I think I like the Rookie Squad in this one. A lot of the Sophmore's won't know how to play with Yao and his style doesn't lend itself well to this type of exhibiton

On Thursday, speculation circulated that Golden State and Portland had discussed a trade involving Van Exel, Warriors center Erick Dampier and the Trail Blazers' mercurial Rasheed Wallace, 29, the talented but inconsistent forward who is being paid a reported $17 million in the final year of his contract.
I don't like it for the Warriors because Dampier has been playing amazingly, but Van Exel has also really done nothing for them. Anyways they trade is out there so who knows.

I disagree with ya og. I think it is a good trade for both teams and here is why?
Golden St.- GS can opt not to resign Wallace and be way under the cap and this is important cuz Kobe is only going to one of three places. If the Lakers don't win it all he'll bolt. He'll either be stayin in Cali. The Clipps won't have the cap, but GS will, or Memphis, which has Jerry West and enough talent to do a sign and trade, or new York, but they are in shambles monetary and talent wise. So it's lookin pretty good for GS if they pull this off. Take a high draft pick and Kobe (if they get him) and rebuild quite nicely.
Portland- Dampier is a true center and will flourish with Randolph since either one can demand a double team and Dampier has decent range. Dale Davis can back up both spots. Miles can fill in Sf anf Van Exel can start with Stoudemire backin up both guard spots. Portland would be stupid not to pull the trigger if the Warriors offered this.

hmmm.........I like Melo and Lebron, but I think the Sophmores may get this. Look at the squad, they got Ming, Stoudemire, Prince, Ginobili, Murray, and Nene, and Boozer.....ah..wat the heck, the whole squad is good, but if Lebron has one of those shooting nights when he doesn't misses, and if Melo can get to the hole and also get hot, they could get the win, and don't forget Wade who is shooting great.........lets just say if Melo and Lebron can get hot, they can really make it a close game, but i doubt both players will be hot, it'll prolly be either one of them or none of them.............

Very good point, but why I think its bad is that Golden State isn't guranteed Kobe. So what if they don't get him, who would they have? They just lost their center that just exploded, and also a good point guard, and Rasheed isn't going to stay there. Therefeore in the end they would have gained nothing from the deal. I know they could be thinking of preparing for next season, but in this league where having a good center is a scarcity, you wouldn't want to lose a good one for basically nothing.
The deal is great for Portland, they are losing nothing in the whole thing.
If it works in their favour though, then its good I guess.

I know you're a Portland and Sheed fan, but the Blazers are trying to trade him so that they can get some value in return rather than just losing him in the summer for nothing. The trade really isn't bad, at least the Dampier part, but I don't know how Van Exel will fit with the Blazers (back to the bench Exel? lol).
Also Van Exel and Dampier's contracts are both player options next year sothey could even opt out and not have to play in Portland, therfore they retain their cap space. If they don't pts out, its a team option for Van Exel in 2005/2006 and Dampiers contract expires after the 2005/2006 season.

Warriors w/Kobe after Wallace deal (assuming he leaves)
C - Foyle/Murphy/Eschmeyer
PF - Robinson/Cardinal
SF - Dunleavy/Cheaney
SG - Kobe/Pietrus
PG - Claxton
If they got Kobe, J-Rich would immediately be traded, unless they tried sticking Kobe at point and running two SGs out there. Interesting, since Kobe likes to control EVERYTHING on the court, but probably wouldn't get the team very far.
The team is obviously a few pieces away, but it is by no means bad. It's a young team that should improve. In the event that the team re-signs Wallace for the mid-level after getting Kobe (unlikely since he probably would prefer NY), it's a playoff team. Lots of good role players to surround Kobe with.
The Clippers have better players, but they don't really have the depth that the Warriors do. Hard to say which California situation would be better for Kobe (excluding the Lakers of course).

the sophmores are stacked, even without yao. lebron will probly be a sub in the all-star game, so it will be evened out .
as for the trade, i like dampier cause good centers are real hard to come by in the nba these days. the blazers really need a backup pg too cause quyntel woods won't do from what i see. van exel would be perfect, but the concern is if he would accept coming off the bench. the blazers have been wanting to avoid the trouble players, but they got miles who slept in late for practice a few days before being traded. so guess expect the unexpected from portland lol

The Pistons are supposedly working on a deal that could bring Chicago's Marcus Fizer and Kendall Gill to Detroit for Corliss Williamson or Bobby Sura.
The Pistons are trying to create enough cap space to retain Mehmet Okur, who will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season. Williamson, 30, is averaging 8.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in 19.4 minutes.

I don't know about that trade. It sounds like Chicago is getting the better end of the deal there. Detroit is doing all that for Okur? If it costs them 2 players and one of them is a huge factor to Detroit's wins, I wouldn't do the trade right in the middle of the season.
I would just release Sura at the end of the season and sign another gaurd and just trade Williamson.

The Bulls and Pistons are, indeed, discussing a swap of Corliss Williamson for Marcus Fizer and Kendall Gill. Bob Sura's name hasn't come up because his salary doesn't work.

Well, Joe can do the trade, but it will not help the Pistons because he just removed a big time scorer off the bench. Imagine him starting for the Bulls....this guy would be killing the paint all night.
