Breaking news from the campus of Florida Atlantic University.
Word has just been received that the FAU Owls have hired new Mens Basketball Head Coach, Kyle Carpenter.
This announcement was made at 10:20am EDT, on Tues. January 27, 2004
by University President Doyal Boss.
Complete details will be unveiled at the formal press conference at the Owls Landing Restaurant, for the booster club luncheon later today.
Coach Carpenter, will inherit a lackluster program that has not yielded a winning program since 1996. In fact, the woeful Owls have not won more than 7 games in a single season since then. Including last years dismal 3-24 record...which ensured that team a spot in Owls history, as the worst record ever recorded.
Carpenter's coaching resume includes a stint at small-college, Pitt State University in SE Kansas as a grad assistant. He also served as the high school head coach at Independence High School for 2 seasons. This will be his first assignment as a head coach.
Stay tuned sports fans for further information, as it unfolds.

Live coverage from Florida Atlantic University (Owls Nest Restaurant),
Monthly Booster Club meeting.
FAU Pres. Doyal Boss: "Good afternoon to everyone. Thank you for attending as always. Today, it is my pleasure to announce a new member to our Owls family. I would like everyone to welcome the new Mens Basketball Head Coach, Kyle Carpenter.
(Light clapping from the room).
Coach Carpenter: "Thank you President Boss. And thank you alumni, and boosters. It is indeed a momentous day for me. Not only as a coach, but as a person. I am extremely thrilled to be here at FAU. Everyone has been great to me, since I arrived here. And I am honored to have the opportunity to lead this program to prominence."
(A chorus of clapping echos from the room).
News Reporter#1: "Coach, do you feel that you can actually turn this teams fortunes around?...I mean after all...this program has suffered through seven straight losing seasons, not to mention finishing last in the conference every one of those years"....."What makes you think you can bring a winning tradition to FAU?"
(Mumbling and whispering is heard widespread).
Coach Carpenter: " I understand your skepticism...after all you have no reason to believe me. But let me ask you this question sir...What do you have to lose in believing what I say?"
(Chuckling laughter breaks out).
Coach Carpenter: "I know that Owls fans are frustrated, and down-right tired of losing. My job is to redirect this program, that's the sole purpose for President Boss and the FAU administration for hiring me..right? So what if we surprise a team or two...or three or four...or heaven forbid...win the Atlantic Sun Conference?"
(A loud burst of cheering and clapping bursts out, and carries on for several seconds).
Coach Carpenter: " You see what I mean?...this community...and this school is ready to embrace a new era. An era that will have cause for all Owls fans to rejoice and break out that old FAU sweatshirt, and wear it again with pride....Folks, we're gonna surprise some teams. In fact, I think we're gonna shock the world"!!!
(The entire room goes berzerk with cheering and clapping...it's quite a sight to see some of the boosters high-fiving each other..like little kids on the playground).
Reporter#2: " Coach Carpenter....Coach.....Coach....."
(The Reporter has no chance of getting his question in...for the new coach is surrounded by a flock of loyal supporters, all wanting to believe).

***Coaches Notes***
"This year will certainly prove to be interesting for our team, our staff, and our fans. By us starting 2 true-freshmen....we will definitly have the team with the least maturity in the conference. But, we certainly feel that these guys can produce for us. Antwan Duncan (SF), has tremendous leaping ability..and he's has a good shot from 10-12 feet. Our other freshman, Jason Padgett is a local kid that lead his high school team to last years state championship. So, he's somewhat of a cult-hero. He has great footwork, and tremendous moves inside the paint. He is only a freshmen by grade...his on-court savvy is that of a junior (or) senior".
"Our back court has waterbug, Sherman Wilcox at PG. He is cat-quick, and can shoot from the arc. His running mate is Donell Boozer at (SG).
This kid has a pure shot from behind the arc....he is definitly a bigtime shooter, and I can see him setting some school records this year. Let's not forget our (PF) Jamaar Mobley, he is our enforcer in the paint. He has a nasty streak..and he will bang the boards with the best of them. Our only concern is keeping him out of foul trouble, and hopefully he will stay healthy for us this year."
"As far as our Subs....we have some very talented kids, that may very well end up in the starting lineup during the season. (SR-PG) Lamar Neal has the heart of a lion. And he can dish and drive, along with hit the outside jumper. (SR-SG) Benjamin Jenkins is a streaky-shooter. When he catches fire..he's automatic from 3 point land. (SR-SG) Christopher Wells is a kid that has the natural ability to be a dominating player, but he has to work on his mental game, he has a tendency to get into foul trouble.
"And we have 5 Freshmen that we look to for contribution as well. We'll start with who we call the "Alaskan Assassin", (PF) David Austin....he will be good, in fact very good. He needs to polish his game some..but, he has the tools and the body to hurt people inside the paint. Next is (C) Jeffrey Nielsen, who has a great frame...but needs to adjust to this level of the game. He was use to dominating at the HS level..now he needs to step-up, and be ready to play with the big boys. Another big-body guy is (SF) Joey Owensworth, he will be a vital cog in our team's chemistry. Once Joey starts believing that he can score...look out. His defense is already super-solid. A pair of (PG's) Paris Witherspoon, and Rodney Timmons will provide an extra spark when needed. We look for Witherspoon to be a great sub for Sherman Wilcox. And Timmons, will show added depth at that position as well.
"We have one redshirt this season, (FR-SG) Noel Adams. He will be a very talented player for us. He is presently working on his GPA, and will be ready to join the team next season. At 6'7"...he can rise above any opposing guards to take his sweet jumper."
"I am pleased to welcome my 2 assistant coaches, Charles Hairston and Isaac Barnett. These guys will help us bring you fans a winning program".

Sun Devils pluck Owls in Season Opener, 47-33.
(AP)Boca Raton, FL
FAU Gymnasium
They say that defense wins championships....Well maybe so, but it sure helps to score also.
Sunday nights season opener had all the makings of a storybook setting.
In front of a packed-house, new head coach, and a team that finally believed they could win. Perfect setting right? Wrong, someone forgot to tell the Arizona State Sun Devils that.
From the opening tipoff, it was apparent that this would be an "ugly" game.
In fact, one official said after the game "I haven't blow my whistle that much since I had playground duty" (he's an elementary school principal).
Both teams looked like it was their first action of the season. Miscues were a common sight throughout the first half, as the 'Devils strode into halftime with a 15-14 lead (sounds more like a football game, huh?).
A total of 23 turnovers were commited by both teams before the horn mercifully ended the first half.
"That was a horrendous first half for us, but thankfully it wasn't much better for Arizona State either", exclaimed Head Coach Kyle Carpenter.
The capacity crowd of Owl-faithful were waiting for anything to give them reason to cheer. At the 6:20 mark of the second half they finally got it. as (SR-PF) Jamaar Mobley stole a pass and went coast-to-coast for a thunderous slam to give FAU the lead at 24-23. The building literally shook as the Owls fans and players celebrated as if they had won the Big Dance itself. But alas, the celebration would be short-lived as the Sun Devils inside game started to take it's toll. Within the next 1:25 of the game, both (PF) Mobley and (C) Padgett picked up their 5th fouls respectively. And that would invite the visiting 'Devils to own the paint.
"When we lost Mobley and Padgett, we couldn't find anyone else to step-up and be the man", moaned Coach Carpenter.
(FR-C) Jason Padgett lead the Owls with (6pts-9 boards), followed by (SR-SG) Donell Boozer (6pts-4 boards), and (SR-PF) Jamaar Mobley chipped in with (5 pts-7 boards). The Owls were out-rebounded by a 38-29 margin for the night. Personal fouls dominated the statistics for each team as a total of 41 fouls were whistled, along with 34 turnovers altogether.
The Owls won't have long to lick their wounds as they travel to upstate New York, to face the 6th-ranked Syracuse Orangemen in the Carrier Dome this Thursday night.
(Note): Thursday night's game will be televised on ESPN2 at 8pm EST.

Using 11 minute halves, CPU sim at 15 minute halves.
(Hopefully this will allow me to play 2-3 games at night).

Orangemen Outlast the Owls in a 67-61 Shootout.
(AP) Syracuse, NY
Carrier Dome-ESPN2 Coverage.
After last Sunday's dismal season-opening performance against Arizona State, head coach Kyle Carpenter didn't know what to expect from his Owl squad as they boarded the jet north to face perennial power Syracuse in anationally televised game in the Carrier Dome.
But, the young Owls would not be intimidated by the cavernous dome, nor the thunderous home crowd that surrounded them. In fact, the Owls seemed to be inspired by the challenge. Even when the Syracuse (PF) strongman, Tyrone Reynolds hammered home a awesome windmill dunk, to cause the jam-packed crowd to raise the roof with noise....the Owls seemed intent on making this a close game. In fact (SR-SG) Donell Boozer hit his first 4 treys within the first 3 minutes of the game, to give the Owls the lead at 14-11. And the inside game of (PF) Jamaar Mobley and (C) Jason Padgett were a formidable force indeed.
"Our guys came out and played inspired basketball, and I couldn't be more proud of the entire teams effort. It would have been real easy for these kids to be awed by this place, and their team...but we hung with them the entire game", chimed Coach Carpenter.
Hung with them indeed, in fact if only the final 43 seconds could be replayed...the Owls just might have shocked the world...on national TV.
The Orangemen had a commanding halftime lead of 39-25. And to all who were watching, it looked like a bigtime blowout was imminent. But, when the 2nd half started, the Owls backcourt duo of Boozer and reserve (PG) Paris Witherspoon had other ideas. The pair combined for a torrid shooting night from behind the arc. Boozer scorched the nets for a game high 25 pts.-3 boards- and an impressive 4 steals. And Witherspoon answered with 3 treys of his own (9pts. total) and 3 steals to boot.
But a team like Syracuse cannot be rattled by mere offensive firepower.
And the mighty Orangemen pounded the paint all night long. With pre-season All-American (PF) Tyrone Reynolds leading the way with 18 pts, 14 carroms, and 4 blocked shots. His presence in the paint proved to be too much for the Owls interior defense.
"That Reynolds kid is just awesome. He is so huge (6'11-294) that when he goes to the hoop...he takes everyone with him...what a specimen", commented Coach Carpenter.
The Orangemen shot a blistering 65.4% from the field (partly due to Reynolds and his array of jaw-dropping dunks that he put on display), coupled with their (SR-PG) Alvin Green who dished out 10 assists, and drilled 15 points to go with an all-around stellar floor game.
"They are nationally ranked for a reason. They have amazing team speed, and obvious major strength in the paint to go along with it. But, I'm still thrilled with the effort our guys showed tonight..regardless of the final score" stated Coach Carpenter.
And the final 43 seconds provided a vicious twist for the Owls outcome.
Trailing by only 1 point, Boozer advanced the ball downcourt...and if by some freaky accident...he stumbled and lost control of the ball out of bounds. The Orangemen marched down and hit a trey, for a 4 point lead.
The ensuing inbound pass was picked-off by (PG) Green, who did a reverse layup to put Syracuse up by 6, with only 29 ticks remaining on the game clock. The Owls called a timeout, and devised a pick play for Boozer for a shot behind the arc...but....Green showed his vertical, and swatted it away..and the Orangemen were victorious, 67-61.
The Owls will come home to the friendly confines of FAU Gymnasium, to face Big Sky Conference foe...Weber State on Wednesday night.

Wildcats, Claw out a 48-47 Victory over Winless Owls.
(AP) Boca Raton, FL
FAU Gymnasium
After giving the 6th-ranked Syracuse Orangemen all they could handle during last Thursday nights ESPN2 game in the Carrier Dome, one would think that Lady Luck had finally shown up for the (0-3) Owls.
And from the start of this game, the Owls played like a team on a mission, as they raced to a 27-18 halftime lead. Lead in part by the inspired play of (SR-PF) Jamaar Mobley, who had 6pts and 8 boards at the intermission.
In fact, the Owls sagging 2-3 zone defense completely confused the visiting Wildcats, as they commited 11 turnovers and forced several errant shots by halftime.
"We felt like our 2-3 zone would limit their inside game. They have a great player in 7'1" (SO-C) Ted Austin. He has the tools to play at the NBA level in my opinion." remarked Coach Carpenter.
And if only the second half was a mirror image of the first half...the Owls would have a comfortable lead throughout the remaining part of the game.
But, the 2nd half proved to be frustrating for the hometown guys instead.
The Wildcats stayed with their gameplan to get the ball inside to Austin, and it eventually worked to perfection. Several personal fouls by Owls big men, (C) Jason Padgett, and Mobley...allowed the physical game of Weber State to emerge as a major factor.
"When Mobley and Padgett each received their 4th fouls, we knew that our inside game would be severly limited without those 2 guys. So, we tried to offset that with our perimeter game, primarily from Donell Boozer and a pleasant surprise in reserve (SR-SG) Benjamin Jenkins", said Carpenter.
The pair launched multiple trifectas, and actually hit on several occasions.
Boozer drilled a total of 3 treys, and Jenkins ripped the nets for 4 of his own. The dynamic duos performance kept the pressure on Weber State's
punishing inside game.
With 1:23 remaining in the game, the fouls had taken their toll for the Owls as both Mobley, and Padgett received their walking papers via their 5th personal foul, with 20 seconds apart. The Wildcats big man (Austin) had imposed his will, and it showed. But, amazingly the feisty Owls hung around..and only trailed by 1 point, 41-40.
But, as the familar feeling of despair had haunted the Owls this early part of the season...it became evident that this one was not meant to be..again
The 'Cats used a stingly man-to-man defense to force the Owls shooters farther away from the basket, and the once precise shooting from Boozer and Jenkins...became nothing more than desperation shots..by a desperate team. But, still the Owls would find a way to lead in this game at 47-46 with only 8 seconds remaining. Everyone in the building knew that the 'Cats would go to their all-everything player Ted Austin...so the Owls packed the paint..and braced themselves for the final seconds. The noise was deafening..and the tension was incredible. Was this the start of the Owls winning ways?
As the ball was advanced downcourt, all eyes were on Austin. The seconds ticked away..6,5,4,...the 'Cats (PG) drives the baseline and hoists up a prayer over Boozer's outstretched arms....and then everything went into slow-motion..the ball hung in the air for an eternity...that is until the sickening sound of the nylon nets swishing loudly..to silence to Owl faithful.
The final score read: Wildcats 48- Owls 47. Heartache once again resides in Boca Raton.
Next game will find the (0-3) Owls hitting the road for the Atlantic Sun Conference opener with the NC College Panthers (2-1), next Wednesday night.

Owls Bomb the Panthers, 69-50 in A-Sun Opener.
(AP)North Carolina College
In the conference opener for both of these teams, the visiting FAU Owls finally showed glimpses of prosperity for head coach Kyle Carpenter.
Aided by a quick 14-2 spurt, the now (1-3) Owls would never look back, as they shot lights out from behind the arc.
Even though only leading by a slim 24-22 halftime margin, the determined Owls would spread their wings in the 2nd half to soar past the surprised hometown Panthers. The NC College defense had no answers all night for the red-hot shooting of (SR-SG) Donell Boozer, who had torched the nets at the final buzzer for a total of 34 points, in which 27 of those came via the trifecta. Boozer's performance earned him not only the high scorer for the game...but also a place in the Owls history books. For amassing the most points scored in a single game, and the most three-pointers in a game at 9 total.
"What more can I say other than...WOW!!! I knew that he had a pure touch as a shooter, but I never dreamed he would put on a show like he did tonight", exclaimed Coach Kyle Carpenter.
In fact Boozer's offensive outburst fell just 3 points short of the Atlantic Sun Conference record for most points/ and most 3's scored in a single game. Not too shabby for a team that had struggled to score in 2 of their first 3 games.
And Boozer was complimented from behind the arc by fellow-Owl (SG) Benjamin Jenkins, who nailed 4 treys of his own. After the smoke had cleared...the Owls had drilled a total of 16 treys...with 10 of those coming in the 2nd half.
"Obviously I'm very pleased with our performance tonight. Anytime you can win on the road..it's a very satisfying experience, said a jubliant Coach Carpenter.
The opposing Panthers had few bright spots on the night. The one glimmer may have been the play of (JR-SF) Jerry Morton, who scored a career high 17 pts, and snared 12 boards. Otherwise no other Panther scored more that 6 points individually.
Top Performers: (SG) Donell Boozer-34pts, 4 boards, 3 steals. (47% FG)
(SG) Benjamin Jenkins-12 pts, 2 boards, 2 steals.
(PF) Jamaar Mobley- 10 pts, 11 boards, 1 block
POTG: Donell Boozer (now that's a surprise).
The (1-3) Owls will next host the (3-2)Indiana State Sycamores this Friday night at "The Nest".

Owls Lose another Heartbreaker to Sycamores, 57-56.
(AP) Boca Raton, FL
FAU Gymnasium
If they gave points for being close...the FAU Owls, might have only one loss this season. The Owls dropped to (1-4) overall after putting the hometown fans through another emotional rollercoaster Friday night, as they dropped a 57-56 gut-wrenching loss to the visiting Indiana State Sycamores of the Missouri Valley Conference.
"I'm at a loss for words right now...this is unbelieveable", stated a teary-eyed Coach Carpenter.
Unbelieveable....might be an understatement. The FAU Owls have been the hard-luck kids of the nation this season. Losing their second 1-point, last second loss in their last 3 games played. It seems that Lady Luck is merely laughing at the bewildered Owls at this stage of the season.
At the games outset it appeared that the (4-2)Sycamores would run-off and leave the Owls in their dust. Indiana State would reel-off the games first 10 points...and silence the Owl faithful in attendance. A hasty timeout by FAU seemed to calm the shell-shocked starters, as the Owls backcourt duo of Donell "Downtown" Boozer, and Benjamin Jenkins combined from long-range to bring the Owls back to respectability by tying the game at 15-15 with 5:15 remaining in the first stanza.
But, as they say..."Live by the 3...die by the 3", and the Owls would go stone cold for the next 3:40 seconds of the game, by scoring only 2 points and relenquishing a paper-mache defense that allowed the Sycamores the opportunity to penetrate the lane repeatedly for layups, or two-handed jams. Halftime score read: Sycamores 33, Owls 22.
Rumor has it that the paint peeled off the Owls locker room walls during the intermission. In fact, all of the Owls players returned to the court without saying anything, or showing any facial expressions whatsoever.
Whatever Coach Carpenter said, must have worked. The Owls hit the court with new vitality. Boozer drained 4 treys (from major-long distance) in consectutive trips down the court. And Jenkins followed suit with 2 of his own, to propel the Owls into the lead at 43-39, with 6:55 remaining in the game. "The Nest" was indeed rockin'.
After an Indiana State timeout, the Sycamores called upon their own arsenal of weapons in bigmen (PF) Jerry Whitney, and (C) Donnie Brown
who answered the call bigtime. The two mountains pounded the ball into the paint with a vengence. The Owls interior defense showed definite signs of cracking (in fact the play became so physical that Owls backup (C) Jeffrey Nielsen took a vicious elbow to the eye, that ended his action for the night), then Owls (PF) Jamaar Mobley picked up his 4th foul, as did (C) Jason Padgett. The momentum meter swung abruptly to the Sycamores at this point, with only 4:20 remaining in the game and the Sycamores back on top 51-47.
Coach Carpenter called a timeout, and pulled his troops together to format a different plan of attack. That plan proved to be in the form of 6'6" (SR-SG) Donell Boozer and his sweet jumper. Boozer dared the Sycamores to guard him...in fact even a double team didn't stop him from nailing 2 more trifectas to close the gap to 54-53, Indiana State. (:33 seconds left).
Indiana State was intent on working their dominance in the paint, but Padgett took a brutal charge..and sent 7-footer Whitney to the bench with his 5th foul. The Owls had the ball and only down 1..with 22 ticks left.
Stepping into the spotlight...Mr. Boozer who sent the obnoxious Owls fans into a frenzy by swishing his 9th trey of the night....Owls lead 56-54, with only 6 seconds remaining on the game clock. Sycamores inbound the ball..advance to mid-court...call timeout. The noise inside FAU Gym was at a thunder-pitch. Every fan was on their feet, screaming at the top of their lungs for their beloved Owls.
Indiana State inbounds to their (SF) who drives towards the lane, the Owls collapse in the lane..and he dishes it out to their (PG) Larry Jones.....who takes a three...........do I have to tell ya what happens?
Final Score: Sycamores 57, Owls 56.
POTG: Jerry Whitney (Indiana State)-16 pts, 21 boards, 4 blocks.
Outstanding Owls:
Donell Boozer- 29 pts, 3, boards, 3 steals, 4 assists, 2 blocks.
Benjamin Jenkins- 12 points, 3 boards, 1 steal.
Antwan Duncan (SF)- 9 pts, 4 boards, 1 block.
Next game: The Owls (1-4) will travel to Kentucky, to face the Campbell College Fightin' Camels in a conference clash, next Monday night.

Owls Thump the Camels, 62-35.
(AP) Campbell, KY
Winning a conference game on the road is always a rewarding experience,
but tromping a league foe on their home court is even more satisfying.
The FAU Owls totally took the fight out of the Campbell College Camels on Monday night, with a 62-35 sound trouncing. The lastest win put the Owls at (2-0) in Atlantic Sun Conference play, and (2-4) overall.
"We can be a very good team when things go right", exclaimed Coach Kyle Carpenter.
And Monday night against the Camels, everything went right for the Owls.
Racing out to a 28-20 halftime advantage, the Owls started the 2nd half right where they left off at intermission. Lead by the torrid shooting of (SR-SG) Donell Boozer who blistered the nets for 29 points (a back-to-back, 29 point performance) coupled with backcourt running mate, Benjamin Jenkins 12 points...proved more than enough to topple the out-manned Camels.
"Our guys just need to stay consistent, if we can do that..then we will be a force to contend with this season. And Boozer, just amazes me...this kid has been unconscious from beyond the arc lately", exhorted Carpenter.
In fact Boozer was so good, that his 3-point percentage topped 56% for the night (9 of 16). Not bad for a kid that has been battling the flu this week. And the surprise play of reserve (SR-SG) Benjamin Jenkins, may have elevated him into the starting lineup permanently.
Even the inside game of the Owls was dominate, (PF) Jamaar Mobley scored 9 points, and hauled in 12 boards for the night. (C) Jason Padgett added 4 points, and 7 boards for the Owls.
The Owls will now step out of conference play to play the Wisconsin Badgers at Madison, WI next Tuesday night.

Owls Shock the Badgers in a Slugfest, 52-49.
(AP) Madison, WI
Coach Carpenter warned his squad what to expect in the locker room before the game with the University of Wisconsin.
"I just pulled the kids together, and let them know that anytime you play a Big 10 school...it's gonna be a very physical test. I also warned them that playing in Madison if front of the "Grateful Red" student body can be somewhat intimidating...and to just play our game, and we would be fine,"
commented Coach Carpenter.
His words of wisdom and encouragement seemed to be just the antidote that the Owls would need to fight off the bite of the hometown Badgers.
From the opening tip, it was evident that the physical-style of play was going to be tolerated by the officials. With the Owls trailing 7-3, at the 8:15 mark of the first half, (SR-PG) Sherman Wilcox took a wicked elbow to his head...that sidelined him for the rest of the game. Coupled with the fact, that no foul was called on the Badgers strongman (SR-PF) Issac Ross.
Coach Carpenter stormed the court and protested the lack-of-a no call vehemently...but to no avail. Carpenter then promptly called a timeout and instructed his troops to "bow-up", and play up to the Badgers style of play. This advice seemed to give an added edge to the Owls. Over the next 6 1/2 minutes of play, the Owls scored inside with (FR-PF) Antwan Duncan doing the major damage in the paint. And (SR-SG) Donell Boozer responded with 3 treys, to give the Owls the lead at 24-23, with less than a minute before the intermission. But, the Owls resurgence was not without a prompt answer from the Badgers big-man, Issac Ross..who scored on back-to-back monsterous dunks to propel the Badgers into the lead at 27-24 as the 1st half came to an end.
The 2nd half was as emotional as any game the Owls have played this season..or any season in recent memory. The 1-2 punch of Boozer and Duncan was lethal to the Wisconsin defense. As Duncan ruled the paint, the Owls sharpshooter Boozer ripped the nylon from behind the arc. The two teams traded the lead back and forth the entire 2nd half...as neither team lead by more than 3, at any one time.
With under :30 seconds remaining in the game, the Owls received the biggest gift of the night..as the Badgers bad-boy, Ross picked up his 5th foul, to end his reign of terror on the court. The mood was somber for all Badgers fans, as they saw their All-American stomp his way to the sidelines. This was the opening of the paint, as (PF) Duncan hit a fadeaway, that brought the score even at 49-49 with :11 seconds left.
The Badgers appeared lost without Ross, and literally threw the ball out of bounds at the mid-court line with :05 seconds remaining in the contest.
(SO-C) Jason Padgett inbounded the ball to who else?...(Boozer, of course)
and he knifed his way throught 2 defenders as the clock ticked down..4, 3, 2,...he launched a trifecta over the Badgers (SF), and the entire Grateful Red groaned in unison as the shot hit the bottom of the net with 0:00 showing on the game clock.....Ding-Dong...the Badgers were dead.
POTG: Antwan Duncan( 18 pts, 11 boards, 2 blocks).
Outstanding Owls:
Donell Boozer (18 pts-with 6 of 10 treys, and 4 boards, 1 steal)
Jason Padgett (4 pts. 5 boards, 2 blocks)

In a jam-packed, Owl-infested FAU Gymnasium, and a national TV audience looking on..the FAU Owls won the hearts of the entire nation, by sending the 24th ranked St. Josephs Hawks packing with a heart-stopping 59-57 loss during ESPN's Big Monday game.
The Owls victory was only the second time in the last 10 years that FAU has knocked-off a nationally ranked opponent. That coupled with the fact, that this was their first appearance ever on Big Monday, made this a truly special occasion for all in attendance.
"I'm so very happy for our team, our fans, and our school. This is indeed a huge win for our program", shouted Coach Carpenter.
A huge win indeed. The Owls would not be intimidated by the swagger that St. Joe's displayed during pre-game warmups. In fact, that cocky attitude only seemed to ignite a fire within the Owls players.
"They came in here expecting to walk all over us. They had this attitude like they were so much better than us", flamed (SG) Donell Boozer.
In fact, it would have been very easy for the no-name Owls to flutter off into a corner considering all the ESPN banners, and TV cameras scattered all over the gym. But, as attested to before...these are not your normal FAU Owls of yesteryear. This team has welcomed any and all challenges, and this Monday night would be no different.
FAU came out in a 2-3 zone defense that seemed to frustrate the St. Joe's bigmen (Ford and Cash) during the first half. With the Owls own bigmen, of (SO-C) Jason Padgett, and (F-SF) Antwan Duncan, the Hawks would face a formidable interior matchup. Coupled with (SR-PF) Jamaar Mobley to flex his muscle...the Owls hammered the paint relentlessly throughout the first stanza. When the smoke cleared, and the bodies stopped flying at the buzzer..the Hawks lead 27-24, at intermission.
But, it was the trio of snipers for the Owls (Boozer, Wilcox, and Jenkins) that would ignite this team, and send this sellout crowd into a frenzy. Boozer promptly hit back-to-back treys, and Jenkins stepped-up to knockdown 2 trifectas of his own, to catch the reeling Hawks off-guard, as the Owls regained the lead at 47-45 with 2:40 remaining in the game.
The shell-shocked Hawks would look to their money players (Cash & Ford), and the two towers answered with an array of monsterous dunks..that temporarily silenced the Owl faithful.
Trailing 53-47, the Owls would rely on their strength..the outside game.
With Boozer being blanketed by a double-team...the cat-quick (SR-PG) Sherman Wilcox would emerge as the go-to guy. Wilcox weaved through the St. Joe's full court press, with his awesome cross-overs, and blinding speed..this enabled him to get free and nail 2 treys, to narrow the deficit to 55-53, with :35 seconds remaining.
Hawks mountain-man, Carter Cash would then show the crowd and the TV audience why he was last years Player of the Year in the Atlantic 10...by throwing down a humongous two-handed slam over two out-sized Owls defenders, to up the lead to 57-53 Hawks.
Welcome to the national spotlight, Mr. Boozer. The Owls (SR-SG) took control of the game, by promptly shredding the St. Joe's defense, and hitting 2 trifectas in the last :23 seconds, including the game-winner with :05 seconds left on the clock. But, the Hawks would have one last shot to prove their #24 ranking...as (PG) Al Richards drove down the court with the clock ticking down...suddenly, Wilcox swipes at the ball....and knocks it loose!!!!.....the buzzer sounds with a swarm of Owls fans canvassing the court, and their beloved team.
It is good to be an Owls fan...Hootie-Hoot.

After knocking off Wisconsin and 24th-ranked St. Joseph's in their last two outings, one could see why Coach Kyle Carpenter might be nervous about a mental letdown against Atlantic Sun foe, Mercer University on Monday night. But Coach Carp's fears were soon soothed as his FAU Owls thumped the out-matched Bears, 68-40. The Owls improved to (3-0) in A-Sun play, and (5-4) overall.
"I guess it's natural to worry when you've just beaten two very good teams in back-to-back games. But, I shouldn't second guess our kids, they played very focused tonight..and it showed on the scoreboard"
Indeed it did, in fact the visiting Bears were blind-sided from the outset.
FAU scored the first 8 points of the game..all coming from inside the paint.
And midway through the first half, the Owls had cruised to a 23-11 lead.
The majority of the scoring came courtesy of Owls (F-SF) Antwan Duncan, who hit a variety of short-ranged shots. As the buzzer sounded to mercifully end the first half of play, the scoreboard would read:
Owls 35 - Bears 21.
The second half proved to be no better for the Bears that the first, as the FAU offense kicked into high gear, and basted the Bears. (SF) Duncan would dominate the boards on each end of the court, with a total of 15 rebounds and a whopping 21 points to lead all scorers.
"Hey, Antwan showed up tonight didn't he?....Our staff and team knows how good he is as a player, and a person. Tonight he showed the A-Sun conference why he should be considered as Freshmen of the Year",
boasted Coach Carpenter.
The packed FAU Gymnasium started to chant, "All-American", each time Duncan and Donell Boozer would touch the ball in the second half.
Luckily for the Bears, it wasn't all that often..as the two sat out the last 6:00 of the contest.
In addition to Duncan's monster game, (SO-C) Jason Padgett knocked in 10 points, and grabbed 9 boards. Along with (SG) Donell Boozer's 10pts, and reserve (FR-C) Jeffrey Nielsen's 12 points, and 6 carroms..the Owls totally dominated the Bears in every facet of the game. The 28 point margin was the biggest for the Owls since 1996, and the largest ever in an Atlantic Sun Conference matchup.
POTG Award: (SF) Antwan Duncan-21 pts, 15 boards, 2 blocks.
Outstanding Owls: (C) Jason Padgett-10 pts, 9 boards, 1 block.
(SG) Donell Boozer- 10 pts, 2 steals.
(C) Jeffrey Nielsen- 12 pts, 6 boards, 1 block.
The Owls will next face another A-Sun opponent, in the (2-5) Georgia State Panthers at FAU Gymnasium this Wednesday night.

Owls Win 5th in a Row, Triumph over Panthers 55-42.
(AP) Boca Raton, FL
FAU Gymnasium
They say that winning is contagious. If that's true...then someone better take the FAU Owl's temperature. After dropping their first 3 games of the season, the red-hot Owls improved their A-Sun record to (4-0) with a decisive defeat of league foe Georgia State, 55-42 Wednesday night at FAU Gymnasium.
The latest victim for the surging Owls, was not gained without alot of body-banging in the paint. Georgia State boasted the top rebounding team in the conference, despite owning a (1-2) A-Sun record. But, it takes more than rebounds to derail a runaway freight train...and that train was visable in the appearance of (FR-SF) Antwan Duncan, who soared above the rim for 12 boards, and 3 blocked shots...not to mention scoring 16 points to lead the hometown Owls.
"This should prove to everyone, that Antwan is for real. He can play any type of game that I ask of him....tonight he was a bull in the paint", beamed Coach Carpenter.
But, the spotlight was also shared by (SR-SG) Donell Boozer, who threaded
the nets for 16 points in the contest. His consistent scoring output has earned Boozer national recognition, as the 3rd highest scorer in the country with an 18.8 points per game average. Couple that with a 41.3% shooting average behind the arc. (Whoooooo...said no-name Owls?).
(SF) Duncan received a helping hand in the paint from (SO-C) Jason Padgett, who hammered home a couple of nice dunks, scoring a total of 10 points, and hauling in 8 boards to boot, before getting a finger poked in his eye...an injury that sidelined him at the 5:00 mark of the 2nd half. (Padgett is expected to miss 1 day of practice, but be ready for the next game). Also getting in on the scoring act was (SR-PG) Sherman Wilcox, who dropped 4 long-range bombs of his own to finish the night with 12 points, 2 steals, and 4 assists.
The frustrated Panthers, seemed to unravel in the second half after only trailing 25-21 at the intermission.
"We played a very aggressive 2-3 zone tonight, and I think it definitly limited Georgia State from establishing any type of rythym with their offense. We just need to stay focused, and take one game at a time", remarked Coach Carpenter.
(Note): The Owls are now (6-4) overall, which is their best start in the last
5 years of FAU Basketball.
POTG: (SF) Antwan Duncan: 16pts, 12 boards, 3 blocks.
Outstanding Owls:
Donell Boozer-16 points, 2 steals.
Jason Padgett-10 points, 8 boards.
Sherman Wilcox- 12 points, 2 steal, 4 dimes.

Riding a 5-game winning streak, and marching into your hated in-state rivals house...you have the makings of Sunday afternoon's A-Sun conference clash between the FAU Owls, and the Jacksonville Dolphins.
The rowdy Dolphin partisan crowd (due to the fact that no tickets were available to FAU), gave the visiting Owls players a chorus of boos throughout the day. From the introduction of players, to the making of any basket by the Owls..the 'Phins fans rained boos down on FAU.
"Man, I've played in some hostile enviornments, but this one takes the cake...geeezhhh!!!", miffed Coach Carpenter.
The Dolphins tried desperately to coax (SR-SG) Donell Boozer into several altercations throughout the game. But, the star gunner would not be swayed. Boozer fired in 10 points in the first half, on his way to a 19 point outing, that royally chapped the Dolphin crowd.
When Boozer wasn't ticklin' the twines from long-distance.....(FR-SF) Antwan Duncan was swiping the boards, and owning the paint all day long.
Duncan, who was affectionately referred to by Coach Carpenter as "Dr. Dunk"....totally ruined any hopes of a J'Ville upset. The (6'9") Freshman hit shots from all over the paint..and really irked the home 'Phins fans, when he windmill-dunked, and jubilantly beat his chest, late into the game.
"I motioned to Antwan, to tone it down some.....at that point in the game we were up by 14 points, and there was no need to rub their noses into it",
Coach Carp grinned slightly as he commented.
The J'Ville Dolphins couldn't penetrate the paint, for fear of having the ball swatted into their fans laps...by the athletic Duncan, and (SR-PF) Jamaar Mobley..who helped to reject a total of 7 blocks on the afternoon!!!!
Indeed, it was not the day of the Dolphin...as the Owls lead 28-22 at halftime, which was the closest the J'Ville squad would get for the rest of the game. (SO-C) Jason Padgett hammered home an alley-oop with 2:10 remaining in the contest to put the Owls up by 18 points. And here came the chorus of boos..and finger-pointing by the sellout crowd. The Owls would be content with playing keep-away for the remaining :52 seconds, to seal their 6th straight win, and improve their A-Sun record to (5-0).
POTG: (SF) Antwan Duncan-14 pts, 9 boards, 5 Blocks.
Outstanding Owls: (SG) Donell Boozer- 19 pts, 1 steal.
(PF) Jamaar Mobley-7 pts, 5 boards, 2 Blocks.

Cornhuskers Shuck the Owls, 57-53.
(AP) Boca Raton, FL
FAU Gymnasium-The Nest
Riding the crest of a 6-game winning streak, and playing in the cozy confines of "The Nest", one could not help but feel confident about the Owls game against (5-7) Nebraska, Tuesday night.
But records mean little when your team plays in the brutally-tough Big 12 Conference. And throw in a rugged non-conference schedule, and you have a very seasoned opponent in the visiting 'Huskers.
"No...we didn't come in tonights game overconfident, I feel that Nebraska just played a great game...especially their two guards", said a dejected Coach Carpenter.
The 'Huskers backcourt dynamic duo of (SG) Madison, and (PG) Williams were nothing short of awesome all night. The two combined for an amazing 45 of the teams 57 points. With the (6'3") Madison accounting for 29 of those..which mainly resulted from behind the arc. And his running mate (Williams) constantly created havoc in the paint, by driving and kicking it out to Madison for the uncontested trey.
The intermission saw the 'Huskers take a 32-27 lead into the locker room.
The Owls sniper, (SG) Donell Boozer did his best by leading the team with 15 points in the 1st half. And then he continued to hit from downtown as the second stanza saw the lead change hands back and forth. Both teams played a little tight in the second half, as the turnovers seemed to tally more than the points. But, with 3:10 remaining in the contest, and the Owls on top by a slim 45-43 margin...it was once again time for the Great Owl Killer (Madison) to silence the crowd.
The hot-handed (JR-SG) was the recipient of several great feeds from Williams...to pave the way for his heroics. Madison hit three treys in consecutive trips down the court to propel the 'Huskers into the lead at 52-50, with only 1:05 left on the clock. "The Nest" was at a fever pitch, as the over-flowing crowd chanted for their two heros to emerge. Those heros were in the form of Boozer and (SF) Antwan Duncan, who have been the catalyst for the Owls during their current winning ways.
Boozer, then promptly answered the call with an awesome trifecta from way-out, to regain the lead at 53-52....with only :35 seconds remaining. The Owls faithful felt a miracle coming on. But soon, the miracle vanished, as the 'Huskers called upon their two guards to seal the deal. Madison hit another triple to steal the lead at 55-53, with :19 ticks on the clock. And as Boozer came downcourt, he threw an errant pass towards Duncan in the paint...which was picked-off, and put into the sure hands of Madison.
The crowd was praying for one last chance. And with :10 seconds on the game clock...Madison turned out the lights on the Owls comeback hopes, with a fadeaway jumper in the lane to up the lead to 57-53, and end the Owls streak at 6 games.
POTG: Corey Madison- 29 pts, 3 steals, 2 boards, 1 block.
Outstanding Owls:
Donell Boozer- 24 pts, 4 boards, 1 block. (8 of 19 from behind the arc).
Antwan Duncan- 16 pts, 9 boards, 2 blocks.
The (7-5) Owls will now put their unbeaten Atlantic Sun conference record on the line as they hit the road for a clash with the Stetson Hatters (7-1), this Friday night.

I'm not really sure...Boozer has a favorite spot at the left side of the arc, he drains probably 75% of the trifectas that he makes from there.
My other guy..Benjamin Jenkins is great from the top of the arc...almost automatic, until he gets tired, then his shot percentage goes down alot.
But..hey Bro, I take probably a total of 25 treys on an average game..give or take. So, if you have a decent shooter from behind the arc, he'll get ya some long bombs on a regular basis.
I'm gonna hate it, when Boozer graduates this year (I may be packing my bags, and leaving Boca Raton)...who knows?

Owls Top the Hatters 62-56, in A-Sun Power-struggle.
(AP) Deland, FL
Edmunds Center
With the top two teams in the Atlantic Sun meeting on Friday night, all eyes would be on the victor. As the jampacked crowd at the Edmunds Center braced themselves for a titanic battle between these two A-Sun heavyweights, it was apparent that this matchup would be memorable.
Each team had contrasting styles, as the hometown Hatters boasted it's aggressive interior game....while the up-tempo Owls enjoyed life on the perimeter mainly due to their outstanding trio of shooters (Boozer, Jenkins, and Wilcox) who had gained the attention of the media, and the rest of the A-Sun teams as well. The Hatters highly-touted twin-towers of Daniels and Gray, who both mirrored each other at over 7 feet each, were considered by many experts to be possible 1st round picks in this years draft.
"Their big guys are really tremendous in the paint. They are so physical, but they also can shoot the ball extemely well..they are the real deal" exclaimed Coach Carpenter prior to the tipoff.
And they both came to show all in attendance, that they were no flukes.
The first 3:30 of the game saw the Hatters big guys work the paint to perfection, with 4 dunks and an array of blocked shots, put up by the Owls. The scoreboard read: Hatters 14, Owls 6.
But the Owls regained their composure, despite a full-court trap applied by Stetson..which resulted in 4 quick baskets in transition by FAU, including 2 treys by Boozer..which closed the deficit to 3 points, at 19-16 Hatters.
The inside game continued to be a major factor for the Hatters, as they fed the ball to Daniels..who much to the delight of the Hatters crowd...slammed viciously in back-to-back trips down the court. The second jam, would cause Owls (SO-C) Jason Padgett to grimace to the sidelines with a shoulder injury..that would end his night abruptly.
The Halftime buzzer could barely be heard over the deafening crowd noise, to end the half with both teams deadlocked at 29-29.
Donell Boozer, the Owls star (SR-SG) would stand tall in the 2nd half..as he took the opening inbounds pass and drained a long-range trey, to temporarily silence the over-flowing crowd. But, the Hatters knew that their fortunes would lie inside the paint..as they mercilessly went to the hole time after time with the human skyscapers in Daniels and Gray.
And their drives to the bucket seldom came away empty-handed for the Hatters..much to the chagrin of the FAU staff.
As the Hatters scored down low..the Owls would turn-up the heat from the outside, to cause the scoreboard to blink repeatedly from the trifecteas that rained from the hands of Boozer and Benjamin Jenkins.
This sudden barrage of shots would propel the Owls into the lead at 58-54, it was a lead they would never relenquish. As the game clock ticked down feverishly..the Hatters were forced to foul continually...this would only delay the inevitable outcome of a hard-fought 62-56 Owls triumph.
POTG: Gregg Daniels (Stetson)- 24 pts, 16 boards, 3 blocks.
Outstanding Owls:
Donell Boozer-18 pts, 2 thefts.
Benjamin Jenkins- 18 pts, 3 boards, 1 block.
Antwan Duncan- 16 pts, 9 boards, 2 blocks.
The (8-5) Owls will fly back to the sanctuary of "The Nest", for their next game tomorrow night against A-Sun opponent Central Florida Golden Knights, to celebrate the annual homecoming festivities.

In a tightly-packed Owls Booster Club luncheon, all eyes and ears were on the beloved coach of the FAU Owls..Coach Kyle Carpenter.
"First of all I'd like to thank all of the boosters, and the fans for the overwhelming support we've received this season. Our team, and staff truly appreciates it...and I'll tell you what...The best is yet to come".
(Loud clapping graces the room)
"I certainly hope that over the next month and a half..that we'll only get better as a team. But regardless of the outcome, I am extremely proud of these fine young men (Carpenter glances over to his players) who have worked their tails off..to be winners on the court..for you."
(Louder clapping and whistling emerges)
I think it's fitting to release this bit of information at this point and time, it has been brought to my attention that FAU is in 1st place in the Atlantic Sun Conference...and our team has just been recognized by the ESPN pollsters as an honorable mention team in the nations Top 25".
(A chorus of hollarin' and whistling deafens the entire room..then the chanting starts...FAU..FAU..FAU..)
Yes, indeed the emotions are running high in Boca Raton as the Owls fans finally have a reason to cheer again.

Owls Joust the Golden Knights 50-45, in Homecoming hoops.
(AP) Boca Raton, FL
FAU Gymnasium
Saturday night's festive atmosphere was due in part to the Owls homecoming celebration. But, that celebration almost resulted in a shocking loss for the kingpins of the A-Sun Conference. With the visiting Golden Knights clinging to a 1-point lead...the Owls would fend-off the upset-minded Central Floridians with some clutch shooting from (SR-PG) Sherman Wilcox, to keep their conference record unblemished at (7-0) with a lackluster 50-45 win.
"Man, we just got lost in all the hoopla...that's the first game that I've seen our kids be totally distracted. I guess..maybe we needed a game like this, sorta like a wake-up call", said a frustrated Coach Carpenter.
It seemed as if the Owls would hit the snooze bar..and never wake-up. With 4:30 minutes into the first half, the Golden Knights had staked their claim to a 13-4 lead. And the FAU bench was fuming. In fact, for the first time this season..Coach Carp ripped-off his jacket and tie, and unleashed a verbal assualt on his underachieving starters. Who were benched for the remaining 6:30 of the half.
"Yeah...I kinda lost my cool. But, these kids are so much better than they showed tonight...I don't mind us getting beat, if we played hard...but, if the efforts not there...then I have a big problem with that" fumed Carpenter.
The Owls fluttered into the locker room with a 22-22 tie. And that was in thanks to backup (FR-C) Jeffrey Nielsen, who scored 11 points and ripped down 7 boards, to go along with 2 blocked shots.
Coach Carp's disgust was evident even after the Owls came out of the locker room...as he refused to let the starting five even warm up. But, with 3:25 into the 2nd half, and the Owls trailing 34-24...he sent the starters to the scorers table. The move seemed to pay off for the Owls, as (SR-SG) Donell Boozer immediately hit a trey..and (SR-PG) Sherman Wilcox smoked the nets for a total of 3 treys in less than 2:45, to bring the Owls roaring back into the lead at 36-35 with a little over 5 minutes left.
But, the Golden Knights would not succumb without a valiant effort, as (JR-PG) Darren Jones hit 2 trifectas in a row..to retake the lead at 41-39, with less than 3:00 on the clock. At that point, it appeared that both defenses would step-up and take control. The Owls (SR-PF) Jamaar Mobley rejected a missle into the crowd, which caused a vocal eruption of Oooohs.
Then the feisty Wilcox swiped the inbounds pass and went coast-to-coast and jammed it!!..game tied at 41-41.
As the Knights worked the ball around the perimeter, Wilcox stole another lazy pass..and raced downcourt..stopped at the top of the perimeter, and popped a trey..to send "The Nest" into a state of pandemonium. With little over 2:15 remaining in the contest and the Owls in front at 44-41, the game took a turn to being "ugly". Central Florida's (C) Allen Garrison drove to the lane, and was mugged by Mobley...Garrison despite hitting the basket, charged Mobley..and the two had to be seperated. The Owl faithful rained a chorus of boos upon his actions.
Garrison hit the shot from the charity stripe to tie it at 44-44. Now it was "Boozer time" as he swished an off-balanced trey, and was fouled viciously...he hit the freebie, to complete the 4-point play...Owls 48, Knights 44...with less than :35 on the game clock.
The remaining time resulted in very sloppy play from both teams as turnovers, and botched passes were the highlights. The horn bellowed to end the "ugly" win for the Owls 50-45. Thankfully the homecoming queen., Heather Dykes was much prettier than the Owls effort.
POTG: Sherman Wilcox- 19 points, 3 steals, 4 dimes.
Outstanding Owls:
Donell Boozer- 15 points, 3 boards.
Jamaar Mobley- 5 points, 7 boards, 1 block, and a fistful of Garrison's hair.
Jeffrey Nielsen- 11 points, 8 boards, 2 blocks.

Owls Bag the Belmont Bears, 61-41.
(AP) Boca Raton, FL
The Nest
Monday nights game against the the visitors from Nashville seemed to be nothing more than a yawner for the FAU Owls, as they dismantled the Belmont Bears 61-41, in another A-Sun conference slugfest.
But, the Owls victory didn't come without a price...as a total of 3 FAU players were injured during the course of the action on the court.
(SR-PF) Jamaar Mobley would get tangled-up in a mad scramble for a loose ball at the 4:50 mark of the 1st half..the result would sideline him for the next 6 days with a strained achilles, and the Owls leading 16-9.
As the clock hit the 8:00 mark of the 1st half, another Owls player would join the walking wounded list, as reserve (FR-SF) Joey Owensworth got his left arm sandwiched between the two big men for Belmont during a scramble for a rebound....prognosis was out 4 days with a torn elbow cartlidge, and the Owls still holding a commanding 25-14 advantage.
"We took some bumps and bruises during the 1st half, thankfully their injuries were somewhat minor..and they will be back to game form in the next few days", said a concerned Coach Carpenter.
The battered Owls would limp into the locker room with a 30-21 lead.
The second half was as rough n' tumble as the first. The painted area of the court was constantly covered with sprawling bodies of players from both teams. And the Owls (SO-C) Jason Padgett would then take control of the game via the offensive boards, which resulted in putbacks and a couple of awesome dunks...to extend the Owls lead to 49-29, with a litttle over 5:05 remaining in the game.
With the comfortable lead, the FAU reserves would dominate the rest of the playing time...as Coach Carpenter emptied his bench.
The crowd gave a standing ovation to it's starting five, for their dominance over the Bruins. This would be "mop-up time" for the reserves, no doubt.
But, with 2:10 showing on the game clock...another Owls player would fall prey to an injury. This time it was reserve (FR-PG) Paris Witherspoon, who took a smashing blow to his forehead, which resulted in 8 stitches to close the gaping wound. The Nest then became an angry mob, as they littered the court with debris..in protest of the Bruins bar-room style of play. With assistance of campus secruity, order was finally restored on the court, and the battered-Owls would survive the physical abuse...and end the Bruins hopes of any upset in this game.
Final Score: Owls 61, Bruins 41.
POTG: Jason Padgett- 17 points, 11 boards, 3 blocks, 0 cuts.
Outstanding Owls:
Donell Boozer- 14 points, 3 boards, 2 steals, 3 dimes.
Antwan Duncan- 11 points, 8 boards, 1 block.
Lamar Neal- 7 points, 2 steals.
2 others tied with 5 points each.
The Owls pushed their overall record up to (10-5),and stay unbeaten in A-Sun play at (8-0). They will next host the Tennesse College Tigers (4-6) on Wednesday night in an A-Sun matchup.

Conference-leading Owls Cage the Tigers, 63-52.
(AP) Boca Raton, FL
The Nest
As the battered and bruised FAU Owls prepared to take the court against Tennesse College Wednesday night, one would think that there was a shortage of uniforms...due to the shrinking number of players on the court for the Owls. But, in reality it was a lack of players that would leave the FAU Owls short-handed for this A-Sun matchup.
But, despite the lack of players to use...the Owls did not lack heart, or emotion..as they displayed a gritty performance by clawing out a hard-fought 63-52 win, and up their overall record to (11-5), which also enabled FAU to boast the only perfect record in the A-Sun at (9-0).
"When I talked to the kids before the game, my voice literally echoed in our locker room..due to the lack of bodies that we had tonight. But, I'm really proud of the tremendous effort that our guys put on display tonight" remarked Coach Carpenter.
And the major reason for the Owls success was once again attributed to the downtown bombs that (SR-SG) Donell Boozer heaved throughout the game. Coupled with Boozer's heroics, came the humongous efforts of 6'10" (SO-C) Jason Padgett who wreaked havoc in the paint, on his way to a monstrous 24 point / 17 rebound outing for the Owls.
In fact, the presence of Padgett inside, caused the Tigers to rely on their perimeter shooting to stay in the game. And with the deft-shooting of their (SO-SG) Alex Carter, the visiting Tigers kept the game very interesting....as he drilled a total of 23 points to lead Tennessee College.
The Owls lead at the intermission by 9 points, to the tune of 30-21. And as the Tigers spread their 3-guard offense...it appeared that this game might go down to the wire, due to repeated buckets by Carter and his crew. But much to the relief of the throngs of Owls faithful in attendance, they would not have to wait for any late game heroics in tonights game.
With the score at 46-41 leaning in FAU's favor, it was time for the wiry Padgett to take charge once again in the paint. With multiple hook shots(a total of 3), and 2 power-jams..the lanky Padgett opened a few eyes with his Dr. Jekyll-Mr. Hyde performance, as he widened the Owls advantage to 56-47, with less than 2:45 on the game clock.
"Jason, really surprised me with how aggressive he was tonight in the 2nd half. He literally owned the glass, and dominated the smaller Tennessee College interior players", said a proud Carpenter.
And to seal the win...Boozer then unleashed a barrage of long-distance treys, that awed the Tigers defenders...and brought the rowdy crowd to it's feet, as the game's outcome would be decided by a 63-52 final.
POTG: Jason Padgett-24 points, 17 carroms, and the Tigers respect.
Outstanding Owls:
Donell Boozer- 20 points (6 of 16 from behind the arc), 2 steals.
Antwan Duncan- 12 points, 7 boards, 2 rejections.
Your (11-5) Owls will next step out of A-Sun conference action, as they travel nortward to the nation's capital to face the 25th-ranked George Washington Colonials (9-3), in a Saturday afternoon televised showdown.

"Thanks alot, but I can't take all the credit...we've got some great kids, and I have a very capable coaching staff also. It's definitly been a team effort, to make this possible", remarked Carpenter.

Would you be interested in coming out West to coach the Lobos?"
Carpenter answers: " Uh... I'm flattered that your school would be interested in me at this time, but...geez, I still have an obligation to FAU and this team.....I appreciate this opportunity..I really do...but...well, can I atleast get through this season before I commit one way or another?"

Owls Shock the 25th-Ranked GW Colonials, 63-57.
(AP) Washington, DC
Charles E. Smith Center
The FAU Owls proved to be the spoiler as they invaded the nation's capitol,
and shot down the nationally-ranked George Washington Colonials, 63-57 in a televised showdown.
The visiting Owls would not be intimidated by the boisterous crowd, and the multitude of TV cameras throughout the Smith Center. As they have shown before, the little-known Owls would happily accept the Colonials challenge, and methodically strip them of their national ranking in front of their home fans, and the entire East Coast television audience.
"Our kids have the heart of a lion, and this afternoon they proved it once again...in a very tough atmosphere. Hopefully this win will prove to some of the skeptics, that we are for real", preached Coach Carpenter.
The Owls were challenged from the very opening moments of the game. as the GW Colonials scored the games first 8 points. But, the calm demeanor of FAU would not waiver...as the inside game of Antwan Duncan and Jason Padgett would provide a huge 1-2 punch for the Owls throughout the game, as Padgett would fire in 11 pts, and 8 boards. And his counterpart in Duncan would respond with another 17 pts, with 15 carroms.
The home-standing Colonials held a slim lead at the intermission, 31-27.
The 2nd half prompted both teams to tighten their defenses up. But, todays game would belong to the offense, as both squads would continue to rip the cords, up and down the court. With little over 3:00 remaining in the contest, the Owls would trail by a 54-51 deficit.
So, who ya gonna call?...............................How 'bout two senior sharpshooters in Donell Boozer and Benjamin Jenkins who responded with a blizzard of treys from the perimeter to bring the surging Owls back in contention, and silence the stunned Smith Center crowd. As the game clock melted-down, the Owls would demonstrate great ball-control, as they continued to play a game of "keep-away", much to the dismay of the Colonials and their fans.
The remaining :25 would see the desperate GW players foul repeatedly to try and secure another last-ditch effort to win the game. But, the sure shooting of Boozer from the charity stripe would spell doom for the Colonial hopeful. The shocked crowd and GW players could only glance up at the scoreboard in utter disbelief, as it read: Owls 63, Colonials 57.
POTG: Antwan Duncan- 17 points, 15 boards, 3 blocks, 2 autographs.
Outstanding Owls:
Donell Boozer- 17 points, 3 boards, 2 steals.
Benjamin Jenkins- 12 points, 1 steal.
Jason Padgett- 11 points, 8 boards, 3 dimes.

(AP) Troy, AL
Trojan Arena
Sweet home Alabama....would be the theme song for the FAU Owls recent visit to the campus of the Troy State Trojans, as they took no prisoners in a 68-44 rout in A-Sun conference action on Tuesday night.
The Owls would score early and often as their 1st half lead would balloon to 26-12, with a little over 4:20 before the intermission. The offensive outburst was keyed by the exterior prowess of the 3 amigos (Boozer, Jenkins, and Wilcox), who continually scorched the nylon for a total of 6 treys...in leading the FAU vaunted attack to a commanding 36-26 halftime advantage. But, despite the overwhelming performance by the Owls...the mood in the locker room would turn somber, as it would be learned that (SR-PF) Jamaar Mobley would be lost for the remainder of the season, due to a torn abdominal muscle that he suffered in the waning seconds of the 1st half.
"It's a tragic loss for our team. And I feel so bad for Jamaar, 'cause he has worked so hard on his conditioning this season...and to have it all snuffed out in an instant, is just totally unfair", said a remorseful Coach Carpenter following the game.
With the afterthoughts of their fallen teammate on all the players minds, the 2nd half would see the Owls blaze out to a whopping 25 point lead with a little over 5:00 remaining in the contest. Thanks in part to the inside-outside play of (SO-C) Jason Padgett, who netted 14 points and ripped down a total of 12 boards. And the pinpoint shooting of (SR-SG) Benjamin Jenkins who scalded the nets for a total of 16 points on the night. And the all-everything (SR-SG) Donell Boozer continued his hot-shooting, with a tally of 15 points (all from behind the arc).
The Trojans had no answer for the high-octane Owls offense all night, as
they helplessly watched FAU ring-up another convincing conference victory, to keep their A-Sun record perfect at (10-0), and move their overall record to (13-5) on the season, which also extended their current winning streak to 6 games.
POTG: Benjamin Jenkins- 16 points, 4 boards, 1 block, 5 dimes.
Outstanding Owls:
Donell Boozer- 15 points (5 of 9 shooting the trey), 5 boards, 1 swipe.
Jason Padgett- 14 points, 12 boards, 2 blocks.
Sherman Wilcox- 12 points, 2 thefts.

Golden Knights Gun-Down the Owls, 64-51.
(AP) Orlando, FL
UCF Arena
Revenge was indeed sweet...as the Owls 6-game winning streak came to an abrupt end Friday night, at the hands of the Central Florida Golden Knights at the UCF Arena in Orlando. The upset-minded Knights opened up the game with a run-n'-gun style of play, that usually plays into the hands of the Owls. But tonight, the Knights came up Golden....as they shot lights-out from behind the arc in route to a stunning 64-51 upset of the A-Sun conference's only unbeaten team.
"I gotta give Central Florida alot of credit tonight, they flat came out and took it to us from the very start of the game. We were forced to play catch-up all night long...and we just fell short", lamented a dejected Coach Carpenter.
It seemed that the Golden Knights wanted to prove that they should have beaten the Owls the first time they met in Boca Raton, back in mid-January
in a game that the Owls narrowly won 50-45.
The 1st half was as physical of a game as the first meeting...with bodies flyin' all over the court, and the fans at a fever-pitch. Several times the game had to be halted due to "live, blue-colored chickens being heaved onto the court" (evidently representing the blue-clad FAU Owls team).
This distraction seemed to work against the Owls, as they shot a dismal 32% from the field in the 1st half..enroute to a 29-23 deficit at the buzzer.
Thankfully for FAU, (SR-PG) Sherman Wilcox hit 4 treys, to give the Owls the respectable score at the intermission.
The 2nd half of play was unorthodox by both teams for the first 4:30 as neither squad could find their rythym shooting. This would actually benefit the hometown Golden Knights, as the usually hot-handed (SR-SG) Donell Boozer, was silenced into an uncharacteristic 4 point output for the entire game. And with 5:40 left in the contest, the injury-bug claimed the Owls (SO-C) Jason Padgett with a dislocated index finger on his non-shooting hand. This would sideline the stellar starter for the next 2 days. And despite the earnest effort by the Owls...this was just not meant to be their night.
"We couldn't hit a shot all night...even the point-blank range shots were an experience in itself. I guess it's just part of the game. Sometimes, you're
gonna have an off-night", remarked Coach Carp.
The Golden Knights twin-towers in Otis Bush and Claude Cuffe, would dominate the paint throughout the night. And Central Florida received a monumental effort from their (SR-SG) Blake Nance, as he smoked the nets for a game high 19 points, and Player of the Game honors.
The final buzzer pierced the noisy UCF Arena, with the underdog Golden Knights celebrating with their fans at midcourt underneath the scoreboard that read: Central Florida 64, FAU 51.
POTG: Blake Nance (UCF)- 19 points, 3 boards, 2 steals.
Outstanding Owls:
Sherman Wilcox- 15 points, 2 steals, 4 dimes.
Marvin "That's a Wrap" Mason (Owls trainer)-who did a great job on Padgett's dislocated finger.

The Nest
After last Friday night's poor showing against the UCF Golden Knights, it was impairative for the FAU Owls to rebound with a huge effort against a hard-nosed A-10 opponent. The Owls swooped into "The Nest" like a feathered phenom, in dispatching the visiting Rhode Island Rams 63-53, in a classic battle Sunday afternoon.
The Rams were regarded as a "bubble-team" by some of the experts, but they showed little respect for the FAU homecookin'...as the jumped out quickly to silence the noisy Nest, with a 10-4 run in the first 4:00 minutes.
Then the Rhode Island backcourt would harness a plethora of long balls to suddenly crack-open a 24-10 margin.
"We were totally emotion-less in the first half of play. I honestly don't know what the problem was. I really thought we would be ready for them", chided Coach Carpenter.
With less than 1:30 left in the first half, the lifeless Owls would soon embrace the challenge with a flurry of shots from the perimeter. This onslaught was commandeered by the Sultan of Swish...(SR-SG) Donell Boozer, who launched this offensive outburst to trim the score to 32-25 in favor of the Rams at the break.
Boozer's reaction toward the end of the half, seemed to be contagious in the 2nd half for the Owls. As his running mate, Benjamin Jenkins would take the center-stage by nailing a total of 5 trifectas, and pilfering 2 steals to rally the Owls...much to the delight of the ecstatic fans.
With 4:40 left in the second half, the scoreboard would show the Rams lead now dwindled down to a 44-43 advantage. Rhode Island's once vaunted perimeter attack went stone-cold, which opened the door for FAU to unleash it's high-powered transition game. As (SR-PG) Sherman Wilcox ball-hawked every trip down the court, the Owls two young guns (Jason Padgett & Antwan Duncan) were inpenetratable in the paint.
"Our big 'uns were simply marvelous tonight...Padgett played like a man on a mission, and Duncan is so quick....Wow", remarked Coach Carpenter.
With the inside game being locked-up by the Owls...the Rams would continue to try their luck from the perimeter. But, with the 6'6" Boozer's arms flailing wildly each time they tried to shoot...the result was a couple of airballs (which thrilled the Owl faithful), or a clank of the iron. It appeared that "Uncle Mo" had definitly left their side. Boozer continued his hot-hand, with 3 treys in the last 1:45 of the game...coupled with Jenkins, adding insult to injury...by twinkin' the twines for 2 more of his own. The Rams could only duck from the rain of 3's that continually dripped from the nets.
The final score read: Owls 63, Rams 53.
And once again all was right in Boca Raton.
POTG: Donell Boozer- 24 points (8 of 20 from 3-land), 3 boards.
Outstanding Owls:
Benjamin Jenkins- 20 points, 4 boards, 2 thefts.
Sherman Wilcox- 11 points, 6 dimes, 5 thefts... and no prints.
Jason Padgett- 5 points, 4 blocks, 8 boards.
Antwan Duncan- 1 point, 10 boards, 1 reject.

Less than 8 days ago, the FAU Owls cruised into Troy, Alabama...and escaped with a convincing 68-44 truimph over Troy State. Round 2 of this episode was even more brutal for the Trojans, as the Owls scored at will...on their way to a 74-28 laugher on Wednesday night.
The only time these two teams were close, was when the starters were introduced before the game, and shook hands at mid-court. The hapless Trojans were simply overmatched, as FAU scored on their first 7 possessions enroute to a satisfying 32-19 halfime bulge.
"Our kids were totally focused tonight, and everybody was on the same page. This was as perfect a game as I've ever been involved in", smirked Coach Carpenter.
The Owls would score from every conceivable spot on the court, even a half-court desperation shot just before the buzzer at the intermission..would swish the nets for a long, long-range trey..by (SR-SG) Benjamin Jenkins. Much to the delight of the joyous Owls fans.
The 2nd half would be just as one-sided as the first. As Coach Carpenter would empty the bench for much of the remaining time of play. Reserve (SR-SF) Christopher Wells would light up the nets for a team-high 17 points (mainly from beyond the arc) and 6 boards to lead the Owls.
He was closely followed by (SR-SG)Benjamin Jenkins with 16 points, 4 boards, 2 blocks...and (FR-SF) Antwan Duncan's 15 points, 11 boards, 3 blocks would highlight the FAU scoring column.
The closest the visiting Trojans would get in the 2nd half was at 47-21 with over 5:30 remaining in the contest. That lead would swell to 62-24 at one point...and then finally the scoreboard would stop blinking to display the final score at 74-28, a huge blowout win for the hometown Owls. The rowdy Owl faithful started in chanting..."One more time"...in response to wanting to play against the Trojans again.
POTG: Christopher Wells- 17 points, 6 boards, 1 block.

Coming off the heels of their biggest winning margin in school history (a 46-point bombing of Troy State), the FAU Owls once again spread their mighty wings...as they showed no mercy in humilating the hometown Tennesse College Tigers, 73-38 at Ellis Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Owls latest impressive victory would up their A-Sun conference mark to (12-1), and improve their overall record to (16-6). The battered Tigers would fall to (4-9) in the A-Sun, and (6-11) overall.
"Hey, when we're hittin' on all cylinders...we're kinda scary, huh? I just hope we save some of this hot shooting for some of our upcoming games" replied a pleased Coach Carpenter.
Once again, the visiting Owls would dominate the game's tempo from the very start....as they launched a torrid array of ouside shots, to propel them to a blinding 21-6 first half lead, with 4:55 left to play. The pure touch-shooting was being dispensed by (SR-SG) Benjamin Jenkins who roped-in 12 first half points, followed by reserve (SR-SF) Christopher Wells, who popped 10 points in his 2nd consecutive double-digit outing.
The awed-Tigers were left with little recourse, as they continually launched long-range shots from (SR-PG) Paris Slater, who connected on 3 of 7 from behind the arc, to give the Tennessee College fans something to cheer about. But, it was apparent that the might of the Owls would be way too much to contend with, as (FR-SF) Antwan Duncan would dominate the paint throughout the contest.
The Tigers sulked into the locker room with a 23-42 halftime deficit.
Even though the Owls primetime player, (SR-SG) Donell Boozer would be limited, due to a slight anke sprain, the perimeter game would not miss a step....as the hits just kept on coming, from Wells and Jenkins all night.
A combined 45 point performance by the two-trifecta makers would be more than enough to dispose of the Tigers, as the air raid sirens in Ellis Arena would blare profusely, from the multitude of treys that filled the sky overhead. Wells shot lights out, as he unloaded a total of 7 treys in all, in route to a 24 point outburst for the Owls. And equally impressive was Jenkins, as he fired in a total of 21 points, and 8 boards to salt-away the easy victory for the high-flyin' Owls squad.
The final buzzer echoed through the nearly-vacant arena, as few loyal Tigers fans remained to see the brutal end of a 73-38 whipping.
POTG: Christopher Wells- 24 points, and a spot on Sportcenter's Top 10.
Outstanding Owls:

The Nest
Lead by a swarming defense, and 4-players scoring in double-digits...the homestanding Owls would fend-off Northern Illinois 57-51, at The Nest on Monday night.
The Owls balanced attack would prove to a major frustration for the visitors from the MAC conference. Lead by the deft-shooting of (SR-SF) Christopher Wells, who was filling-in for the injured Donell Boozer...Wells proceded to tally 15 points, and yank down 6 boards to pace the Owls.
Following his footsteps were fellow-Owls, (SO-C) Jason Padgett with 14 points and 11 boards, then came (SR-SG) Benjamin Jenkins at 12 points, and reserve (JR-PG) Lamar Neal who also chipped in with 10 points to aid the cause.
"It was great to see such a balanced effort in regards to our scoring tonight
it certainly made it very difficult for Northern Illinois to key on any one person to defend", quipped Coach Carpenter.
The intermission saw FAU stride into the locker room with a commanding 33-20 advantage.
The 2nd half seemed to favor the Huskies, as they turned to their inside game and (SR-PF) William Perry, who flexed his muscular 6'9"-265lb. frame to haul in 14 boards, and pump-in a total of 21 points to pace the Husky attack. And the perimeter game also seemed to come alive for the canines.....as (JR-PG) **** Roland would catch fire, and cause the Owl faithful to hold their breaths, as the Huskies narrowed the Owls lead to 48-43 with a little over 2:45 to play.
"Their big Roland-kid, was a handful in the paint, and on the glass. He is a bigtime athlete in my opinion...and he showed it tonight", commented Coach Carp.
With their lead disappearing, the Owls would need to rely on some high percentage baskets...and they turned to Jason Padgett to fill that need.
Padgett drove the lane on three seperate occasions, and would be rewarded with two baskets, and two shots at the line (which he cooly nailed them both), and The Nest breathed a sigh of relief, as the Owls would now lead 54-49, with less than :30 left in regulation.
The Owls would continue to score from the charity stripe, as the Huskies went into desperate-mode, and fouled relentlessly as the remaining time on the clock would evaporate with the Owls clutching onto the ball.......and a hard-fought 57-51 victory over the Huskies.
POTG: Jason Padgett- 14 points, 11 boards, 2 clutch freebies.
Outstanding Owls:
Christopher Wells- 15 points, 6 carroms, 1 steal.
Benjamin Jenkins- 12 points (4 of 6 treys), 4 boards, 1 rejection.
(Game fact): Terry Fisher (6'4") HS-SR from Quail Heights, FL was in attendance at the Northern Illinois game. Fisher is being recruited by the Owls for the 2005 season.
The Owls now sport a (17-6) overall record, and will prepare for a road trip to Nashville, TN....in a pivotal A-Sun clash with the (11-7) Belmont Bruins this Thursday night.

"It's a tragic loss for our team. And I feel so bad for Jamaar, 'cause he has worked so hard on his conditioning this season...and to have it all snuffed out in an instant, is just totally unfair", said a remorseful Coach Carpenter following the game

Belmont Bruins Upset Owls 80-66, in A-Sun Battle.
(AP) Nashville, TN
Striplin Gymnasium
After running roughshod through their last two Atlantic Sun opponents, it figured that the FAU Owls were a team on a mission. But that mission turned impossible, as the home-standing Belmont Bruins out-gunned the visiting Owls 80-66, on Thursday night.
The recent loss, sent a ripple of hope through the A-Sun conference, as the Owls had held a stranglehold as of late. This setback could end up costing FAU the conference crown, should they not get some help from a loss by front-runners, the Stetson Hatters.
"We just got a good-old fashioned butt-kickin' tonight. I give alot of credit to Belmont for takin' it to us...in the paint and from the perimeter" said a chapped Coach Carpenter.
The Bruins took the opening tip-off and never looked back, as they raced up and down the court. The Owls normally fleet-footed backcourt duo of Donell Boozer, and Jason Padgett were no match for the speed-demons of Belmont's. The Bruins were paced by (SR-SG) Russell Hale, who fired-in a team high 22 points, and topped that off with 4 steals, and 5 boards.
At the intermission, the free-wheelin' Bruins would flaunt a 40-25 lead, much to the approval of the capacity crowd at Striplin Gym.
The Owls would never get any closer than 5 points in the 2nd half. But, no one could fault the monumental effort of (SR-SG) Donell Boozer, as he scorched the nylon for 33 points, in a 11 of 22 shooting performance from beyond the arc. Unfortunately, it would not be enough tonight, as the Bruins would gobble-up the Owls...and their once top-spot in the A-Sun.
"They shot an incredible percentage from the field tonight, we just seemed a step slow the entire game. And when you're playin' a tough team like Belmont in their own house...you're not gonna fare too well", replied Coach Carpenter.
POTG: Kevin Carlson (SR-PF) for Belmont- 17 points, 19 carroms, 3 blocks.
Outstanding Owls:
Donell Boozer- 33 points, 2 steals, 3 blocks.
Eddie "White Line Fever" Evans- Owls team bus driver, who managed to stay awake the entire long drive back home.
The shell-shocked Owls, who fell to (17-7) overall, and more importantly (12-2) in A-Sun play.....must now regroup and prepare for a titanic battle with conference leader, the Stetson Hatters (16-3) as they invade The Nest, for a crucial A-Sun matchup this Saturday night at 7pm.

Owls Topple the Hatters, 53-43 in Battle of A-Sun's Titans.
(AP) Boca Raton, FL
The Nest
In their first meeting back in January, the Owls were able to hold-off the Hatters 62-56 at the Edmunds Center in Deland, FL.
Now the rematch would hold the key to the A-Sun's top spot in the conference standings. And the hometown Owls would take advantage of this opportunity, with a huge 53-43 defensive victory.
The win would launch the Owls A-Sun record to (13-2), and up their overall mark to (18-7). Which in turn landed FAU a spot in ESPN's polls as a honorable mention "others" with 38 poll points.
"It's a very satisfying win for our team, our school, and by the noise factor at tonight's game...I'd say definitly by our loyal fans at The Nest", commented Coach Carpenter.
The opening half of the game would be more of a rugby match, than a game of basketball...as each team came out banging the boards, which resulted in players being strewn all over the court. Both teams trainers saw plenty of action throughout the day, as bandages were part of the team's uniform.
The Owls were paced by (SR-SG) Donell Boozer's deft-touch from the arc, as he netted 4 treys to give FAU a slim advantage at the intermission, by a score of 25-20.
The opening moments of the 2nd half unveiled another sloppily-played tempo by both teams. As the turnovers and fouls began to mount excessively. Despite the miscues, the stars managed to shine, as the Owls would rely on the eagle-eye shooting of (SR-PG) Sherman Wilcox who threaded 3 treys, and became public enemy #1 with a total of 6 steals, to thouroughly frustrate the Hatters backcourt the rest of the game.
The Hatters would boast the performance of it's powerful (SR-C) Gregg Daniels, who dunked his way to 16 points, and proceded to clean the glass with 19 boards to boot.
But, Daniels presence in the paint would not deter the will of Owls (SO-C) Jason Padgett who managed to score 10 points, and rip down 15 boards of his own.
The Hatters offense seemed to be it's own worst enemy, as they continued to lose possession of the rock on multiple occasions..enroute to an amazing 24 turnovers for the contest, and a dismal 28% shooting from the field.
The Owl faithful would squawk loudly each time the Hatters would bungle a possession....and the FAU-five would manage the game clock masterfully on their way to a memorable 53-43 A-Sun conference victory in front of an overflowing crowd.
POTG: Gregg Daniels (Stetson)-16 points, 19 boards, and several taunts from the Owls fans.
Outstanding Owls:
Sherman Wilcox- 12 points, 6 thefts, 4 dimes.
Donell Boozer- 17 points, (5 of 14 from 3-land), 5 boards.
Jason Padgett- 10 points, 15 boards, 2 rejections (just ask Gregg Daniels).
The fired-up Owls will now take their show on the road with a non-conference matchup this Monday night at South Bend, IN....home of the 20th ranked Fightin' Irish(17-4).

Luck of the Irish prevails over the Owls, 52-49 in OT Thriller.
(AP) South Bend, IN
The Joyce Center
The 20th-ranked Fightin' Irish of Notre Dame needed all their lucky charms to knock-off the pesky FAU Owls 52-49 in overtime on ESPN's Big Monday night telecast.
The unhearlded Owls would swoop into the Joyce Center with high hopes of defeating the Irish on their homecourt, and in front of a national TV audience. But, the luck of the Irish would be too strong for the visitors from Boca Raton, as Notre Dame used every ounce of it's energy and willpower to outlast the Owls.
"This is obviously a very tough loss for us tonight, but at the same time...I'm extremely proud of our kids, and their effort. We never quit for one second", said a dejected Coach Carpenter.
And ironically it was just a matter of seconds, that would prove to determine the outcome of this contest in the overtime period. With just 20 seconds left on the game clock in overtime, the Irish would rely on their calm, cool-handed super-sophmore guard, Alex Norris to seal the deal.
And Norris calmly sank an incredible 5 for 5 free-throws, with the Owls helplessly looking on at the inevitable outcome. In addition to his clutch shooting at the charity stripe, Norris also lead the Irish with a total of 24 points, 3 steals, and 7 dimes....in sending the Owls home packing.
"Norris, is a great player for Notre Dame. And his game toughness was dominant tonight against us", praised Coach Carpenter.
At the end of regulation, the teams would be deadlocked at 40-40, and the Joyce Center was in a state of frenzy. The overtime period evaporated so quickly, that before you realized what had happened....Norris was stepping to the line for the 1st of his free throws, and the game clock had ticked down to a paltry :35 remaining, and the Owls leading 49-47 (thanks mainly to the hot-hand of Donell Boozer, with 2 treys).
Then five free throws later, the dream had ended for FAU, as the jubilation of the Irish fans erupted onto center court, around the celebrant players and staff. And the scoreboard stared back coldly: Irish 52, Owls 49.
POTG: Alex Norris (ND)- 24 points, 3 picks, 7 dimes, and his spot in Irish folklore.
Outstanding Owls:
Donell Boozer- 15 points (5 of 14 from the arc), 4 boards, 2 steals.
Antwan Duncan- 12 points, 11 boards, (his 5th double-double), 2 blocks.
The Owls will now slip to (18-8 overall, and 13-2 conf.)as they flutter back to The Nest to face A-Sun nemesis, the Jacksonville Dolphins (13-10 overall, and 11-5 conf.) in a 8pm Thursday night tip time.

Another OT loss Haunts the Owls, 60-59.
(AP) Boca Raton, FL
The Nest
With A-Sun nemesis, the Jacksonville Dolphins coming to town this Thursday night, it would appear that the home-standing Owls would take advantage of a sub-par conference opponent, and seize the moment.
But, someone forgot to tell that to the upset-minded Dolphins...as they robbed The Nest with a stunning 60-59 overtime thriller.
"I'm at a loss for words....I can only hope that we somehow learned a lesson in our performance tonight", moaned Coach Carpenter.
That lesson might be....don't take anyone too lightly. For it appeared that the Owls lacked the knockout punch needed to KO the visiting Dolphins.
After heading into the locker room with a precarious 26-25 lead, all in attendance feared the "upset-bug" may have invaded the confines of The Nest.
Clinging to a 1-point edge, the Owls started the 2nd half as if someone had slipped Demerol into their squirt bottles at halftime. Costly turnovers, and sloppy play would allow the J-Ville team to regain their confidence, and show the rowdy crowd why they came to Boca Raton in the first place. Soon the tide of momentum would shift to the Dolphins, and The Nest would grow quiet.
With the upstart Dolphins flirting with a 38-33 lead, it would be time for a leader to emerge for the Owls. Hello..Donell Boozer. The 6'6" (SR-SG) would take the challenge and nail 4 treys, to propel the Owls to a 45-43 advantage with a little less than :45 left in regulation. But, when destiny calls...the underdog usually answers, and the Dolphins would hit a three, and a layup on a fastbreak to regain the lead at 48-45, with :12 left.
Boozer showed why he is BMOC (Big Man on Campus), as he cooly swished a trifecta with less than :02 on the clock to knot it at 48-48.
Welcome to Overtime.....and the Boozer before the buzzer, as one Owls fan so eloquently stated as the overtime period started.
Boozer once again answered the call, and popped in 3 trifectas to send the boisterous bellowing of The Nest into a fever pitch, and give FAU the lead at 57-55 with :50 in OT. But, fate once again would deal a cruel blow to the Owls hopes, as Dolphins (JR-PG) Adrian French would drop in a long-range trey, and steal an ill-advised pass to Boozer, as the clock melted away to under :15 seconds, and the score at 59-58 in favor of FAU.
French once and for all silenced the city of Boca Raton with one mighty off-balanced duece, to send the Dophins bench onto the court in jubilation, over their stunning 60-59 truimph.
POTG: Donell Boozer- 28 points, 12 boards, 4 thefts, 3 dimes.
The Owls will now see their A-Sun conference record slip to (13-3), and (18-9) overall. With little time to dwell on the what-if's.....the Owls must hit the road for a Saturday afternoon matchup with the (6-14) Georgia State Panthers.

Owls Slip past Georgia State Panthers, 58-52.
(AP) Georgia State University
The FAU Owls would need to regain some pride, as they prepared to take on the Panthers of Georgia State, in a 1pm Saturday tipoff.
Luckily, the Owls found their winning ways once again......as they would cage the pesky Panthers 58-52, and up their A-Sun record to (14-3).
"It wasn't pretty, but right now....I'm gonna take it, and be thankful" replied a worn-out Coach Carpenter.
The Owls showed ill-effects of their recent homecourt loss to Jacksonville, in the early moments of this game. Their usual calm courtside demeanor would be lacking today, as the first 5:30 of the contest would see them fall behind by a double-digit deficit at 18-7.
Then the services of (SO-C) Jason Padgett would be called upon, as the slender center promptly scored in 3 consecutive trips down the court. All of those coming in the paint, including a beautiful hookshot...that also drew the foul and the freethrow.
"Yeah, Jason really stepped-up and embraced the moment....I was very happy to see him take charge of the game at that time", stated Carpenter.
With the solid inside play of Padgett, the Owls would climb back into the game, and only trailed at halftime by 29-25.
The 2nd half exploded for the Owls offense, as they saw Donell Boozer light up the skies, and the nets for 6 trifectas of his own. And he would be aided by (SR-PG) Sherman Wilcox's 4 treys, and 5 thefts....as the FAU starting five would be awakened like a slumbering giant.
But, the Panther-pride would not fold without a fierce fight. And that force would come from their two backcourt guards. Both (Burrows) and (Fox) would ignite the crowd with a torrid array of trifectas of their own. A total of 6-treys would twink the twines over the next 3:45 of the 2nd half...and the Owls would see their lead dissolve to 49-47 with under 1:00 left to play.
But once again, it would be "Boozer-time". The silky-smooth senior guard, would leave the Panther faithful drop-jawed.....by scalding the nets for another 3 treys, to seal a hard-fought 58-52 victory for the Owls.
"I high-fived Donell after the game...and I just noticed that I have a couple of blisters on that hand", smiled Coach Carpenter.
Boozer's heroics (30 points, 5 boards, 2 steals) would earn him POTM honors in the Southern States Sports Magazines prestegious publication.
POTG: Donell Boozer (10 of 23 from 3-land) did you even have to wonder?
Outstanding Owls:
Jason Padgett- 9 points, 12 carroms, 2 swatted balls.
Sherman Wilcox- 12 points (4 for 6 from the arc), 5 thefts.
The (19-9) Owls will next face the (12-6) Providence Friars of the Big East conference tomorrow in a Sunday non-conference tilt at The Nest.

Owls earn Sabbath Day victory over Friars, 74-72.
(AP) Boca Raton, FL
The Nest
Sunday should be the day of rest....but neither team would even slow down during the fast-paced contest between two high-energy teams, that met for the first time in both of their school's history.
When the buzzer blared to end the game.....both teams could barely look at the scoreboard, which shined brightly: Owls 74, Friars 72.
"Man....what a game!!!!!!!.......Our kids played their hearts out today, and Providence showed why they are a force in the tough Big East", stated an emotionally-drained Coach Carpenter.
The game would see-saw back and forth from the very tipoff. Every trip down the floor would cause the jam-packed FAU Gymnasium to erupt with constant noise and emotion. The referees would exhaust themselves, just trying to keep pace throughout the game....and each team would substitute freely.
"When I took my shoes off....I had three blisters on my feet. But, it sure feels good to win one like this", remarked a worn-out Donell Boozer.
The fortunes of the Owls would once again rely on the sniper-shots from Boozer, and fellow-Owl guard, Sherman Wilcox......who stroked the nets for 4 treys of his own, and snatched 4 steals to infuriate the Friars.
The intermission would see the Owls in front at 45-36, mainly from the red-hot shooting from beyond the arc (10 of 16 treys) in the first half.
"We shot the ball extremely well all game, and what a huge performance by Donell again tonight", winked Coach Carpenter.
The Friars came out firing themselves in the 2nd half, as (SR-SG) Ronnie Whitten drilled a multitude of trifectas from all around the perimeter. In fact Whitten would hit 5 treys consecutively, to bring the Friars roaring back into the lead with 4:35 out of the locker room. And his scoring barrage enabled Providence to regain the lead at 57-56.
The Nest would rustle with uneasyness, as they feared another game slipping away. But, Boozer took the reins and showed the Friars a little shock and awe of his own....by swishing 3 treys in four tries, to snatch momentum and the lead at 65-62.....with the game clock winding down to 3:05 left in regulation.
Both teams exchanged attempted knock-out blows, but neither would succumb to the others might. Both coaches used their reserves frequently, and with :25 remaining, the Owls were clinging to a 71-70 advantage.
"I told our guys to stay focused, and not to allow them to penetrate the paint. They had shown a pattern for going to their big power forward in the 2nd half, so I nodded at Antwan (Duncan), and Jason (Padgett) to be ready....I needed them to step-up", said Carpenter.
The Friars would indeed try the paint, and Padgett deflected a bounce pass, that was scooped-up by Wilcox and then passed to Boozer downcourt....who rippled the nylon with a gorgeous trey...that sent the Owl faithful into a state of pandemonium. The Friars tried desperately to work it downcourt, which was uncontested by the Owls defenders, and the Friars settled for a meaningless basket with :03 remaining......and then the last few seconds disappeared with the Owls being swarmed by the massive student body crowd.
The final score would shine like a beacon throughout The Nest: 74-72.
POTG: Donell Boozer- 32 points (10 of 22 from 3-land), 8 boards, 3 thefts.
Outstanding Owls:
Sherman Wilcox- 12 points, 4 thefts, 11 dimes.
Antwan Duncan- 11 points, 9 boards, 3 swats.
Jason Padgett- 12 points, 11 carroms, 1 rejection into the cheap seats.
The resurging Owls now extend their overall record to (20-9), and will now pack their bags for Macon, GA and a date with A-Sun foe Mercer University

Coach Carpenter: "So far, we have won 20 games this season...I believe that's the first time in over 15 years since that has happened."

Coach Carpenter: " We have a great shot a securing a #2 seed in the upcoming A-Sun conference tournament in Nashville later this month.
(More clapping and whistling breaks out).
Reporter #1: "Hey Coach, rumor has it that you're currently thinking about accepting another coaching job, from two seperate schools....is that true?."
(A silent hush overtakes the room)
Coach Carpenter: "You are absolutely right........those are rumors".
(Loud laughter pierces the entire building)
Reporter#2: "So coach...you're denying those accusations then, right?"
(All eyes fall upon the Owls Coach)
Coach Carpenter: "Gentlemen...I will not deny that other schools have contacted me. But, that's the nature of this business. Anytime someone has some success at where he's at.....curiousity will cause people to seek what they don't have".
Reporter#3: " So taken that in consideration, what are your future plans...as far as coaching goes?"
Coach Carpenter: "Guys...I've been brought here to turn this program around, and to take it to the next level. While it's true that we've enjoyed some current success....we still have alot of things to accomplish here at FAU. And I don't feel as if I've completed my mission here.....until we're all dancin' come March!!!!!!!"
(The crowd erupts, and gives the coach a standing ovation of cheers)
And the chorus of chants.....FAU...FAU...FAU....procedes to overtake the entire building.
"Well folks, you heard it straight from Coach Carpenter.... he still has unfinished business here in Boca Raton. But, one can't help but wonder what the Ides of March will bring for this school, and their basketball future......this is Jerry Lane for Sports2, see you at 10:00 tonight".

Owls Bag the Bears, 68-54.
(AP) Macon, GA
Macon Coliseum
The FAU Owls needed their stars to shine Tuesday night in Georgia, as they invaded the Macon Colisuem with an A-Sun conference victory on their minds. Despite the monumental effort displayed by the host Mercer Bears....the Owls would up their conference mark to (15-3) with a tenacious 68-54 triumph.
The recent victory would insure the Owls of no worse than a #2 seed in the upcoming Atlantic Sun conference tourney, which begins next week.
"We did what we needed to do tonight....I'm trying to keep these kids focused on one game at a time. At this juncture of the season, we need each and every win we can muster", conceded Coach Carpenter.
The Owls backcourt duo of Donell Boozer and Benjamin Jenkins, would propel them to victory tonight. Boozer once again reached double digits, with a 21 point performance. And Jenkins complimented that with an 18 point outburst. The inside game for FAU would also be heard from as well, with reserve (FR-SF) Joey Owensworth chipping in 10 points, and ripping down 8 boards as well.
The scoreboard would see both teams tied at 31-31 at intermission.
2nd half performances have been the norm for the Owls this season, and once again they saved the best for the second stanza. (SR-PG) Sherman Wilcox would come alive, and join the scoring-train with 3 treys of his own
and continue to be a thorn in the Bears paw all night...as he stripped the ball several times, to boast 7 steals for the night.
With both teams trading the lead back and forth for the majority of the first 6:30 of the 2nd half, it was time for a savior to step forward and lead them to victory. Hail to Boozer.....for once again the senior-stallion would knock-down multiple treys, to distance the Owls from the Bears.
With less than 1:10 remaining in the contest, and FAU in front at 62-50...Coach Carpenter would substitute (JR-SG) Lamar Neal in for a winded Boozer. And in a show of great sportsmanship....the Macon Coliseum crowd gave Boozer a standing ovation!!!!
"I thought it was a very classy move from the Bears fans to give Donell that moment of tribute....very classy indeed", said an emotional Coach Carpenter.
The remaining game-time provided few magical moments, as the Owls would milk the game clock, and secure another A-Sun victory at 68-54.
That win would increase their overall record to (21-9).

Owls Fend-Off NC College Panthers 67-59, in Season finale.
(AP) Boca Raton, FL
The Nest
Senior Night would signify the last home game for the 2004-05 Owls Basketball team. And The Nest was packed to the rafters, in tribute to their beloved team. The Sunday night crowd was estimated to be the largest to ever attend a FAU basketball game.....and electricity was in the air.
The Owls were saying goodbye to seniors: Sherman Wilcox, Christopher Wells, Benjamin Jenkins, the injured-Jamaar Mobley, and of course the King Owl.....Donell Boozer.
The pregame ceremony was an emotional affair, as the 6 seniors were introduced one last time, and spotlighted with their parents at their side.
The Owl faithful would serenade the players & parents with the school alma-mater.....and finally a team basketball, complete with all players and coaches autographs adorning it.
Once the game started, it was a fast-paced, uptempo style of play for both squads. The visiting NC College Panthers would string together two back-to-back treys, to take a quick 6-0 advantage. But, the Owls would answer quickly, and decisively with a flurry of trifectas from Boozer and Jenkins, to leapfrog into the lead at 12-8....with 3:25 into the first half.
The Owls young guns in (FR-SF) Antwan Duncan, and (SO-C) Jason Padgett would want to leave an indelible impression on their departing teammates, as the pounded the paint for 3 buckets each.
But, the Panthers would not be awed by the celebration, nor the offensive fireworks....as they continued to respond from the perimeter. Each team threw huge haymakers...but they resulted in only glancing blows to their opponents, as the first half would wind down with FAU leading 32-25.
"We played with alot of emotion, and toughness tonight. I'm very proud of our kids....to finish out the great careers of these awesome seniors" stated a teary-eyed Coach Carpenter.
The 2nd half proved to be as wide-open as the first, with each team throwing caution to the wind....as they launched long-range bombs, and crashed the boards relentlessly. With under 4:00 remaining in the contest, it was apparent that this one might go down to the wire.
But suddenly, Jason Padgett took matters into his own hands with a 360-slam dunk, that brought the house down. That was then followed by Antwan Duncan's steal....and coast-to-coast, hammer-jam that sent all Owls fans into a stupor of frenetic proportions. And from that point the celebration was on. Boozer threaded 3 more treys, and the crowd started to chant...All-American.
Then with little over :55 remaining in the game and the Owls on top by a score of 64-54...it was mardi gras in Boca Raton. As the Owls seniors would be subbed from the court one at a time....much to the delight of the rowdy patrons. Boozer would be the last to exit to the bench...and the noise surely could have been heard state-wide, he hugged all the players individually....and finally he embraced Coach Carp...as the school band played their rendition of the rock-band Queen's "We Are the Champions".
Yes folks....it's a good time to be an Owls fan.
The final buzzer sounded almost unnoticed...as the mass of students, teachers, parents, and fans rejoiced around their beloved Owls players, to the tune of a 67-59 homecourt season-ending win.
POTG: Donell Boozer-18 points (6 of 14 from 3-land), 5 boards, 1 block.
Outstanding Owls:
The entire Owls senior team members.
The Owls will now sport a #2 seed, plus a (17-3 conference) and (23-9 overall) records into their first round A-Sun tournament game against the #7 seed Georgia State Panthers (9-16). The game will be played at Striplin Gym in Nashville, TN on Wednesday at 7pm.

Hey Congrats on a glorious senior night and regular season. You played 20 conference games thats got to be unheard of, I thought most conferences played 14-16 games. At 23-9 and being from the A-sun you probably won't get any love from the committee as an at large if u dont win the A-sun tourny, but u do have some quality wins. Well good luck in the tourny, nothing like March Madness (Not the EA Sports game)

Thanx for the congrats......I'm sure you're right about not getting any love from the selection committee (that is if we even get to that point), I figured if we do win our conference tourney, and get an automatic invite...
then we will probably get a #14 or #15 seed.....and you know what that means.....a brutal first round opponent.
And to answer your comment regarding our 20-game conference schedule, yeah....that's a ton of conference games (too many for me).
But, then again maybe our 23-9 regular season record might help us in regards to climbing over the bubble....if we have to that is.
Thanx again for your comments...and congrats to your Pilots on shakin' up the West Coast....and the Big Dance bracket as well.
later...and good luck,

Owls Pounce-on Panthers 73-58, in 1st Round A-Sun tourney.
(AP) Nashville, TN
Striplin Gym
With their high-octane offense hitting on all cylinders, the #2 seeded FAU Owls would cruise to a 73-58 victory over the #7 seeded Georgia State Panthers, in the opening round of the A-Sun tournament.
Fueled by four players scoring in double-digits, the Owls would enter the conference tourney with fire in their eyes. Jumping out to a quick 12-5 lead, the Owls could then rely on their tight 2-3 zone defense, and great ball management by their offense to out-muscle the Panthers.
" Our guys really came to play tonight, and that concerned me...since we had already beaten Georgia State twice this season. But, we really pulled together...it was a great team win", commented Coach Carpenter.
The Owls were paced by (F-SF) Antwan Duncan with 8 points, and 6 boards in the first half.....as the scoreboard would reveal FAU leading 33-28 at the intermission.
The Panthers would make a run at FAU mid-way through the 2nd half, as the Owls starting five would be sidelined with fatigue. On five consecutive trips down the court the Panthers would score, and on three of those trips...the scores would be from 3-point land. At the 5:30 mark, Coach Carp would re-enter his starting five, and hope they could regain some momentum.
He wouldn't have to wait long. As the backcourt would come alive with a string of treys to retake the lead for good at 49-47. Donell Boozer and Benjamin Jenkins smoked the nets for 4 each from outside the arc. And then the inside game would show their dominance for FAU, as Duncan and Jason Padgett would run wild in the paint. Padgett tallied 15 points, and wiped the glass for 12 carroms. Duncan added 8 more points, and also on paint-patrol was Joey Owensworth, who added 10 points and 7 boards to the cause.
The combined effort was too much for Georgia State to handle, as their composure would falter...resulting in several costly turnovers. After that, the FAU lead would balloon to 22 points with less than 2:40 remaining in the contest. The backup players would see the remaining game time, and would keep the winning margin in double-digits, as the final buzzer blared and the Owls would send the Panthers packing for home with a 73-58 win.
POTG: Donell Boozer- 18 points, (6 of 11 from the arc), 6 boards.
Outstanding Owls:
Antwan Duncan- 16 points, 10 boards, 2 rejects.
Jason Padgett- 15 points, 10 boards
The Owls (24-9) will now face the #3 seeded Jacksonville Dolphins(18-11),

Owls Dip the Dolphins 65-62, to advance to A-Sun finals.
(AP) Nashville, TN
Striplin Gym
The Owls survived a major scare, to claim a spot in Saturday's A-Sun championship game against defending champ, Stetson Hatters (22-4).
The semi-final contest was in doubt the entire game between FAU and Jacksonville, as both squads left it all on the floor in Thursday nights 65-62 come-from-behind Owls victory. The game saw 3 players from each team find their way to the bench, via the 5-foul route. A total of 58 personals were whistled for the game, with a couple of near-technical fouls, to spark the rough-style of play.
"I think the amount of emotion, and the rivalry between our two schools just added fuel to the fire tonight. In my opinion, I thought the refs did a fair job of keeping everything under control", stated a tired Carpenter.
The two teams battered each other from the very tipoff, and the pace of the game would border on being out-of-control, for the entire first half.
It seemed as if neither school could put the ball in the hoop, and the score would more-like resemble a football game.....with FAU on top by a 10-7 score with over 5:30 into the game.
Free throws ruled the game for the most part, and the #3 seeded Dolphins would drain 13 of 15, to take a 20-19 lead with about 2:15 remaining before intermission. Luckily the Owls backcourt warmed-up enough to net a basket by Jason Padgett in the paint, and a long missle from Donell Boozer, to close the deficit to 30-24 at the break.
Second half performances would hold the key fof FAU once again. And aided by Boozer from the arc (4 of 7) in the 2nd half...the Owls would flex their offensive muscle and surge ahead of the J'Ville squad. (SO-C) Jason Padgett showed maturity of an upperclassman, as he snared a total of 17 boards (10 of those in the 2nd half), as the tide of momentum would lean in favor of FAU.
With less than 1:00 on the game clock....and the Owls trailing 60-59, it would take a primetime player to step into the spotlight. And this time it would be the 6'5" (SR-SG) Benjamin Jenkins who would hold the Owls future in his hot hands.
The soft-spoke Jenkins would do his best imitation of Paul Neuman in Cool-hand Luke, as he took the rock and went down the court, stopped at the arc.....and popped a trey from 25 feet out. Owls in front at 62-60. But, the Dolphins would not waiver...as (JR-SG) Kerry Glover would penetrate the paint and hit a runner to tie the game at 62-62, with :17 remaining.
Coach Carpenter would call a timeout, to format a plan of attack. On the inbounds pass, it was stolen by a J'Ville defender.....and dribbled downcourt, The Owls scurried after the ball, with Jenkins at his heels. In a botched pass inside the paint by J'Ville...the Owls would regain possession....8...7....6...Jenkins passed the ball to Boozer...5...4...3...back to Jenkins...2..1.....he launches it.......oh......my GOODNESS.....the buzzer sounds...as the Owls are mobbed at courtside by their fans to celebrate their first shot at the conference tourney title game in 18 years....with a pulsating 65-62 victory over the J'Ville Dolphins.
POTG: Benjamin Jenkins-24 points, 6 boards, 1 theft.
Outstanding Owls:
Donell Boozer-16 points, 7 boards.
Jason Padgett- 8 points, 17 boards, 3 rejects.
Now the (25-9) Owls will put in all on the line Saturday night here in Nashville, as the meet the #1 seeded Stetson Hatters (22-4) for the A-Sun conference tournament championship. Tip time is 8pm.

Owls Capture A-Sun Crown, with a 59-49 victory over Stetson.
(AP) Nashville, TN
Striplin Gym
The FAU Owls danced themselves right into the NCAA Tournament, with a stirring 59-49 triumph over the Stetson Hatters on Saturday night.
With the win, the (26-9) Owls will now await their fate from the selection committee's televised tournament pairings tomorrow afternoon.
Armed with the heart of a lion, the never-say-die Owls would fight from the opening tipoff, against the #1 seeded Hatters. The two teams showed a tremendous amount of energy, and determination throughout the contest.
Stetson struck early in the game, by jumping out to a quick 12-5 lead.
But, equally determined was the FAU backcourt of Benjamin Jenkins, and the gifted-one....Donell Boozer.
The two snipers would tickle the twines for a total of 5 treys in the first half, and give the Owls a slight 26-22 advantage at the intermission.
Stetson's interior strength would be heard from, as their mountain-man, Gregg Daniels would emerge as the go-to man in the second half. Daniels pounded the paint relentlessly, by jamming home a total of three two-handed monster-dunks......and also responding with some impressive glass-cleaning skills as well. His efforts would lift the Hatters into a 39-35 advantage with under 4:05 in the contest.
But, this night belonged to the Owls....and they releashed their weapons upon the Hatters "D". The purest-shooter in the conference (Boozer) would zone-in on the bucket, and swish a whopping 5 treys in a span of 1:10.....to bring the Owl-faithful to their feet, as the lead would swing back to FAU at 53-46, with less than 2:10 remaining.
With their season on the line, the Hatters would work the ball down low to Daniels again...he pivoted, charged the basket...and crammed a rim-rockin' dunk, which resulted in (SO-C) Jason Padgett to tumble to the floor in a crumpled heap. No charge....in fact a foul on Padgett!!!!!!!!
Daniels sank the freebie, and the lead was cut to 53-49 with 1:15 left.
The Owls would put the ball in Boozer's capable hands...and he would not dissapoint. Boozer weaved his way through traffic, and netted a trifecta to cause a wave of emotion to erupt from the FAU crowd.
The Hatters were now facing reality....their season was coming to an end. With time ticking down, the Hatters tried a desperation three....that clanked-off the iron. (SR-PG) Sherman Wilcox scooped-up the carrom and scooted downcourt....to nail another trey, that sent the Striplin Gym into a mass hysteria. The Owls had delivered a A-Sun conference crown to their fans, and it was now time to....DANCE!!!!!!
Final Score: FAU 59, Stetson 49.
POTG: Gregg Daniels (Stetson)-18 points, 23 boards.
Outstanding Owls:
Donell Boozer- 26 points (8 of 19 from the arc), 4 boards, 2 pilfers(steals).
Benjamin Jenkins- 17 points, 3 boards, 1 steal.
Jason Padgett- 11 points, 5 boards, 2 rejections.
(Owls Game fact): 6'11" (SO-C) Jason Padgett will be lost for the remainder of this season, due to a torn calf muscle on his left leg.
(A-Sun Tourney tidbit): Donell Boozer (FAU) was awarded the MVP for the A-Sun tournament. Boozer, the 6'6" senior averaged over 21.3 points per game, to lead the Owls to the conference title.
The Owls finished the regular season, and conference tournament with a sparkling (26-9) overall record. They now await their first round opponent in the NCAA Tournament. This is the first time in over 17 seasons that FAU has advanced to the prestegious "Big Dance" tourney.

Owls Roast the Razorbacks in East Regional Upset, 80-53.
(AP) Amherst, MA
Mullins Center
The glass slipper still fits!!!!.....the improbable happened, as the #14 seed
FAU Owls lambasted the highly-touted #3 seed Arkansas Razorbacks, to the tune of a 80-53 hog roast.
No one would have ever thought that the tiny school from Boca Raton could even test the mighty 'Hogs.....let alone knock them outta the Big Dance. But, when reality finally set-in.....the Owls would be the darling of the East Regional in Amherst, MA.
"I'm so happy for our kids, and our fans.....this is an unbelieveable win for all of us at Florida Atlantic University. We were privileged to have the opportunity to play a great basketball program like Arkansas", shouted an ecstatic Coach Carpenter.
The monumental victory would send shockwaves throughout the entire tournament, as the score was announced in every gym and arena that hosted a first round regional game. The dumbfounded look upon the Razorback players faces after the game, would personify the way the night would unfold.
From the very start of the game, the Owls would outrun, out-shoot, and out-hustle the 'Hogs all over the court. The intermission would reveal a mind-boggling score of 40-33, in favor of FAU.
Lead by the first half combo-shooting of Sherman Wilcox and Paris Witherspoon, the pair would combine for 7 treys, and 5 steals to pace FAU into a lead that they would never relenquish.
The 'Hogs would rely on their Rolls-Royce (JR-PG) Jameel Elliott, who swished 4 treys of his own, and went coast-to-coast to slam a two-handed rim-rocker right before the half.
As the second half unfolded, the Owls would not waiver in their hard-nosed man-to-man defense, that forced the "Hogs to commit a total of 23 turnovers on the night. Coupled with the strong inside play of Joey Owensworth(PF), and Jeffrey Nielsen (C)...the FAU offense would frustrate the Arkansas defensive efforts, by running a controlled high post-set.
"We played extremely well as a team tonight, I thought our offense showed a great deal of patience...and that really bothered Arkansas", replied Carpenter.
Paced by a balanced scoring barrage, the Owls would continue to score on virtually every possession. The continual offensive-output would derail any hopes of the 'Hog Express to get on track. With under 5:00 remaining in the game, and the Owls holding onto a commanding 65-39 lead, it would be time for the FAU reserves to taste the sweetness of the NCAA tournament...as Carpenter emptied his bench to mop up the win.
The Owls balanced attack looked like this: Benjamin Jenkins (18 pts), Donell Boozer (12 pts.), Sherman Wilcox (14 pts.), Paris Witherspoon (11 pts.), Joey Owensworth (10 pts.)....and this avalanche of rock-throwers would bury the unsuspecting 'Hogs, and send them back to Fayetteville as a carry-out order.
The final horn ended what all in attendance already knew, and that was a gigantic upset win for the Owls at 80-53.
POTG: Benjamin Jenkins- 18 points, 5 boards, 3 thefts.
Outstanding Owls:
Sherman Wilcox- 12 points, 4 steals, 8 dimes.
Donell Boozer- 12 points, 6 boards, 4 dimes.
Paris Witherspoon- 11 points, 2 boards, 3 steals, 6 dimes.
The (27-9) Owls journey through the NCAA tourney will now continue this Thursday night at the Mullins Center in a second round matchup, when they face the #6 seeded LSU Bengal Tigers (23-6) of the SEC conference at 7pm.

Owls' storybook season ends with 65-60 Loss to LSU.
(AP) Amherst, MA
Mullins Center
The clock struck midnight on the Owls cinderella-season, as the LSU Bengal Tigers managed to claw-out a hard fought 65-60 win in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday night.
The loss will end the remarkable season for the Owls, and the legion of faithful followers. It was estimated that over 6,000 Owls fans made the trip to Thursday night's game in Amherst, MA. But despite the loyal mass of hopeful fans.....the Tigers of LSU would prove to be too much for the Owls to handle.
"It's always dissapointing to lose a big game...but we're still proud of the fact that we came a long way this season...and we certainly accomplished the goals that we set at the start of this year", said Coach Carpenter.
The #6 seeded Tigers were very physical in the paint, as their two big men (Andre Ramsey-6"10" PF) and (Julius Watkins-6'11" C) were just too powerful for the FAU interior defense. The two Tiger-tanks would combine for a huge 48 points, and 32 rebounds in the contest.
"Their big 'uns were amazing tonight....they have such speed and power in the paint, that I'd be surprised if they don't continue to make some noise n the tournament before it's all over with", commented Carpenter.
The score at intermissin would see the Tigers in front, 33-28.
Second half performances have been the battle-cry for the Owls this season, but tonight...the cries would be stifeled by the power game of the LSU Tigers. Each time the Owls would start to make a move, the Tigers defense would come up big...by blocking a shot, or stealing the ball away.
The Owls would commit a total of 18 turnovers in the game.
But despite the sloppy ballhandeling by FAU, the shooting game was still sharp...as the perimeter posse of Donell Boozer (24 points) and Benjamin Jenkins (19 points), would rally the Owls fans and keep their slim hopes alive, deep into the second half of the game.
With LSU leading by a score of 58-55 at the 3:05 mark of the second half, the Owls wuld gasp one last breath in attempt to steal away the victory.
Boozer would can a trey, and Jenkins intercepted a pass and went coast-to-coast to slam the rubber sphere through the hoop. Suddenly, the game would be knotted at 60-60 with under 2:00 left.
But, when your team possess a tremendous 1-2 punch like (Ramsey & Watkins) it would be apparent to everyone, that the pair would take matters into their own hands. Ramsey slammed home a bucket, followed by a sickening two-handed spinning slam by Watkins who was also fouled on the play, and naturally nailed the freebie.
The maintenance crew at the Mulllins Center evidently nailed lids on the Owls basket, as the FAU squad went frigid from the field...and couldn't manage another point. The buzzer pierced the hearts of all 6,000 Owls fans as it signified the end of their journey. The final score, 65-60.
POTG: Julius Watkins(LSU)- 31 points, 19 boards, 4 blocks.
This game would also bring a close to the careers of seniors: Benjamin Jenkins, Sherman Wilcox, Jaamar Mobley, Christopher Wells, and Donell Boozer.
The Owls would finish at (27-10), and will boast the first A-Sun Conference crown in 17 years for the school. In addition to the most wins (27) in school history. And the first-ever NCAA Tournament victory for the school.
(Season Note): Donell Boozer was voted as A-Sun Player of the Year, in addition to being voted to the A-Sun All Conference 1st team.
As the curtain comes down on the Owls season, all eyes will be on the upcoming year-end Owls banquet-awards dinner, a week from this Saturday at the Owls Landing Restaurant at 7pm.

Owls Celebrate Season of Dreams at Awards Banquet.
(Campus Chronicle)
Boca Raton, FL

(Coach Carpenter approaches the podium on the stage).
"First of all....I'd like to thank everyone for attending tonight's awards banquet honoring this year's Owls basketball team and accomplishments.
This is my first season here....and I'm very proud of each and every one of these kids", says Carpenter.
(A nice ovation resounds throughout the building).
"Our program advanced great strides this season. And the goals that we set for ourselves at the beginning of the year...we accomplished.
Now...I must release some of these fine, young men into the world....so they can reach for new goals, and expand to new horizons. At this time I would like to call to the stage, the following senior Owls.
Sherman Wilcox......Jaamar "Hop-a-long" Mobley (a snickering of laughter echos throughout the crowd....as Mobley approaches on crutches)........
Benjamin Jenkins.....Christopher Wells...and Donell Boozer.
(A huge ovation is heard from the crowded building).
"These guys are very special to me.....as are the remaining underclassmen
on this team. They believed in me, even when they had no reason to.
And they brought a tremendous amount of pride and emotion to the gym every day....and every night. These guys will always be remembered here at FAU......(The crowd gives the players a standing ovation...as each of the seniors embrace Coach Carpenter onstage).
Donell Boozer approaches the microphone, and speaks into it....
"Coach Carp...has always taught us to give our best effort, even if no one else believes in you.....because he always believed in us...no matter what.
I'm sad to leave this school....and these great fans.....but, you folks will still have a great team next year.....and a great coach to lead them".
(A loud chourus of clapping emits from the crowd).
(Coach Carpenter has a perplexed look on his face at that moment as he strides towards the microphone,...and speaks into it ).
"Folks....sometimes decisions can be the hardest thing to come to grip with.
And sometimes the result of those decisions, can be very difficult to understand. My intention, when I game to FAU was to get positive results from the program. And I feel that we certainly accomplished that this past season.....uhh...what I'm about to say is one of the hardest things that I've ever been faced with.....and it's very hard for me to say.......I will not be back here next season, to coach the Owls......I'm sorry, but....I'm gonna miss each and every one of you here.....I wish this team the best success next season...and for many years to come.
" I have discussed this with the officials at FAU, and also with my staff.
And at this time I would like to introduce your new head coach, my former assistant coach, Charles Hairston".
(A delayed silence.....evolves into light clapping...then slightly louder).
Carpenter continues, " Thank you Boca Raton,... the university,.... and naturally my...uhhh..(your players Coach Hairston) for allowing me to be a part of their lives, and their basketball careers....best of luck to you all".
(Carpenter waves at the crowd, and starts to exit off the stage)
(A voice is heard from the crowd hollaring.....)"Hey Coach, where are 'ya

Carpenter doesn't stop.....and then he was gone off stage, and out of the building).

"Hey ya'll, Stuart Scott here to bring you up to speed with the latest development from the college basketball ranks. It has been rumored that the former head coach for the FAU Owls, Kyle Carpenter....has been the main man of interest at some D-1 schools this week".
And word just received out of Raleigh, NC reports that the North Carolina State Wolfpack have just come to terms with Carpenter, on a 3-year deal.
The "Pack finished in 6th place in the ACC last season, and amid growing concerns over academic, and possible recruiting violations.....it appears that NC State officials have made a dramatic move at this time".
"Carpenter will bring with him a brief resume from FAU,(only one season, to be exact).....but that brief stint provided a huge turn-around for the Atlantic Sun Conference champions, who also recorded a (27-10) record, coupled with a monstrous first-round upset shellacking of Arkansas in the NCAA Tournament this past March".

Hey y'all....it's been a wild, and wacky week for Coach Carp....as he now finds himself headed for the mountain-tops of Carolina, and the city of Raleigh.
To answer your question, squidpants......No, I didn't apply for the NC State job actually. It was really weird that I got it......Now I did apply at four other schools (New Mexico, Seton Hall, West Virginia, and Boston College).
And other than New Mexico, the other three showed little or no interest.
In fact, I had Vanderbilt out of the SEC conference actually show probably
the most interest of them all.....and I didn't apply to them either.
It definitly taught me a lesson, in not putting all your job applications in too early in the season. I firmly believe next time around, that I'll stick a couple of them back for later on.
But in summary....I'm pretty jazzed about goin to the ACC.
Thanx guys for reading, and your comments are always welcome.

ACC - Very nice, from the hoop hinterlands at FAU to mecca of college hoops in the North Carolina -- I'm digging it with a big shovel
I suppose C-A-R-P in Cincinnati will have to wait............
Hey K Bomber,
I still agree with ya' that C-A-R-P in Cincinnati would have been the best.
I would have went to the Bearcats if they'd had made me an offer.
I really like their program...and their uni's are pretty cool too.
Oh well....maybe next time?
(P.S.)...Coach Carp is a big Andy Griffith fan (he watches all the reruns every evening after practice), I think he hopes that while he's in Raleigh,
maybe he can trek-down to Mayberry...and pick his guitar on the porch with Andy and Barney

Good luck bro......I can tell ya that FAU is pretty decent around the perimeter (as far as shootin' the rock), but they are shaky in the paint.
They don't have great defenders or scorers for that matter.
Probably their best interior player is Jaamar Mobley (6'9")if I remember right?....he's fairly decent.
And they have a couple of very nice shooting guards....Boozer is the one to watch out for (6'6") SG...he's got a nice stroke too.
I'm sure you'll do well against them....just thought I'd give ya some inside info.
P.S...Where do ya play them at?
I'm gonna try to schedule them in my next season with NC State, if things work out right.

(News Wire)
Rumors are swirling from the campus of North Carolina State. Where it is being reported that newly hired mens head basketball coach, Kyle Carpenter has suddenly rebuked his new coaching position.
This news comes amid the ongoing investigation by the NCAA regarding past recruiting violations, and academic misrepresentations.
It appears that Carpenter called NC State A.D, Lee Fowler and voiced his concerns just two days ago. That phone conversation resulted in school officials and Carpenter both agreeing that he would be released of his position.
Carpenter's future and whereabouts are unclear at this time. There have been unconfirmed reports from a news agency on the West Coast, that supposedly Carpenter has interviewed with at least one university for the position of head basketball coach. Attempts to reach Carpenter have been unsuccessful at press time.
Regardless, one thing is indeed for sure. Carpenter will not be running with the 'Pack...(Wolpack that is).

(AP Wire) Fullerton, CA
Official word has just been received by school officials at the University of Cal State Fullerton. After 3 days of intense phone conversations, it is apparent that Kyle Carpenter has agreed to a 3-year contract as the Head Coach of the Titans mens basketball team.
Carpenter just recently caused a major controversy at North Carolina State University, when he scoffed at the Wolfpack program. This prompted NC State A.D., Lee Fowler to act promptly, with a mutual release of Carpenter's coaching contract.
By accepting the Titans offer, Carpenter will now be thrust into a tumultous program, that posted an anemic 4-25 record. Now the task is at hand to rebuild the Titans to respectability in the wild, wild Big West Conference. Not an easy thing to do, considering that CS-Fullerton was dead last in scoring, and rebounding the last 3 seasons.
The West Coast based school will present a monumental challenge for the newly-hired coach, and his staff. But, Carpenter was instrumental in resurrecting a dormant program at Florida Atlantic last season. In fact, the FAU Owls blazed to a (27-10) overall record, and stunned the Arkansas Razorbacks in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Hey River,
No actually I only simmed 1 year...to get a feel for the conference, and the Titans themselves. I really didn't want to go to Cal State-Fullerton,
but after my NC State legacy froze on me....I wanted to pick a team that wouldn't take me 3-5 seasons to get another coaching offer.
But, who knows?.....It may still take me that long even with these guys.
They don't seem too good overall...but, I brought in some decent players,
especially 2 or 3 guys that I had recruited heavily from FAU. So maybe
that will help me out. I think I had 9 spots to fill on the Fullerton roster for this year.....so it will probably be an interesting season.
One kid that seems solid for Fullerton is (PG) Sammy Chen. He is a senior this year...so he may be a diamond-in-the-rough.
P.S.....I'll try to take it easy on your Highlanders...

Coach Carpenter assesses the New-look Titans.
(Fullerton, CA)
After last nights midnight "Titan Tipoff" inter-squad scrimmage,(won by the Blue squad, 74-63) the newly-hired CS-Fullerton head coach, Kyle Carpenter gave his thoughts on the upcoming season for his team.
"For those of you that actually witnessed our midnight madness scrimmage at Titan Gym last night, I hope our team gave you a glimmer of what we intend to accomplish this season", stated Carpenter.
" I was very impressed by the performances of several players, to start with our team captain (Sammy Chen-Sr./PG) ran the floor extremly well, and scored 24 points in 17 minutes of playing time. Not to mention the fact that his rendition of the Star Spangled Banner (prior to tipoff) was quite amazing in itself. And for those of you that aren't aware of this tidbit, Sammy was born and raised in Tupelo, MS (home of Elvis Presley) and Sammy does a great impersenation of The King", said Carpenter.
"Equally impressive was (Antawn Hutchinson-So./SG....16 points) who has great touch from the perimeter, to go along with the sniper-fire of Chen as well. And a very pleasant surprise was that of (Michael Horner-Fr./SF) who showed me that he can deal and shoot the rock very well. After the scrimmage I congratulated Horner in the locker room....he also showed me his great hand speed, and why he's majoring in law enforcement.....he promptly handcuffed me to the locker room bench," Carpenter chuckles.
"Our starting big guys, (Kasib Stone-So.-C...8 points/ 10 boards/2 blocks), and (Brian "Twister" Butler-Jr. C.....7 points/9 boards/2 blocks) were very sound in the paint tonight. And for those of you that want to know how Butler got his nickname.....he's from Kansas, and I know all too well about Twisters (or) Tornadoes, by growing up in that part of the country myself".
"We will rely not only on our starting five, but we will have many role players as well. We have four other very good shooting guards on our roster as well, (Dennis Calvert, Cory Skomsky, Ali Reynolds, and Scott Cole)and the best part is that they're either Freshmen or Sophmores."
"In addition to that, our depth in the paint will be pretty solid with (Roland Davidson and Joseph Hawkins), both of these guys have nice size, and possess good skills around the basket as well. "
"My staff and myself had the arduous task of having to redshirt the following three young men this season, (Brett Williams, Austin Sims, and Kasib Boyd) but we fully expect them to be a vital part of the rebuilding of this program next season. We felt like one year of added experience would greatly benefit them all".
Carpenter sums up the assessment by adding, "I hope that the fans will be very supportive of these fine young men this season. We'll see y'all at the Evansville game here Tuesday night".

"Some quick stats for you stat-cats out there.....two freshmen topped the scoring column for the Titans, as (PG) Dennis Calvert and (PF)Brandon Gooden both netted 14 points each. But, "The King" shined the brighest, as Sr.-PG Sammy Chen (We call him Blue Suede-for his allegience to Elvis), fired in the game-winning trey that was heard round the city of Fullerton...with no time showing on the clock....Whoooooo-baby....you gotta like that sports fans".
"Hold on my babies........we got the top-cat of the hour right here, right now......the new skipper of the Titans, Coach Kyle Carpenter......welcome to Titan Sports Talk, and welcome to Fullerton".
Carpenter waves to everyone: "Thanks, alot.....Kip, it's great to be here....and it's a nice win for our kids tonight".
Cali-man: "So coach, what do you see down the road for your team this year.....as far as wins and such?"
Carpenter: "I think we can be a strong contender for the Big West conference.....maybe not win it, but give Utah State and UC Irvine a good run for their money......and who knows, we might just decide to put on our blue-suede shoes and go dancin'....
(The students and fans start hollarin' and whistlin' for senior Sammy Chen to come to the mic).
Coach Carpenter motions for Chen to come forward, much to the crowds approval and applause.
Chen: "You guys are too much.....but you know that Coach Carpenter is telling us to just believe in each other, and that's what we're doin'....and tonight we made a believer outta Evansville".
(The sports bar erupts in a frenzy of shouting and cheering...and then chanting..we want UMASS...we want UMASS....)
Cali-man shouting at the top of his lungs into the mic: "You heard it right here on KTIT Sports Radio...the Titans want UMASS....and they're gonna get them this Saturday afternoon in Amherst, MA in a 1pm tipoff.....and you can hear all the action on your fave station...KTIT Radio....the station that sticks out....this is the Cali-man....hoop it up".

Titans Gun-down UMass 82-65, in Road victory.
Amherst, MA
Mullins Center
The young guns rode roughshod through the UMass defense enroute to an impressive 82-65 non-conference road win Saturday afternoon.
The blazin' backcourt tandem of Sammy Chen and Antawn Hutchinson scorched the nylon for a combined 44 points, and 3-guard, Dennis Calvert pumped in another 16 to pace the visiting Titans.
The home-standing Minutemen trailed the entire game, including a halftime deficit of 37-20....behind the torrid shooting of the Titans.
UMass relied on the services of Kalah Sargent (14 points, 6 boards) and their PG-David Cole (12 points, 8 dimes). But it proved to be too little, as the confident Cal State Titans would not relenquish their stranglehold of the lead.
The Titans shot a blistering 48% from the field, including an impressive 14 of 33 from behind the arc. Their rebounding efforts proved lethal as well, as they garnered a 35-24 advantage over UMass.
Chen was honored as Player of the Game (24 points, 4 boards, 2 thefts) for Cal State-Fullerton.
The Titans will now sport a (2-0) record, as they keep their bags packed for another road matchup with the (1-1) Air Force Falcons at Colorado Springs this coming Wednesday night, at 8pm MST.

Titans Soar past Air Force, 64-43
Chen explodes for 30 against Falcons.
Colorado Springs, CO
Clune Arena
Sammy Chen fired in a career-high 30 points in Wednesday nights non-conference tilt versus the Air Force Academy here in Colorado Springs.
Scoring from virtually every spot on the court, Chen would lead the visiting Titans to their third consecutive victory in as many tries.
The Falcons had no answers for the fleet-footed Titans backcourt, as Chen and Antawn Hutchinson would unleash an avalanche of long-range bombs to dismantle any hopes of a Falcon victory in this game.
At the intermission, the scoreboard would reveal the Titans in front at 34-22. Mainly due to the pinpoint accuracy from the perimeter from Chen, who blistered the nylon for 18 first half points.
The 2nd stanza fared little-better for the Falcons, as Hutchinson and Chen both launched multiple shots from downtown, to increase the Titans lead to 53-32....with over 5:30 left in the game. Also enjoying the thin air of Clune Arena, was (Fr-SG) Ali Reynolds, who pumped in 9 points of his own.
The remaining game-time was occupied by the reserves, who did a masterful job of holding the Falcons in check. But, this victory did not come without a heavy price to pay....as (Jr-C) Brian Butler and reserve (So-C) Kasib Stone both would fall prey to injuries.
Butler's would be the most serious of the two, as he suffered a broken nose from a vicious shot to the snoz in the 2nd half (He will miss 2 weeks).
And Stone would aggravate his left foot with a heel bruise(he's out for 5 days).
Player of the Game Honors: Sammy Chen-(30 pts./ 8 of 17 from 3-land).
TitanHoops.com Award: Antawn Hutchinson (11 pts, 2 thefts, 8 dimes).
The Falcons were paced by: (Sr-SG) Barry Ross' 13 pts. and 5 boards.
Our Titans (3-0) will now come home to Fullerton to face a Big 12 foe in Oklahoma State (0-1) tomorrow night at 7pm PST.

The Titans would streak to a 34-28 lead at the intermission. It was a lead that they would never relenquish for the entire contest. Showing a solid 2-3 zone defense, caused the visiting 'Pokes to fling ill-advised shots from the perimeter. Which resulted in a meager 32% shooting from the field.
Conversely speaking, the Titans were responding with a 42% FG clip of their own. And if not for the unbelieveable foul count against the Titans, (26) which resulted in the Cowboys netting 19 freebies...this game would have been out of reach early.
Player of the Game Honors went to : Brandon Gooden (see photo above).
TitanHoops.com Player : Sammy "Blue Suede" Chen.
Now the (4-0) Titans will travel to Pullman, WA this Saturday afternoon for a non-conference skirmish with the Washington State Cougars, of the Pac 10 Conference. Tip time is scheduled for 3pm PST.

Cougars Claw-out a 65-62 Win over the Cal-Fullerton Titans
(AP) Pullman, WA
Friel Court
The Washington State Cougars have finally arrived this season, with a hard-fought 65-62 victory over the previously unbeaten Cal State-Fullerton Titans at Friel Court Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars, now (1-2) have their high-flying star guard, Dante Moore to thank for their initial win of the season. Moore played a superb game overall in recording a 9 of 15 shooting performance from the field. In addition, he gobbled-up 7 boards, and swiped 3 balls on the night.
Coach Bennett of Washington State marveled at his players performance, by simply saying " Dante showed everyone tonight ..why he is considered to be the top player in the Pac-10......he scored from all over the court, and his foot-speed is tremendous".
The Cougars enjoyed a 34-29 halftime advantage, which spilled over into the second stanza.....and forced the visiting Titans to play catch-up for the entire game.
The Titans were paced by their all-everything (Sr. PG) Sammy Chen,
who drilled-in 24 points to top all scorers for the contest.
Dante Moore was awarded the POTG honors for his stellar performance in leading the Cougars to an impressive win.
With the first win under their belts, the (1-2) Cougars will next host the BYU Cougars next Monday night, in what promises to be a cat-fight.
The Cal State-Fullerton Titans fall to (4-1), and must try and regroup for a pivotal home court date with the (3-1) Georgia Bulldogs, on Tuesday night at Titan Gym. Tipoff is at 7pm PST.

We struggled BIGTIME against Washington State. Missed tons of close range baskets, and couldn't knock-down too many treys either. It was pretty frustrating overall.
And yeah I'm on the realism sliders...All-American setting.
That was a weird game period.....we never could get into a good flow at all, and it just seemed to get worse when a couple of my big boys got tagged with back-to-back fouls late in the contest.
I think I'm still a little numb over that loss. (I couldn't believe it either).

Presents: "Titan Sports Talk"
with Kip the Cali-man
"Hey welcome all you hoopsters, to the hipest sports talk show on the planet...its time for Titan Sports Talk, and I'm your admiral of the airwaves......Kip the Cali-man".
"We have in our presence the man himself, Coach Kyle Carpenter....the head coach of our beloved Titans. So Coach Carp, gimme your thoughts on where our smokin' young guns are at this point in the season?"
Carpenter: "Well....Kip, I think our kids have shown the ability to play with any team that we've faced so far.....it was obviously a big disappointment to lose that game in Pullman, WA last Saturday though".
Cali-man: " Yeah, coach......it seemed like we could never get our defense set, before that Moore-kid would knock 'em down from downtown. What was the confusion on our guys part?"
Carpenter: " Uh....I don't think there was any confusion at all. It just came down to gettin' an old fashioned tail thumpin...that's all. I mean Washington State beat us to every loose ball, and ultimately they did what they had to do to get the win....I'll take responsibility for not having the kids ready to play anytime, but I think we just got out-played period".
Cali-man: "OK...OK...so now we have Georgia comin' in to our house this Tuesday night. How do they stack-up to the teams that we've faced so far.....I mean these guys are from the tough SEC conference, does that pose a big problem for our "young guns"?
Carpenter: "We'll be ready to play, but we must play hard the entire game to have a chance to win. This will be a very tough test for our kids".
Cali-man: " All right hoopsters, that's all the time we have for now on Titan Sports Talk. We'll see you all at Titan Gym this Tuesday night, tipoff is at 7pm....but you better be there early...'cause we're expecting a sellout crowd. Beware of the Dawg
Georgia's Brandon Weaver ruled the court.
Bulldogs Bite the Titans, 68-61
(AP) Fullerton, CA
Titan Gym
The strength of the SEC showed tonight, as the Georgia Bulldogs snarled their way to a physical 68-61 victory here at Titan Gym.
The Dawgs unleashed their (Jr. PG) Brandon Weaver, and he responded for a game-high 25 points for the brash Bulldogs. Weaver also contained the Titans potent scoring guard, Sammy Chen....who managed to finally net 15 points for the night.
"Weaver is definitly a Top 10 guard in the country, from what I saw him do tonight....he might even be in the Top 3. Very seldom do you see a kid that is as explosive on the offensive side of the ball, and can also play great defense as well.....he's pretty special", remarked Coach Carpenter.
The Dawgs never let the Titans running game get on-track, as Weaver and crew constantly thwarted several attempted fast-breaks by Cal-Fullerton.
And the Georgia inside game was as solid as Weaver's jump shot. They limited the Titans to an anemic 31% shooting inside the arc. And the usual strong perimeter game for the Titans, would be held in check throughout the contest.
At the break, the Titans actually led by a slim 24-23 margin. But the 2nd half saw the visitors from Athens go into a "zone" from outside the arc, as Weaver would almost single-handily sink the Titans hopes of a victory.
Chen and (So-SG) Antawn Hutchinson would try valiantly to bring the Titans back in this game.....but the canines defense would stiffen, and rise to the occasion each time the Titans would attempt a comeback.
Hutchinson finished the night with 10 points, 2 steals, and 4 fouls...which caused him to watch the majority of the last 4:00 from the pines.
The Dawgs also received some great inside play from (Jr. PF) Ebi Hailey, the 6'10"-270 lb. man-child would wreak havoc in the paint all night. He finished with a huge 11 point, 13 boards, and 5 rejection performance.
Player of the Game honors befitted the Dawgs' Brandon Weaver, for his tremendous scoring barrage of 25 points on the night.
TitanHoops.com Player: Sammy Chen- 15 points, 1 theft, and 4 dimes.
After losing their last two games in a row, the (4-2) Titans will next pack their bags for a non-conference battle against the East Carolina Pirates who are currently sporting a (1-2) overall record.
The Friday night tipoff is slated for 7:30 pm EST at the Williams Arena on the East Carolina campus.

(AP) East Carolina

Powered by (Sr. PG) Sammy Chen, the Cal-Fullerton Titans dunked the Pirates 77-63, in the hostile Williams Arena on the East Carolina campus Friday night.
Chen shined brightly on both sides of the ball, as he torched the hometown 'Bucs for 27 points and pilfered 5 steals on defense. His solid performance drew high praise from Titans head coach, Kyle Carpenter.
"Sammy is a gutsy-kid, he can be as good as he wants to be....and tonight he was very, very good. I can't remember when I've seen a better all-around effort", beamed Carpenter.
As the halftime buzzer sounded, the Titans would escape the court with a slender 31-29 advantage.
The 2nd half would provide an extremely fast-paced game, as both teams raced up and down the court, virtually non-stop. The officials not only had a great cardiovascular workout, but they nearly wore-out their whistles, by dealing out a total of 31 fouls in the 2nd half alone.
Luckily for the Titans, the reserves would be up to the task....as they contributed valuable minutes to the cause. (So-C) Kasib Stone would would take advantage of the P.T., by knocking down 8 points, hauling-in 8 boards, and blocking 2 shots.
But the night belonged to Sammy Chen, as he continued to twink the twines from the perimeter....on his way to scoring honors for the contest.
He also thouroughly frustrated the 'Bucs backcourt, as he swiped a total of 5 balls in the game....in which resulted in 8 points for the Titans.
As the game ended, both teams looked exhausted from the hectic pace.
And the Titans knew they had been in a battle, as 3 of their players were disqualified due to personal fouls.
The Titans finished the night with 42% FG shooting, and also fared at 34% from behind the arc. PIP (Points in the Paint) was won by the 'Bucs, as they held a 38-28 advantage.
POTG Honors: Sammy Chen-27 points, 5 steals, 2 boards, 7 dimes.
TitanHoops.com Player: Kasib Stone-8 points, 8 boards, 2 blocks.
The East Carolina Pirates were paced by (Sr-SG) Clifton Nichols 26 points.
After raising their overall record to (5-2), the Titans will now travel to the mountains of Cedar City, Utah...to face the (0-4) Southern Utah T-Birds next Tuesday night at the Centrum. Tip time is at 7:30pm PST.

H.S. Star (PF)
Ron Farmer
Deland, FL
Our cameras caught preseason prep All-American canidate, Ron Farmer of Deland H.S. at the Titans recent home loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.
Farmer has been wooed by the likes of UCLA, Utah, Arizona, and NC State.
His natural athletic ability has many D1 schools drooling for his services next season. He plays the (PF) position at Deland H.S. for Coach Greg Dixon's Crusaders. But, is considered by most scouts as a (SF) when he makes the jump to the college ranks.
When asked about his intentions on which school to attend next year, he replied " I don't really know right yet, I'm checkin' out several places....and so far I like the West Coast the best".
So maybe that means that Farmer might be looking real hard at the Titans program for next season. He seemed to thouroughly enjoy himself at the game, and even found time to sign a few autographs for some of the Titans fans. His introduction at halftime brought a standing ovation from the capacity crowd at Titan Gym.
Below is his personal stats and information:
Ron Farmer (H.S.-Sr.)
Deland, FL
Ht. 6'8"
Wt. 190
Ranked: #51 in nation.
Biography:
This lefty post player has all kinds of tools. He's great at putting himself in the triple-threat position. And is very confident in pulling the trigger to knock-down the long range trey. But, he also has the speed and power to blow past his man by using the crossover, on his way to the hoop.
His ability to score in the paint is well documented, and his quickness to the ball is amazing. He could possibly be one of the best prospects to ever come out of the Sunshine State in a very long time.

Stone-Cold
Titans' Kasib Stone (#40)
dominated the paint
all night against the
Southern Utah T-Birds.
(AP) Cedar City, Utah
The Centrum
The Southern Utah T-Birds were no match for the physical-intimidation that was administered by the Cal-Fullerton Titans in Tuesday nights matchup at The Centrum.
In fact, the hometown T-Birds seemed in awe of the Titans from the tipoff, as the games first 11 points were netted by the road warriors of Fullerton, CA. By the time Southern Utah finally put their first points on the board, the once-rowdy crowd almost forgot to scatter their bags of confetti, to symbolize their teams first bucket.
But, the Titans would show no mercy, as they continued to pound the paint all night against the smaller T-Birds. Cal-Fullerton would hold an impressive 38-23 PIP (Points in the Paint) advantage for the game. In addition to snaring a 36-27 rebound edge also.
But, at the 8:25 mark of the first half, the Titans star senior guard, Sammy Chen would drive the lane and turn his right ankle, which would sideline him for the rest of the game. Luckily, x-rays were negative, and his return to the lineup is expected very soon.
A commanding 34-22 halftime lead was enjoyed by the Titans.
Throughout the 2nd half, the Titans repeatedly powered the ball into the painted region of the court, as the 6'10" (So-C) Kasib Stone would gladly
deposit the orange into the basket, on his way to an impressive 18 points, 13 carroms, and 4 rejected T-Bird shot attempts.
His monstrous performance earned him Player of the Game honors. But his efforts were not the only shining spots for the Titans, as fellow teammates (So-PG) Antawn Hutchinson with 19 points, as well as (Jr-C) Brian Butler's double-double of 10 points, 10 rebounds added to the overall dominant Titans game performance.
The T-Birds never closed the scoring gap any closer than 9 points, which happened at the 3:35 mark of the second half. That's when Coach Carpenter re-inserted the starting five, to finish out the contest.
The T-Birds were paced by Desmond Rogers' 20 points, 12 boards, and 2 blocks.
TitanHoops.com Player: Antawn Hutchinson- 19 points, 3 dimes.
Cal-Fullerton improved their overall record to (6-2) with this latest win.
Now the Titans will take a long break before they face their next opponent in the Fresno State Bulldogs (1-2), as the 'Dogs must enter the hostile confines of Titan Gymnasium on Thursday the 29th. Titan tip time is at 7:00 pm PST.

Bringin' the "A" game
The Titans unleashed (So-PG)
Antawn Hutchinson against
Fresno State Thursday night.
Titans Muzzle the Fresno State 'Dogs, 75-65
(AP) Fullerton, CA
Titan Gym
Taking on an in-state rival seems to always get teams amped-up, and Thursday nights game between the Fresno State Bulldogs and the hometown Titans would be a major grudge match.
From the opening tipoff, the two teams would be at each others throats the entire night. Partly due to the fact that the Titans chose to don their blue road uni's right before tip time. That infuriated the Bulldogs, and literally fueled the high-emotions of the overflowing crowd at Titan Gym.
The emotionally-charged game would see a total of 42 fouls whistled on both teams. And the visiting Bulldogs would see 3 starters find a place on the pines due to fouling out. But, then the Titans fared little better as 2 starters would exit early via the foul route. Both (Jr-C) Brian Butler, and (Fr-SF) Michael Horner would be spectators for the final 5:00 of the hotly contested game.
The Titans unleashed a full-court press from the game's outset, that totally seemed to catch the 'Dogs off-guard. Fresno State commited a whopping 25 turnovers for the contest, despite not letting the Titans run off and leave them in a cloud of dust. The 1st half ended with the Titans out front by a score of 43-33.
Play inside the paint was virtually non-existent all night, as both team's revved up their high-powered offenses, and burned down the court continously. The game resembled more of a tennis match, than a hoops game. Each bench substituted freely throughout the night.
The Titans dynamic-duo backcourt of Sammy Chen (21 points) and his running mate, Antawn Hutchinson (16 points) both shot lights out against the Fresno zone D. With 4:35 remaining in the contest, the Titans would see their pinpoint shooting prosper with a 65-52 advantage over the dog-tired Fresno State players.
Reserve players (Fr-PG) Dennis Calvert and 7'1" (Redshirt Fr.-C) Roland Davidson each chipped in with 12 points apiece. Davidson also flexed his muscle by ripping-down 9 boards to add to the cause.
The visiting Bulldogs relied on the long-ball supremacy of (So-Pg) Brandon Witherspoon, who tallied 24 points to garner high scorer for the game.
POTG Honors: Sammy Chen- 21 points, 4 boards, 3 steals, 4 dimes.
TitanHoops.com Player: Antawn Hutchinson-16 points, 4 steals, 6 dimes.
Now the high-flying Titans (7-2) will travel to the #7-ranked team in the land, the St. Joseph's Hawks (6-0) this next Tuesday. The tipoff will be seen on ESPN2 at 8pm EST.

#7 St. Joe's are Shocked by Titans, 62-60
Cal-Fullerton's Sammy Chen outshines the nations top backcourt duo
(AP) St. Josephs, PA
Sometimes, it's better to be lucky....than good.
Lucky or not, one things for sure....the 7th-ranked St. Joe Hawks had to swallow a bitter pill, with their first loss of the season to the unhearlded Cal-Fullerton Titans. And to add insult to injury, the Hawks faithful had to endure the pain of a homecourt defeat.
No one is doubting that St. Joe's holds claim to the highest-profile backcourt tandem in college basketball. But tonight belonged to the cat-quick gameplay of the Titans own wizard (Sr-PG) Sammy Chen, who drove a stake through the hearts of every Hawks fan throughout the nation.
Chen was simply marvelous, as he continually penetrated the paint past the marquee guards of St. Joe's. And when Chen wasn't driving and dishing the rock, he was knocking it down from behind the arc. When the beleaguered Hawks finally got a handle on him (via a double-team), the damage had already been done.
The two teams entered the locker room at the half, with the host Hawks clinging to a 31-28 lead. And that was primarily due to Nelson and West's brilliant 2:15 run to the lead while Chen was taking a blow on the bench.
The 2nd half provided so much tension that it hung over the court like a heavy London fog. Each team protected the rock like they would never touch it again. Incredibly, there were only 3 turnovers the entire second half by both teams combined. And the defense stiffened with each second that ticked-off the game clock.
With less than 3:00 remaining in the contest, the Titans found themselves trailing by 2, with the scoreboard showing: Hawks 58, Titans 56.
That's when the night turned magical for the Titans, as the Hawks brought the ball down the court, Chen swiped it and raced down the court and finished with a rim-rattling slam. The score was knotted-up at 58-58.
Two consecutive trips down the court by both teams would prove nothing, as the score stayed motionless. With less than :35 on the clock, the Hawk crowd erupted when Nelson drained an off-balanced jumper at the elbow, to give the mighty Hawks a 60-58 lead.
The Titans worked the ball around the perimeter, and tried unsuccessfully to penetrate the St. Joe 3-2 zone. The with the game clock down to :11 to go, it happened....and it is a moment that will be remembered by folks for a long time to come. Chen would appear to drive at the top of the key....but then, he dribbled back and took a long-range jumper that......
hit the bottom of the net....and he was fouled by West, with :07 showing.
Chen calmly nailed the freebie, to put the Titans up by the final margin of victory, 62-60. A long desperation shot at the buzzer by Nelson would clank off the iron....and the Hawks were shot down from the ranks of the unbeatens.
POTG: Sammy Chen- 29 points, 4 boards, 4 steals, 6 dimes.
TitanHoops.com Player: Kasib Stone- 12 points, 10 boards, 2 blocks.
The Hawks two prime-time guards combined for a total of 34 points, and 3 steals, 9 dimes.
The jubilant Titans (8-2) will now travel back home to face Big West foe the Cal State Northridge Matadors (2-6), next Tuesday night at Titan Gym.
A huge crowd is expected for the 7:00pm PST tipoff.

Quite Possibly the Best Kept Secret in College Basketball
(USA Today) Fullerton, CA
Secrets are hard to keep. And when you're the coaching staff of a relatively unknown program on the West Coast, you need to make some thunderous noise to attract any kind of national attention.
Well, look no further....because after the Titans gargantuan victory over the then 7th-ranked St. Joseph's Hawks on their home floor, and in front of a national TV audience....you can't whisper anymore.
Cal-Fullerton Titans head coach, Kyle Carpenter has risen from complete obscurity in the flatlands of SE Kansas high school basketball, to the threshold of possible greatness in the D1 College Basketball circles.
After posting an impressive (27-10) overall record with his previous team, the Florida Atlantic Owls of the Atlantic Sun Conference, just last season.
He then was wooed by North Carolina State to try and bring integrity back to that black-marked program, after allegations began swirling from the NCAA offices.
But, his destiny was not meant to be in the mountains of North Carolina. Instead he agreed to a mega-challenge with Cal-Fullerton school officials to come rebuild a hungry basketball program. And so far, he and his competent staff of Brent Works (hails from Hammond, IN) and other assistant coach/ scout Alvin Weaver (Springfield, OH) have their young guns playing at a high-intensity each game.

Titans Out-Duel the Matadors, 69-58
Sullivan fires in 31 points in a losing effort

Mr. Matador
Cal-State Northridge (Sr. PG)
David Sullivan drives in for 2 of his
game-high 31 points to pace the Matadors.
(AP) Fullerton, CA
The Cal-Fullerton Titans managed to hang on to win against Big West Conference foe Cal State Northridge, 69-58 at Titan Gym on Tuesday night. This was the opening game in conference play for both teams.
The visiting Matadors would see their all-conference senior guard, David Sullivan go on a scoring binge....as he was a one man wrecking crew with a total of 31 points in the game. To add to his heroics, the Matadors would also benefit form (Sr-PF) Owen Brewer's huge performance of 8 points, and an eye-popping 21 boards.
But the Titans, fresh off their incredible victory over St. Joe's, were not without some firepower of their own, as (So-SG) Antawn Hutchinson would blaze the nets for 21 points, and dish the rock 9 times.
The normally high scoring (Sr-PG) Sammy Chen was limited to 16 points, 3 boards, and 2 dimes for the night. And a new face to the scoring column for the Titans was (RS-Fr.) guard Ali Reynolds, who drilled-in 14 points.
The haltime score would favor the host Titans by 38-34.
Second half performances are crucial to every teams success, and the Matadors were fortunate to have Sullivan come out of the locker room and continue to hit his shots from the perimeter, and in the paint.
The Titans went to a Box-and-one defense, which seemed to eliminate some of his open looks. That was indeed necessary, as the score stayed close throughout the second stanza.
With under 3:00 to play the Titans found their rythym on offense, as they went on a 13-2 scoring spurt that gave them some breathing room for the remaining of the contest. Fittingly, Sullivan knocked down a long-range trey at the buzzer to end the game at 69-58.
POTG: David Sullivan (Matadors)-31 points, 4 boards, 3 steals, 4 dimes.
TitanHoop.com Player: Antawn Hutchinson-21 points, 2 steals, 9 dimes.
With this latest win, the Titans now push their overall record to (9-2), and conference mark at (1-0). Next game will see the Titans traveling to Logan, Utah...to face rival Utah State Aggies (5-2) in a 2pm PST Saturday afternoon clash.

#24 Aggies Stop the Titans, 68-66

Mr. Clutch
Utah State's Ricky Gates (#32)

turn-around jumper at the buzzer.
Gates nails the Game-winner in Dramatic Fashion
(AP) Logan, Utah
Ricky Gates' 15 foot turn-around jumper with :00 showing on the game clock was the shot heard 'round the Big West Conference.
Gates' heroics propelled the host #24th-ranked Utah State Aggies to a thrilling 68-66 come-from-behind conference victory over the stunned Cal-Fullerton Titans on Saturday afternoon.
"This is a very, tough loss for our program. We just didn't finish-off the game like we needed to", moaned Coach Carpenter.
The loss dropped the Titans to (9-3)overall, and (1-1)in conference play.
Utah State stays unblemished in Big West play at (4-0).
Both teams played with incredible tenacity throughout the contest, but it was a case of the visiting Titans not being able to put the ranked Aggies away when they had the chance.
At the intermission, the Titans stormed-out to a 34-28 advantage. And it appeared that the perimeter game for Cal-Fullerton was razor-sharp.
But, despite the pinpoint shooting accuracy from (Sr.) Sammy Chen, who scorched the nets for 23 points.....still the Aggies would not fade away.
All-American (Sr-C) Ricky Gates would pound the paint all day long, and his presence was felt by all Titans interior players. Not only did Gates throw down 24 points to garner high scorer of the game, but he also snatched 15 boards and rejected the orange 4 times.
With the Titans in front at 64-60, and only :40 remaining in the game, it would seem that another Titan upset was on the horizon. But, the Aggies proved their #24 ranking, as they fed the rock to Gates on successive trips down the court....and it proved to be huge each time.
Gates scored the next 8 points for the Aggies, including the unbelieveable game-winning turn-around "J" from 15 feet out to seal the deal.
POTG: Ricky Gates- 24 pts, 15 boards, 4 rejects, an the keys to Logan, UT
TitanHoop.com Player- Sammy Chen- 23 points, 2 swipes, 8 dimes.
Now the (9-3) Titans will next face the (6-2) Pacific Tigers at Titan Gym, this coming Monday night in another Big West matchup. Titan tip-time is 7:30pm PST.

Right on man....I and I am sure Prez also have done these sliders for everyone to have a good time playing this game. HONESTLY though what made me start really hitting the sliders hard was all the guys in here were so mature and this was not some flame board or anything of the such. So I became friends with most of the regulars such as my self and saw a way to bring us maybe a little closer to the game for all of us.
I have to give prez the most respect on this board though. He is like the lead man here. He has been a huge role. Also foosket has helped very much in one of the harder aspects of the sliders, the AI shot tend. This is one of the hardest parts to get right and foosket has given us the best we have had yet. They don't play completely like the real college ball players but i think that can't be fixed with the sliders. I feel fooosket has pulled through the best anyone can.

I think that the developers of the next release of this game should spend some serious time listening to the guys that have done the yeoman work in the area of gameplay sliders on this title, elprez98, HotShot and Foosketballin
This is similar to my beliefs on the NBA side where Blue Lightning and vicarlush did some really great work in the related vein of slider development

Coach Carpenter Shocks Titans, by resigning
Cal-Fullerton Head Coach says farewell to tearful players
http://espn.go.com/media/nhl/2003/0103/photo/granato_m.jpg
Coach Kyle Carpenter,
leaves the Titans amid
a "season of dreams".
(AP)Fullerton, CA
Titan Athletic Dept.
In an announcement that suddenly changed a season of dreams, into a nightmare of reality.....Coach Kyle Carpenter has promptly left the Titans basketball team.
Official word from the University of Cal State-Fullerton was that Carpenter called the meeting at approximately 8:50am PST this morning, and handed-down his resignation. And so, his dream of cutting down the nets as a Titan...would be relegated to just cutting his ties with the school.
His abrupt resignation has left a mixed feeling of sadness and outrage, throughout the campus and the community of Fullerton. His players were silent and tearful, when the announcement became official at shortly before 9:30am PST this morning.
Carpenter came to the Titans with the undaunting task of trying to repair a tattered program. And within a very short period of time, he and his staff would drag the Titans from the outhouse....to the penthouse in the Big West Conference. The Titans are currently sporting a glossy (9-3) overall mark, and stand at (1-1) in Big West play.
His greatest accomplishment while at Cal-Fullerton, would have to be the Titans recent jaw-dropping upset of the then 7th-ranked St. Joe Hawks, in their own house....and if front of millions of TV fans throughout the country. That victory would immediately thrust the Titans into the national spotlight, and earn them the right to be called, the nations new Cinderella-darlings of college basketball.
The primetime upset of St. Joe's would assure Carpenter his spot in Titans sports-lore....but then, nothing lasts forever.
His resignation will take effect immediately, and the Titans interim head coach will be former assistant coach/scout Alvin Weaver, who hails from Springfield, Ohio. Weaver came to Cal-Fullerton with Carpenter.
The Titans will unveil their new patch-work coaching staff this coming Monday night, as the entertain the red-hot Pacific Tigers in a 7pm tipoff at Titan Gym.
