View Full Version : The Yankees' Drew Henson Calls It Quits Today

Shortly after 1pm this afternoon, ESPN'S Dan Patrick announced that Drew Henson announced that he was quitting baseball and made it known that he will be the quarterback for the Houston Texans. Rob Dibble and Dan Patrick, both felt that with the chance of Aaron Boone missing the ENTIRE 2004 season, this could have been the time for him to put up or shut up. They wanted to see him go for it.

Well...as SOME of us on this board surmised yesterday, it would only be a matter of time for him to give it up and stick to football. So...the question...for serrrious baseball fans is:

Logically, who do you think the Yankess will have play full time third base? Do you think the person will open the season or come in after opening day?

KNOWLEDGEABLE baseball fans holla!

Sheffield will probably get some time there. Most likely I'm thinking Enrique Wilson will get alot of starts, less likely I'm thinking Alomonte gets some starts there.

Sheffield, Soriano, Giambi, and the defensively overrated Jeter in the same infield will be a sight to see. It's going to be a comedy of errors!

They want A's 3rd baseman Chavez, but Billie Beane the GM, said no way, however Chavez is under contract only throught this year, so more than likely another big player gone after this season, but I would say this is the one guy they might be able to resign, unless he has a monster year this year, which he probably will, funny how players have their best year in a contract year.

Rumor has it the yankees are looking @ adrian beltre of da dodgers. I like this kid. Still Young, solid defense, & can put up some #'s when healthy. I would pull this deal off in a minute. Hopefully the dodgers aren't asking for an outragous package...

Yeah the Dodgers just signed this guy to a two year deal I believe, I know they signed him up for a little while, can't remember the exact numbers or years, but I do remember the deal not being a whole lot, because he has been so inconsistent.

Sheffield hasn't played 3rd base in ten years, so he isn't getting the affirmative nod. If the yanks can sign I-Rod, than they can switch over Posada to third or use their new utility guy, Taylor Houston. As for Sheffield playing 3rd: he doesn't have the speed and quickness he once had, all those years ago in Montreal.

P.S. - Glad to be on these boards. Hello to all. :)

I mean I know he came up as a shortstop...the last time he played the infield was back in 1993...for both the San Diego Padres and the Florida Marlins.....trust me, I serrriously DOUBT he'll be playing 3rd for the Yankees. It's been 11 years.....Rightfielder he will be!

They just got Tyler Houston, he's a solid player, but not an every dayer. Good hard-nosed player.

My aplogies to the both of you...it isn't a definite yet..since the Yankees signed Tyler Houston earlier today, but tonight, CBS-TV reported that Gary Sheffield has volunteered to play 3rd base for them......
