I wouldn't call that cheating even though they are breaking the rules. Its called being physical and thats how the game should be played. This is not some ***** sport. It requires to be physical to win. Thats just the game.

January 25th, 2004, 11:31 AM
Cheating. Please. You are allowed a 5yd. chuck zone from the line of scrimmage, where pretty much anything goes. Those are the rules, and it's not cheating to jam a receiver in that area. In the Indy game, the cameras keyed in on Roman Phifer bumping Marcus Pollard beyond the 5yds in the final minutes of the game. He wasn't holding him, or grabbing him, but bumping him just enough to get him out of rhythm with his route. You are allowed to put your hands on a receiver. It's part of coverage. The referees obviously didn't see this grievous enough to throw a flag. Maybe if Pollard worked a little harder to get open instead of flailing around, crying for a penalty EVERY play, he could have made a play or two.
Cheating. LOL!

First of all keep in mind this is one guys opinion and he's from Pittsburgh. Contact like that after the 5 yds happens all the time in the NFL with every team. it is up to the referees to enforce the rules or to let the teams play at their discretion.
Plus it was a playoff game where the the refs decided to just let the guys play physical. It is the same reason the referees in Hockey put away the whistle in their playoff games, especially in a Tie Situation. This guy is entitled to his opinion but it sounds to me like he just has nothing to write about his own team.
If you think for one minute that I'm going to look at this Patriots season as anything but SMART HARD WORK...you're nuts. Physical play happens in EVERY NFL game...not just the Patriots games. I wish more teams were as physical as New England...and I wish more refs would just let them play. Marshall Faulk was a defeated man after that game...he shouldn't talk like that...they just got man-handled by the Better Team in 2001...just like Carolina's about to get Man-Handled in Houston. If Ty Law can make Marvin Harrison disappear...what do you think will happen to Steve Smith? And TRUST ME...Peyton Manning is a lot smarter than Jake DelHomme...Manning was Owned.

I understand your view hench, but come on they mugged pollard on bac to back plays,b honest(they mugged pollard)lol in front of the refs both times, guess pollard,s not big enough star for them to call a flag on!lol

January 25th, 2004, 12:05 PM
I do not dispute he was getting action after the 5 yds. But a couple of flags from the refs can stop that cra-p real fast. I think it is the reponsibilty of the Officials to enforce it. Would I have thrown a flag? In any regular season game...definitely, but I think refs tend to be a little more lenient in the Playoffs. It is unfortunate but like I said...it happens a lot in the NFL. I see guys get mugged all the time and there's no flag.

January 25th, 2004, 12:10 PM
Enforce the book, not according to the game. But you are right, they didn't enforce the book from the beginning, and if you set the tone at the beginning this **** won't happen.

i hear ya,but the game was on the line, and 2ce right in front of refs, look no matter jv,or seinor @miami(go canes)(<-u like my lil canes plug?lol)or on pro level,i think clear tugging of the jersey should b called!the pats dominated that game(dont get me wrong)but @ that point in the game, colts was down a td,and the thing that gets me,it was right in front of the refs,i can see if it was done out of sight of the refs, but point blank range?you gotta call that!lol

Look, it's a playoff game. If you have to rely on pass interference calls at the end of a game, just to keep you on life support, that's pretty weak.
GIANTS2n1
January 25th, 2004, 12:20 PM
all i am saying is that it was pass inteference, thats all,the game was a good 1,not sure if that flag had been called colts would have won,or anything like that!jus saying do you pat fans agree it was pass int.trust me when the 9ers did same **** too my giants(in game on the line situation)i jus said hey thats football, but it was pass interference reguardless!

I think some of the bumps were close last game where the 2nd guy was very close to being beyond the allowed yards. BUt, if the refs dont see it, its legal plain and simple. How many holds have you seen this year that weren't called? How many were called that weren't? Both of these teams got here with hard work and by playing good ball.
Now, Go Panthers!! NE fans have become too cocky for me and I believe they are overrated now. All the coverage and respect they never got b4 has been turned into too much by far. They played in too many close games and got too many bounces at the end to go their way, now its time for them to get back down to Earth and lose, lol.
GreyHoundSteve
January 26th, 2004, 02:50 PM
There was alot of hand checking on both sides so i think the refs thought it best to just let them play. If the pats had been man handleing them all game then we would have seen a flag but i saw Pollard push off on more than one occasion and he a HUGE man so i dont think theres any reason for anyone to be crying about the way the game was called. It was called fair on both sides...NE was just more physical.

Yes, I do actually. Why don't you go and research what the opposing QB's rating is against the Patriots defense. If I'm not mistaking, it's somewhere around 60. That's right, 60! That's no accident. Belichicks schemes make QB's heads spin. Cheating! LOL. I think your just mad because after the Patriots beat the Steelers in the playoffs en route to their last Super Bowl, they fell off big! They also bamboozled them the first game of last season on Monday night! They haven't been the same since. Teams were using the Pats blueprints to beat them.
Funny how the Patriots beat both of this years MVP's 4 times this season. Tom Brady should have been the MVP. Winning is far more important than stats.

yeah but you gotta admit they did get away with quite a few crucial calls. Besides it was a close game and those call really matter. Plus Brady is one of the luckiest men i know. First the tuck rule and than the knee. I mean my raiders had him a few years ago, but instead they called a bogus tuck rule. It would have been great to see Oakland and St. Louis in the final. It would have been a shootout for the ages.

You all got smacked by the PATS and embarassed yourselves against Tampa in the SuperBowl. Not to mention you come out this year like a bad stinky fart. The Raiders are a Disgrace to Football right now so enough with the TUCK rule cra-p. They should've done MORE to "move on" than to blame an Incomplete pass for their demise.
The Raiders would've been killed by the RAMS that year...only one team could've pulled that off and it was the PATRIOTS. Tom Brady is not lucky he's just the best QB in Football not to mention the smartest. You can have your Mannings...you can have your Farves, your Culpeppers, and McNairs and so on...when the GAME is on the line...I'll take TOM BRADY anyday over those scrubs. "Using a receiver in any attempt to re-create the Nancy Kerrigan incident."
"Hooking a receiver in any manner previously featured on a fishing show."
Are these from the official rule book? Reads like tabloid garbage to me. This guy writes for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, he's trying to appeal to the likes of people like MJG and other Pittsburg faithful. Let's be honest, I would be jealous too, if my team booked tickets and hotel rooms to a game they never played 2 years ago because they were beaten by an underdog and super bowl champ.
It's easier for you all to believe they are just lucky. Let me ask you one question though, how many times does a coin have to come up heads in a row before you realize it may not be luck... 14times? Maybe 15 will do it! :P

PERFECT!!! I am so tired of hearing the word LUCK and the PATRIOTS in the same sentence. I have never seen a more DISRESPECTED team than the New England Patriots...it's the most bizarre phenomenon. I don't see any other team in History get this much disrespect. It's Pitiful. No one said Sh-t when Dallas, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and San Fran were winning. I never heard things like LUCK when they played...I'm sick of the whole thing.
BUT it just makes becoming a Champion that much SWEETER. To he-ll with all you doubters. After Carolina Goes Down you chumps will STILL say the Patriots don't deserve it. So let me ask...what makes a team DESERVING of a SuperBowl Title? I always thought beating up the rest of the league was qualification enough...maybe I was wrong. But if New England SUCKS...well, I guess everyone else just sucks WORSE. We'll be the Champions of the National Suck League.
In 2001, I walked into a Miami Sports Store Looking for a Patriots Jersey...the store was LOADED with jersies from all teams...but I noticed very FEW patriots Jerseys. (this was early in the year..maybe pre-season if i remember correctly). So I ask the guy behind the counter(owner), who was talking with his Co-workers...maybe 2 people in the store besides me...So I ask how often his shipments come in and if they Custom Order for special requests. You know what this Jacka55 said to me followed by laughs from his co-butt buddies? He says, we really don't carry Patriots Jersies nor do we order them because they don't have any Superstars and nobody knows them.
So when the room settles from laughter, I looked up on the wall and pointed to a Cleveland Browns Jersey and said...You can carry this cra-p but you can't carry Patriots Jersies? No Stars?..I said...I can name 12 people right now that you should have on your shelf and in this store!...Sorry Man..he says. The Patriots just don't cut it. I swear to you this is a true story. Well, I left the store in AWE that this Dummy would run his store like that. So when the Patriots WON the SuperBowl that year I wanted so bad to go back to that store and ask that same group of FigureSkaters what they thought about my PATS NOW....I wanted to see how many Jersies they had...but I didn't.
I went back to that same mall about 2 months ago and the store was no longer there. This was one of my many experiences down here that made me hate FINS Fans even more. BTW, the Browns jersey was an old METCALF jersey. No Star Players huh? Maybe the NFL and the Sports World want to play dumb...but PATRIOTS FANS KNOW WE HAVE MORE STARS ON OUR TEAM THAN MOST. We had one hyped up STAR STAR STAR and it was for a Brief Time and it was a Media Disaster...his name was Irving Fryar. During that same time, a bunch of players were accused of misbehaving in a locker room with a female reporter. Then Drew Bledsoe jumps into a crowd and injures people at a concert...This is the kind of PATRIOTS cra-p that makes the news. This is what they'd rather talk about in the media when it came to the Patriots. And now that they are successful and trouble free...everyone wants to label them as Lucky.
Is it really so hard for people to turn on a Patriots game and just appreciate their Excellence? I did it Growing up. I was a PATS fan but I got to appreciate the Montanas, Kelly's, Marino's, Elway's and the success of their teams.,...why then is it so hard for people to see that Tom Brady will end up amongst those names? The kid is 26 and about to win a 2nd SuperBowl (IMO). Geez People  And the rest of the TEAM is made up of WARRIORS. I am convinced people are in denial about New England because most people belive it's SuperStars who win Championships. It's so hard to accept that a bunch of Blue Collared Nobodies coached by one of the BEST if not THE BEST could really be the recipe for success...and THAT'S really what wins Championships in this day and AGE. Instead of BASHING the Patriots, other teams should be taking notes. I know Carolina has, they are obviously the closest thing this league HAS to the Patriots and may be for a while until people stop HYPING teams because they have a Dante Hall to put them in the Playoffs. If I go to a store and they have a Keyshawn Johnson jersey but they don't have a Richard Seymour jersey...something is wrong

i think the reason they say the pats always use luck, is because almost all of their "big games" have been real close, and many of them rely on a big call.. they have to be a good team to get to the SB, but the old cowboys, steelers, 9ers, all dominated their opponents, i think thats the difference

Don't anyone respond to this message saying "EXECUTION, SKILLS, HEART, CLUTCH" because that is bulls*** and you know it. It was nothing but luck. Throw the ball twice and you will go to FG range and then kick it and take the win like p****ies. Most of you get mad if anyone does that in the video game but that is exactly how Patriots win and that is the only way they will win because they are LUCKY. There is no pressure if you are on the offense for one last drive it is like try to win if not lets go to over time. If you are the defense it is a whole different story cause it is do or die situation and more than likely the defense will stutter coz they are so nervous on what is going to happen.
So next time you talk about how good Patriots are look at their games (physical does not mean getting lucky with defensive interference calls, holding calls). One of the lucky teams ever to win both their Super Bowls in the same fashion with the same opponent player (Ricky Proehl) scoring the game tieing touch down with the same guy kicking the same FG. Lucky a**es.
More ignorant a hole garbage blather from jealous people. What is it going to take people?? 10 more championships? If they go out and win it all FOR THE 3RD! Time in 4 years will you then stop whining like *****es?
