. You guys just whine because you dont know how to play NFL football otherwise you would adapt and stop what they are doing.
Remember this is coming for a "non-cheeser"

running with the best runnign back every single play is cheese but stopable.fading back also a cheese tactic but is stopable.i agree with buffolo why woul u want to play a/g someone who doesnt use skillz but uses lil cheese tactics to win.the going for it on 4th down thing doesnt matter if they want to go for it let them. Its just not sim ball when they do it but thats not cheese.i think buffalo just wants sim ballers and doing all that stuff is not sim balling so therefore it doesnt matter if he can stop it or not b/c its fake and he doesnt want to deal with.Like me ^_^

running with the best rb is not cheese, it's smarts. Martz is a moron for not doing this. They may be ******s cuz they pick the best team just to win, but it aint cheese
Dropping back is also not cheese, just STUPID because you get 10-20 yard losses for sacks and less accuracy on throws plus your o-line can't hold the d-line when you run out the pocket so far.
It's not cheese just stupid tactics, and why would you want a sim baller only? Why must everyone act like how you want them to? This world is great because of diversity and freedom. Let them be free to play with whatever strategy they want.
Nfl coaches do everything for a reason adn dont tdo things for a reason, if people want to play with stupid decisions, let them, just make them pay for it

I understand the position of 'Lovin' it when they go for it on 4th' and all but the reason that is considered Cheese is due to the Video Game aspect of the game. That sounds redundant...and it is...but hear me out.
Just as this is the closest thing we have yet to real football (and btw...first person ROCKS) there are still things that dont' quite match up. It's a lot easier to succeed on 4th due to the same reason you can drop back 20 yards and send it to Owens on a string...it's a video game. Stacking the line and shifting to that side to try and stop a RB on 4th and 4...and I don't just mean Ricky Williams here...but stacking the line and PRAYING you stop him.
Again, just an observation. And this doesn't apply to 4th & 1, 4th & inces.

I couldn't agree with Revengel more. The video game aspect of it along with the game engine of ESPN Football itself makes it much easier to gain yardage than in the NFL. And in my opinion, even if a coach in the NFL thought/'knew' he could make a 4th and inches from his own 5, 10, 15, 30, etc... yard line, he wouldn't do it because the 20 or 30% (estimates) chance of him not making it FAR OUTWEIGHS the advantages of getting the first down. Fans would get ticked off calling for his head, the media would attack him like sharks to blood and his job would be in jeopardy.
If a player in ESPN Football goes for it 4 times on 4th down in his own territory and converts on 2 or 3 then it would be considered a success. In real life, he would be probably be fired if he tried this tactic on more than one occasion. EVEN if the coach successfully converted 50% or more of his 4th downs.
In video games, we don't have to worry about those outside influences (WHICH DO influence coaches in 'real life') when making our decisions in the game. Job security, bad press, morale, and the proverbial fear of 'losing the team' are all factors that contribute to coaches making rational decisions in real life. Those factore are obviously NOT present in a video game so we as SIM gamers attempt to re-create that atmosphere by trying to play 'true to life.' In our (the SIM's) opinion, this makes it a MUCH more enjoyable game.
I see the other point of view in that people should be able to play anyway they want to and I do respect that. I just don't want to play against them.

why arent there any fubled snaps or blocked kicks. I have seen an incresing # of blocked kicks and fumbled snaps in the nfl but these aspects of football never make it into the game. THEY ARE PART OF FOOTBALL and should be part of the game. I know this belongs in the "wish list" but i just thought of it when we were talking about all the rasons not to go for it. Also when there is less than a minute in the half or game 90% of the nfl will take a knee in their own teritory but in "game world" they dont make you pay enough for making foolish call like going for it in these instances. i know there is a chance of an int and ints in 2k4 =td's but really i think the game should have "nfl" logic and make negative plays more of an occurance when a coach is making a low % decision.

Last night I played PowerRunner34 a guy with 90+ wins and ranked in the top 20-30. Well, I played him in the past and he beat me 3/3 times. That was before I learned how to play defense.
So, I choose the Giant sand he takes his regualr Ravens and J. lewis. He loves to run as you can tell by the name. Skipping through the game, the result was a win for me 17-3 and I allowed about 60 yds rushing and less passing. He was fading at the end to get off bombs in a comeback attempt, but I figured he was desperate and didnt complain.
He wanted a rematch in the lobby, so I told him I wanted to use the Dolphins cuz theyre my other league team and I had used the Giants the past 5 online games. He refuses to play against them eventhough he knows I pass almost 2/1. He also sais that he only lost cuz he used the wrong playbook, SURE!!!
Well I chose the Falcons and he took the Ravens with a new playbook. What does he do? Toss every damn run and then the same screen pass or fade back 20+ yds for a pass to a wr. Then he used the dive at the line technique on defense, the hurry up to cause an offside tactic offense, he went on 4th down more than once with the lead, and NEVER used a new play eventhough he said he now had a new playbook, what a joke.
Well hew was up 28-24 cuz I refused to use cheese play to take a lead or go on 4th. Since he used replay for over 4 minutes, I decided enough with the cheese and gave him something back. I paused and offered a draw enough times that his timer ran out and I was able to force him to forfeit and I got the win. I wont put up with cheese like that especially from a guy with 90+ wins and a high rank. Get your wins form others like that, but not form me sucker.
Be careful playing this guy. He forced me to choose a weaker team, then he used cheese the whole game with 2-3 plays all game. I used 6-7 plays on one drive and showed him how to throw to Wrs, Tes and Rbs all in one drive, plus ran a reverse a Qb sneak and 2 RB runs. More plays in one drive than he used the whole game. He cant run on a good team either, so he better change his name.

Yo Evil...feel your pain...tho he didn't get the chance to beat me.
I faced him last night and he was all about 'toss sweep' but when I figured out his game he'd try and throw.
With no success.
The worst part was he went for it on 4th down almost every time. He never scored a touchdown...but got a field position switch with a fake punt on his FIRST DRIVE.
Sometimes there is justice...the server boots him.
Later he challenges me to a rematch and I basicly tell him he's not in my class...which he isn't.

Again, just an observation. And this doesn't apply to 4th & 1, 4th & inces.
It's ONLY a lot easier to succeed on 4th in this game because more often than not whoever is playing defense doesn't know what play to call. Dropping back 20 yards has the SAME disadvantages as they would in the nfl, the o-line can't block, you get less accuracy etc.. In the nfl, you tell me how OFTEN you see a DECENT team not get ONE yard when needed. 4th and 4 is SIMPLE to stop, I mean it's like a cake walk, if they run it. It is tough to stop one yard, especially against the teams with elite o-line or rb's. But it can be done as i do it very often.
The sweeps are sort of cheap because the AI defense takes stupid routes on the runner, but it can be stopped with high success. I just finished playing 3 games in a row and stopped it each time. Tried to do the pass to the hb and INT for the TD. I can play some mean defense it seems, and I use the patriots who's d-line has 1 friggin star! You guys need to understand something, you are asking for an nfl sim yet you don't know nfl defense enough to stop plays so you mark it off as cheese because you dont think you can stop it or you think it's too easy to gain yardage. I will give you one thing, there are a few too many broken tackles in this game, but they dont happen often against good/hard tacklers.
As for the guy who said coaches don't go for it because of outside factors, that's 100% false. It is your assumption, but the fact is that you have a very low percentage of getting it on 4th and anything more than inches. Even with 4th and inches, if the game is close the RISK is far greater than the reward. Giving the other team good field position will kill you. Coaches do not do it because it's a TON easier to score on a 30 yard drive than on a 60-70 yard drive. To start someone out in FG position is just STUPID and that is why coaches dont do it. Coaches job is to win, any way they can. If they could win by going for it on 4th they would, but it's too risky to even try it. Believe me, guys like belichek don't care what the media/fans are gonna say. Just look at the milloy situation, everyone hated the release but bill did it anyway because he's simply looking to win for now and the future.

You are ***** man, that's wrong. You get a 5 minute pause menu and to force someone to expire it is worse than any cheese you can think of. You basically did that because you didnt' want to lose, you ****ing *****!!!!!!! Just because you don't know how to stop him doesnt' mean ****. Have you guys ever thought about throwing some cb blitzes once in a while, to meet the rb for a 4-5 yard loss on sweeps? how about some safety blitzes from the outside etc.? Learn to play some damn nfl defense or shutup. I can't believe you just posted that thinking that you are a victim, you are a chump, straight up. That's bush league right there.
The best thing about being an nfl coach is POWER and FREEDOM to do whatever you want to help your team win. The game gives each user this and you go and literally CHEAT to get a win. Yea if he paused a lot he's a little ***** *** too, but you get 5 minutes, for you to force him to forfeit is cheap a** ****. if you were winning you wouldn't have done that, it's simply because you were losing late and that's a fact.
I can't say enough how much of a chump you are, I pity people who actually CHEAT to get wins. FUGGIN *****!!!

But Buffalo, who in the heck wants to play someone who does all those things your saying?? I don't know about you, but the reason I play is to have a competive game, like its played on the GRIDIRON. If I wanted to play someone whom goes for it every fourth down, or onside kicks every chance they get, etc. then I'd play with my neece who would just push any and every button, with no skill at all. I DONT JUST PLAY TO GET A WIN, I PLAY TO TEST MY ABILITY ON THE STICKS AND MY ABILITY TO OUT THINK THE OTHER PLAYER.

THIS IS THE WORST KIND!!!!!!!!
Im playing this guy named MSUBASEBALL (something). First he acts like hes going to be the Cowboys then he switches to the Bucs. No big deal I play him anyway. We have a great game back and forth. Talking the whole time how we hate quitters. Comes down to the fourth quarter Im up by 3 and he is driving in my territory. He gets to the 20 then throws a pick with 30 seconds left. i try to run out the clock ,but then he calls time out and starts asking me to quit. i say no but he keeps trying for the remainder of his timeout time. When that doenst work he tries the defensive matchup ****. Nothing worked so i got the win. Whats up with that a great game ruined for no reason.

Add DH_HARRIS to the cheese list. I played him last night... He used the dolphins. He scored a TD right away with a williams sweep. He proceeded to go for 2. Then he kicks an onside kick. You don't kick an onside kick in the first 2 minutes of the game. I quit the game after that.

I have a name to add to the list:
D Ray
Heres the story:
I have gotten to the point where I refuse games with people unless they are using voice comms. Something about using voice that forces people to behave like a human being (most of the time). Well with this D Ray character my philosophy was proven wrong. In the beggining he seemed like a cool guy. We said our hellos and chose teams, he chose Miami (of course) and I chose the Bucs. the game starts and he is talking about how he is getting ready for a tournament and he needed the practice (his online record at that time was something like 4-2). The game goes on and then he starts acting like a spoiled child, every flag or play that goes against him is BS and everything that works for him is part of the game, in his opinion. I had mentioned at one point how I hated kickoff returns because I felt it was too easy to get a runback for a TD after he ran one back, he replys with "Well thats part of the game, deal with it." on the next play (kickoff) I ended up running it all the way back for a TD myself and without missing a beat he starts yelling (yes yelling into the mic) "THAT'S BS, THAT'S BS!!!!!" I said "Chill dude, it's part of the game." and kind of chuckled, but in a jokingly way.
Anyway, the game continues and D Ray continues to b**ch and moan everytime I stop him or something doesnt go his way as if I am responsible for his AI missing tackles or dropping the ball. It got down to the end of the second quarter and we were tied 14-14 and I had the ball with 2 min left. I ran allstot and chewed up the clock getting a TD with 10 seconds left in the half. It had been a tight game up to this point and I knew I would get the kickoff in the second half so I went for points to try and build a comfortable lead (against Miami there is no such thing so you go for as many points as you can) After the score I setup for a 2 point conversion. Keep in mind I didnt audible out or try a fake field goal I chose a I formation from the huddle and made no attempt to conceal my intentions. 20 seconds ticked off the play clock until I hiked the ball and he had every opportunity to choose a suitable defensive formation. I ran a toss sweep to allstot and was untouched for the 2 points. D Ray goes NUTZ! he starts cursing me out saying I am a D*ckhead, how I am the reason Xbox Live is going down the drain, How I am not supposed to run a 2 point conversion if I am ahead (I am ahead by 1 score on miami, not 52 points). When I said "Hey man, I have to go for the points". He then goes crazy again and starts to scream at the top of his lungs how I am a M-Fer, c**ksucker, basically every word in the book. At this point I just want to preserve the win and get rid of this guy. He goes on and on how I am not going to win the game and thinking he is talking about actually mounting a comeback I say "Well, let's play, Cmon."
He is still going on and on how I wont win and kicks the ball off to me for the start of the 3rd quarter. I put together a nice little 3 minute drive for another touchdown and I start feeling good, then this guy acting crazy again hits pause and lets the clock run down to 3 min the whole time hitting the forfeit request trying to get out of the game without the game counting for either side. Of course I felt I worked hard for that win and wanted the stat, but this guy just sits and plays games with the pause clock. He then starts to taunt me over his mic and saying "You might as well quit M-Fer, your not getting a win because my clock reset to 5:00 while yours is down to 3:00. After sitting there for what seemed like eternity I finally just told the guy to grow up (the guy sounded pretty old, at least 30+ if I had to guess) and quit the game without getting the win stat.
The guy tried to join my game later that night and I refused putting reputation as the reason I refused, but to this day I am ticked off at that whole situation and how someone like that can manipulate my experience online like that.
Sega seriously needs to put in more ways for those of us who can act like civil adults to squash out those who want to act like idiots.

DO NOT PLAY "NEWJERSEYSBEST"
he joined my game. no headset. his record said 22-0-0-0 or so. ranked top 100, if i remember correctly. that made me wonder. he changed his team, selecting the rams. i'm the giants.
i return the opening KO for a TD. next drive, he scores off his first play. his twin receivers tied up my man covering corners and he went strong side for a td. with the score 6-7, he goes for 2 and converts (1st quarter, mind you). over the course of the 1st half, he continues to run the play over and over again. he scores again. i don't blame him on this. i learned from it. he wants to win, that's fine. as i learned from my mistake, i chose a nickel formation so that i'd always have one db play the run. the corners played the twin receivers. i had to choose that formation, because my blitzing plays go with man coverage. i could not afford to let one side of the field unprotected, that's why i put in that zone playing nickelback. in consequence, i shut him down. completely. 100% shut down. but he didn't even change his plays. at the half, the score was 14-16 in favor of him. i kick off. he went 3 and out. i appreciated his punt. it is early in the 3rd quarter (5min quarters), yet he is expecting the apocalypse. gets completely unsportsmanlike, to put it nicely...
i am on offense. 3rd & 4 on his 35. that's sure field goal range for mike hollis. he waits until i make my play selection, then pauses the game, changes the camera angle to side view and breaks out to the LOS. i had no chance to pause the play whatsoever. i still manage to run the ball across the first down marker. i change the camera angle and give him a negative feedback (as negative as it gets). the next two downs, he continues the procedure of altering the camera angle. then the quarter ends. i play my screen pass to the wrong receiver. remember that because of the side view and the quarter change, the giants were playing left to right instead of right to left. really, my head started to hurt. it was a nightmare, trying to concentrate under those brain-confusing circumstances is tough.
anyway, the ball drops incomplete and i run a no-huddle offense. i get tackled in the backfield. then i see myself on defense. i'm like "oh ****, i forgot what down it was." alright, he scores his 3rd TD. i'm on offense again, trailing him by 10 points (he scored a PAT FG). it's the fourth quarter. again, he pauses the game and changes the camera angle to side view! man, was i relieved when the game was over. at least i didn't get a quit or disc.

I would think stuff like camera angles would be locked once the game starts or done by the host with the other players concent. Little quirks like that give these idiots something to use when trying to **** people off. When these games are beta tested these are the types of things that need to be addressed in testing.

All depends on the food.
If you are talkin Roast Beef Sandwich, I would go with Swiss.
Steak or Italian Sandwich? I would go with Provolone.
As far as this game goes, Cheaters are easily beaten. Try finding some good plays on defense, and putting them in your audibles, that will crush one-play-wonders.

He used Dallas yesterday and we were down to 2:05 in the 4th I am up 38 - 21 and he pauses until the prompt comes to cancel and take the win or continue to hold. I took the win!
Hey EBSTAR22 if you ever view this I have a few things to say:

2) Your a wad that should have been swallowed!

Here's another to add to list.
IdiotWind
He did the matchups to cause divergance thing after he was losing and lost on 4th down. It took 5 mins before dive happened after he changed stuff.
Right when i saw him go in menu, i said are you trying to create divergance? And he said yes, because i don't deserve win. Mainly cause the game was lagging a little as i'm 56k. It's not that hard to get use to. It can rarely mess you up. Mainly just on kickoffs. I don't find it messing up plays. And then he even admits he dives in the main chat room with others in it. He's 12-1 in pro. Maybe his divergance didn't work for 1 of the games. Watch out for him. Won't let you win.

had another one tonight, idiot that is. Sorry I cant remember the guys name as I ended the game pretty quick, but the guy starts off by saying "Hit start **gger!" at which time I say "Excuse me!"
Thinking Im hearing things he laughs and says it again. Well with a big "Screw that!" i disconnected my Xbox and looked for another game. Why people feel they have to act this way I have no idea, it amazes me.

^^^^LOL... I have NEVER seen an NFL team onside kick it EVERY time... I don't think any coach is stupid enough to do that?!?! Oh wait... they should just sub in a Linebacker, then it would be OK, right?
Another player who does this is theTORMENT... he claims he never played me before... but I quit the game after the second onside kick...

Dont play "TauntingDestiny" This guy used phins against me Chiefs and he throws all down with the no huddle, he also takes the play clock to 1 before hiking and then goes for it on 4th down. He didnt complete and said i know how to diverge thats why im messing around and then says just wasting your time. After i score on him its 21-7 and i kick off and he laterals it out of bound and thats when i said screw it and quit on him even though i was up and kicking his ***. Beware hes ranked in 31. I thought if i was winning then if i quit then both our record wouldnt be affected but it seemed that after i quit my rank dropped a bit. I was 150 and after the quit im 170.
