Here are what I feel to be the "must have" features that will make 2K5 a bigger hit - and more realistic.
1) Practice Ice time. This would be great for human players to take their team to the practice rink and try different strategies, practice aiming shots, dekes etc.. - Some will say, you practice when you play other teams - but I'd like to "practice" when it doesn't count. When there is no other team trying to steal the puck when working on my shot aim.
2) Increase the skill of current team members. Doing this by taking the team to practice. You can train your team, increase their speed and give them a good work out. This would, over time, improve your team's individual stats.
3) In addition to the strategies already given in this game, I'd like the ability to either edit or create a new strategy. Doing this by placing path points (like Rainbow Six planning). You could create a brand new plan or base it off an already existing one.
4) A.I. addition: If after the human player plugs the goalie with the puck, if one of my AI teammates is idling at the corner of the net, and the puck happens to come to him - the AI should, on it's own, attempt to flick it into the net. Without having me to actually change to him. Since right now, the AI does nothing to help you other than move the players around. They don't seem to shoot, or take any initiative.
5) A better manual - one that I DON'T have to download first - it should come printed with the game.
6) In creating a player, it would be nice to have an explanation of ALL the skills and attributes and how they affect the player.
7) Improved Goalie aim - when the goalie needs to pass the puck it seems very "off" right now. It would be great if I knew either a) Where I'm going to pass it to (or who) or b) Just show the direction I'll be passing. Right now it's strange as my goalie will never, always give the puck to my player.
Thats about it right now. I'd love to see the first two items here actually make it into the next game. Whether it does or not will remain to be seen.
