This is channel 4 news reporting live from Portland campus as the university prepares to announces its new head coach, we now take you to the Portland Athletic Director Joe Etzel.
Etzel: I would like to thank everyone for coming to this press conference today. As you well know we are here to hire a new coach who will guide us into the next level. Our new head coach was an assistant at Gonzaga for 3 years and helped them reach the NCAA tourny all 3 of his years. He was highly recommended by all the Gonzaga program coaches and players. So without further adu here's your new coach Shane Doherty!
Coach: Thank you Mr. Etzel for this fine opportunity of coaching your school and thank you to the people of Portland for welcoming me. This program has not been one of the strongest in the West Coast Conference, but with hard work and determination it will be soon. My style of coaching is to hit the glass hard and play tenacious defense. Last year the team went 11-17 and 4-10 in conference play. This year my goal for the team is at least 17 wins. This will be hard to do, but with a bit of luck and practice we can achieve it. OK any Questions?
Reporter #1: Coach, Your team plays Gonzaga twice, Pepperdine twice, Duke, Oregon, and Oregon State this year. Did you look at the team's schedule before you made that goal?
Coach : (Chuckle) Well to be honest not till after I was offered the job, but theres still plenty of other games after those and who knows maybe we can pull an upset.
Reporter #2: Have you hired any assistant coaches yet?
Coach: As a matter of fact I have, I have hired Al Mascoll(74) and Matt Larson(70).
Reporter #3: Have you seen your players yet and what do you think of them?
Coach: Yes I have seen the guys and their is some serious potential. We are a small team. Our biggest guy is a 6'9 freshman forward, so obviously its gonna have to be an entire team effort on the glass. Well I'd like to thank you all for coming and be sure to come out and watch us this season.
Well there you have folks the new head coach at the Portland Pilots. Wish him luck because he's gonna need it. Back to you in the studio Bob........

This one was a classic. On paper Boise State are clear favorites, but thats why they play the game. Both teams struggled at the start, with the teams combining for just 2 baskets in the opening 3 minutes. Early on both the Starting SG for Portland Casey Frandsen and the back up sg got into deep foul trouble. They both had 3 at halftime. When Casey picked up his 2nd and was forced to the bench Boise found their stroke and took a 11-4 lead. Coach Doherty immediatly brought on Donald Wilson who carried the team all night long. He brought the game back to 4 at 16-12 with just under 7 mins left in the half. Coach Doherty who was forced to put Frandsen back in then picks up another foul forcing Coach Doherty to bring in Eugene Jeter. With the score 29-24 Jeter shoots a J but clangs it short, but not giving up is Galos with the off reb, but he misses it, but he won't give up and tips it up and in to cut it to 3. Boise State hit a jumper as the halftime buzzer goes off to go up 31-26 in an exciting 1st half. Boise jumps out quickly to lead 38-32 but Donald Wilson and Adam Quick take over for Portland as the quickly tied it up at 42 with just 9:00 left in the game. But in a strange decision by Coach Doherty he subs the entire team! The move pays off as the reserves hang in their as the 2 teams trade baskets until Adam Quick re-enters. He scores 2 straight baskets and forces a turnover leading to another one as Portland jump out 57-51. But Boise responds and tie it up at 60 with just under 3:30 left in the game. With Just 1:30 left and time running down on the shot clock the Boise State SF hits a rainbow 3 over Donald Wilson to give Boise a 67-64 lead. Boise then stretch it to 5, but a quick basket by galos makes it 3, then a steal by Wilson cuts it to just 1 with 38 secs left to play. The full court press is on and Boise beat it up the floor and go inside but the contested jumper is short and the rebound goes to Portland who call a timeout. Adam Quick and Donald Wilson are so tired that coach Doherty has to take them out. With time running down the ball is in the hands of Eugene Jeter as he is working against a much bigger defender and he beats him off the dribble but is immidiatly cut off by another player and is forced to take a shot which bounces off the back of the rim long as the clock expires. Boise wins a squeaker 71-70.

The Pilots head up in to beaver country as they prepare to take on the Pac-10 Oregon State Beavers. Coach Doherty has put Donald Wilson in to the lineup in our no-brainer move of the day. The game starts and sees a lot of back and forth action with neither team shooting well nor dominating one another. Donald Wilson and Adam Quick lead the Pilots to a 5 point lead at halftime with the score 31-25. Neither team shot a lot of 3's combing for 2 for 7 from the 3 pt land which was also sadly the Pilots ft numbers for the half. Early in the 2nd Osu gets a 3 pt play and Quick picks up his 3rd foul. Coach Doherty boldly keeps him in the game and is rewarded for his loyalty. Quick immidiatly hits a 3 pointer. After some sloppy passing Quick is found all alone on defending a 2 on 1 but he mans up and rejects the bigger forward igniting a break and a 2 for Wilson which gave the pilots a 12 point lead. A few moments later Donald Wilson picks up his 3rd foul forcing coach Doherty to do mass substituions. The teams trade baskets and the lead stays around 11 to 15 points as Quick who re-entered started to take over the scoring load. With just 4:00 left OSU cut the lead down to 8 points, but thats when Donald Wilson took over the game. On the next play he scored a hook shot in the lane, later he stole the ball and jammed it home for a 16 point Pilot lead, sealing the game with a 1:30 left. The Pilots win their first game of the season 67-52.

Portland Pilots vs Long Beach State 49ers
This game started off like a ball of fire. LBSU made 4 ouf of their 1st 5 shots of the game, but we're still losing thanks to Donald Wilson exploiting their man-to-man d. With 9:37 left LBSU get a 4 pt play as their SF burries a trey and draws the second foul on sub Karl Aaker. Their lead grows to 5, but Portland battles back and takes a 22-21 lead after a 3 pt play by Adam Quick w/ 7:40 left in the half. Both teams continue to scorch the nets leaving a tight one at the half Portland 43 LBSU 41. Into the second half now and Adam Quick takes over against the zone defense scoring 3 straight baskets to give the Pilots an 8 pt lead with just under 12 to go. LBSU clawed right back into it to tie it back up at 55 w/ both Quick and Wilson on the bench w/ 3 fouls. Both teams stay even and the defenses pick it up with just 2:52 left the game is tied at 67. A minute and a half lafter its 71-70 and the Pilots have the ball in Donald Wilsons hand who promptly misses the J, but Galos hits the glass and kicks the ball back to Casey Frandesen for the huge 2 point field goal. LBSU responds w/ a leaner in the lane to make it 73-72. LBSU then force Portland to miss a Jumper, but throw the ball away! Unfortunately for LBSU they had no team fouls so by the time they got Quick into the bonus their was just 8.3 seconds left. The first one is up...clang..long, the loose ball is scrambled for and goes to LBSU who push it up the court looking for the open man in the corner but Frandsen deflects it out of bounds with just 0.7 secs left. With that amount of time its just enough for a catch and shot, and thats exactly what they do inbounding it to their sg who tries a long duece, but has it sent back in his face by Casey Frandsen and the Pilots hang on for their 2nd win of the season.

Portland Pilots (2-1) at New Mexico (0-0)
This game was another game that got off quickly. New Mexico took advantage of their size mismatch using their small forward shooting over the smaller Donald Wilson twice for 2 baskets from beyond the arch which helped them to an early 18-14 lead. But New Mexico who were making their season debut went cold from the field and the Pilots opened a big lead with a 24-0 run. The run was sparked by Karl Aaker off the bench. The game never got to close as it opened up even more with the final being Portland 84-56

Portland Pilots (3-1) vs Nevada (3-0)
In what was to be the toughest team the Pilots played up to this point in the season the game couldn't have started much worse. just 4 minutes in and Nevada was already up 15-5 and Donald Wilson had picked up 2 fouls. But the Pilots bench again sparked the team as another run brought them into the lead, a 13-0 run made it 18-15, but Nevada nailed a 3 next time down to tie it. Donald Wilson comes back in the game and provides a huge defensive spark with a number of deflections and a steal. Offensivly Eugene Jeter off the bench scores 8 1st half points which is also the lead for the Pilots at halftime, their biggiest of the night at 40-32 entering the half. The wolfpack start quickly cutting the game to 3 at 48-45, but Donald Wilson answers with the jam after some great offensive boardwork by Geddis and Galos. The game hovers around 3 for the next couple of minutes until Quick penetrates the zone and kicks to Aakers who nails the open three making it 60-53. Aaker makes another huge play beating his man and laying it up and being hacked in the process, but he would promptly miss the free throw to make it 64-55 with 4:30 left. Fast forward to 3:03 left the Wolfpack down 10, Jeter fouls their gaurd shooting a 3, but he only makes 2 from the line. Down by 9 w/ 1:27 left Nevada start hacking away. The next minute sees some horrendues free throw shooting from the Pilots. (I need a new controller) But despite a late push and bad foul shots the Pilots hang on for the upset 74-69.

In a game that was supposed to be an easy win for the Portland Pilots it left Coach Doherty nervous for most of the game.
Portland Pilots (4-1) vs Portland State Vikings (0-3)
In the first game all season, where the pilots are the favorites, the opposition quickly got their attention by shutting down Adam Quick and stiffling Donald Wilson with their zone defense. karl Aaker off the bench kept the Pilots in the game at 18-16 in favor of the Pilots at the halfway point. The inside domination by the Pilots extended the lead to 8 as Geddis and Galos had outstanding nights. Just when it seemed like the lead might sneak out of control the Vikings go on a 9-2 run to end the half to cut the deficit down to 2 with the score 35-33. Quick came out like his name says in the second half scoring a basket, stealing a pass, and setting up 2 of his teammates for baskets giving the Pilots a 41-33 advantage. The Vikings refuse to go away and focus in on shutting down Quick. The Vikings keep nibbling away and after a 3 cut the lead down to 49-46 with just 8:30 left. Another run sparked by Donald Wilson sees the Pilots lead grow to 12 at 61-49 with 4:30 left. Could the Vikings make another comeback? Not this time as Adam Quick refuses to be shut down any longer as he goes mad with both assists and points as he helps the Pilots pull to a lead of 20 with not long left. However with great 3 point shooting the Vikings pull it back to single digits, but just to much Donald Wilson and Dustin Geddis on the glass in the end. Final Pilots 81-Vikings 65.

Portland Pilots (5-1) at #7 Duke Blue Devils (4-0)
The Dukies win the opening tip and immediately throw an alley-opp to J.J. Reddick for the first 2 of the game. That looks to be a bad omen of things to come. J.J. Reddick is on fire as he scores 13 points in the first 5 minutes of the game and is singlehandly beating the Pilots. However, Duke only has 15 and they lead by 3. With 7:42 left in the half and the game all square at 20 reserve sf Karl Aaker picks up his 3rd personal and forcing Donald Wilson in earlier than Coach Doherty wanted. This proved to be a break for the Pilots as Duke rested Reddick leaving Donald Wilson as the best scorer on the floor and thats exactly what he did. He helps to generate their biggiest lead of the half at 38-32 untill Duhon and Daniel Ewing take over in the final 2 minutes of the half shutting down the Pilots defensivly and scoring 3 huge baskets to make it 40-38 Pilots at the half. After the Pilots go up 42-38, Reddick makes 2 baskets to tie it up at 42. Then the game turned as Donald Wilson caught fire. He scored 4 straight baskets including being hacked twice on those and nailing both free throws. It was a 10-0 Donald Wilson run making it 54-44 w/ 12:23 to go. The run continues w/ 2 more fast break baskets, the last being an ally-oop from Quick to Frandsen for a 58-44 Pilot lead. With 10:20 left Duke finally goes to a zone defense. Duke cuts it to 10, but every time they do Donald Wilson has an answer. Infact he was so good he had 28 pts in the game with 8:40 left when he had to go to the bench for a breather. With both Quick and Wilson on the bench Duke cut the lead in half to make it 68-61 w/ 6:50 to play. Just under 5 to go and that man Reddick nails 2 long distance bombs to cut the gap to 70-67 forcing Donald Wilson to re-enter early. the teams trade baskets for the next 2 minutes until Duke finally misses a Jumper which leads to a fast break an an open look for Wilson who actually misses, but Geddis gets the offensive board and kicks it out to Quick who nails the three making it 81-75 Pilots with 2:15 to play. After some good D by Duke they cut the gap down to 2 with 1:10 left to play. Adam Quick responds beating his man for the lay in as Duke is back in a man to man D. Duke responds with a putback to make it 83-81 with 43.0 left. Quick beats the press and finds Galos for the slame and a 4 point lead. Chris Duhon hits an enormous and very long 3 pointer to make it 85-84 with just 28 secs left. Again the Pilots beat the press and Donald Wilson goes hard to the rac slamming it home and drawing the harm. However he misses the foul shot, but my man Geddis doing the dirty work inside grabs the O-board and kicks it out. Duke is forced to send Quick to the line for the bonus. The First one is up......good!! 2nd free bee up and he cans it for an 89-84 lead. Frandsen foolishly fouls Daniel Ewing shooting 3 with 1.2 left and he camly makes all 3 from the charity stripe. Duke fouls Quick with 0.8 left and he nails the first. Here comes the big one.....swish!!! Oh MY Goodness the Pilots Win!!! The Pilots Win!!

This is Bob Smith for Channel 4 news live with the Victorous Pilots head Coach Shane Doherty. In what can only be described as the biggiest win in school history the team is not dumping win all over one another but they are definitly happy with themselves Coach, some are saying this is the biggest upset since Chamanade beat Virgina and Ralph Sampson what do u think?
Coach: Well, I dono bout that, but its not that big of an upset. We've been playing really good basketball and no-one can stop the Quick and Wilson combination, just a great win
Smith: Coach, You appeared to have no answer for J.J. Reddick all night and Duke appeared to have no answer for Donald Wilson. Do you think Donald Wilson will now get the attention that maybe a J.J. Reddick gets.
Coach: I think its very possible, but we're going to have to keep winning and he's gonna have to keep scoring. He's going to have to work on his ft shooting if he wants to get better and his long range shooting. But boy Reddick is the best pure shooter I've seen in a long time.
Smith: Well coach Congrats on a huge win for you and the program and thank you for joining us, this is Bob Smith from Durham, North Carolina, back to you in the studio......

Portland Pilots (6-1) at Weber State Wildcats (0-3)
Despite the winless record of the Wildcats many believe that they will be able to notch their first one of the young season today. One of the keys for a Wildcat win is shutting down Donald Wilson, or force into foul trouble which is exactly what they did. Only 3 minutes into the game Wilson picks up his 2nd foul, but Coach Doherty refuses to take his star out. The zone of the Wildcats focuses on Wilson and Quick which allows Casey Frandsen to get some open looks as he scores 9 points in the first 5 minutes enabling the Pilots to a 15-11 lead. Fast Forward to the 7:30 mark of the 1st half and a frustrated and scoreless Donald Wilson charges right over the center for his 3rd foul, despite Coach Doherty chewing out the refs and anyone who would listen. With Quick and Wilson being shut down it would seem like the wildcats would dominate, but Casey Frandsen who pumped a game high 22 points kept the Pilots ahead, and nailed a long three to put the Pilots up 39-34 at half. The second half sees the worst nightmare of the Wildcats come through, Donald Wilson gets on a roll. He scores 6 early points to give the Pilots a 47-38 advantage. The pilots lead grows all the way to 20 as the wildcats go stone cold from the field. Despite a horrific shooting night fro Adam Quick and a subpar 1st half from Donald Wilson the Pilots cruise to their 7th victory of the season with the final being 74-56

Portland Pilots (7-1) @ Portland State Vikings (1-5)
The last time these two teams met the scoreboard didn't tell the whole story. The Pilots won by 15, but the Vikings earned their respect showing a lot of heart. Coach Doherty, has to be wondering will the Pilot players be overconfident going up against a team they know they are more talented than, even despite the Vikings last effort against the Pilots. The game starts off in a familiar tone...Donald Wilson in foul trouble. The Vikings again are hanging right in there and after 7 minutes have a 17-15 lead, just a minute later their lead has grown to 23-17. But Donald Wilson wakes up and sparks the Pilots to close the gap to 28-27 with just 3:54 left in the half. Despite 12 points in the 1st from Wilson he makes a terrible mistake fouling the Portland State Big man trying to block a shot picking up his 3rd foul. The Portland State big man showed a lot of strength in nailing the shot despite Wilson clobbering him. Despite Wilson being forced to the bench the Pilots have the lead thanks to a 5 assist half from Adam Quick with the score 44-42 in a shootout. In a game that was a tale of 2 halves the 2nd starts very ominous for the Vikings. Immediately, Quick throws an ally-opp for Wilson who slams it home, and then another ally-opp from Quick to Frandsen, who had a season high 24 pts, gives the Pilots a 50-43 lead. The running and gunning doesn't stop there as a 16-0 run makes the score 62-43 as Adam Quick is an assist machine, at the end of the run he has 11 assists! The Rest of the game was just ugly for the Vikings and easy baskets for the Pilots as the stat sheets were ridiculous after the game especially from Adam Quick. The Pilots ran up the score to 101-63 in the end drawing some criticism from the Portland State fans and their head coach, but the Pilot players couldn't care less.

Portland Pilots (8-1) at Boise State Broncos (2-5)
This was a game that Coach Doherty knew his players would be fired up to achieve vengance on the only team to beat his squad so far. The Boise State Broncos who have struggled mightily this year were in no mood to role over and play dead in their house. The Broncos do exactly what they want to do and thats get off to a quick start. With Donald Wilson shut down the Broncos come out on fire taking a 19-5 early lead. Coach Doherty who has seen enough calls timeout and subs in his reserves to hopefully light a spark. The offense immediately picks up, but not the defense as the Broncos are operating on all cylinders taking a 29-16 lead with still 8 minutes to play. The Pilots sratch and claw at the hot shooting Broncos and eventually cut the lead to 8. Just as soon as things are starting to look good the Broncos go right back into 1st gear as they open up a 15 point lead with the score 43-28. Adam Quick shows the heart of Champion earning a 3 point play, and 2 assists to cut the gap to 43-35 with just over a minute and half to play in the 1st. Next tripe down Quick finds Frandsen to cut it down to 6. The Quiet Wilson makes some noise as he steals a pass and then passes to Quick who scores to cut it to 43-39. The great defense of the Pilots continues to puzzle the Broncos as their lead is cut to 45-43 at the half. At the 13:13 mark Wilson find #12 for the slam drawing the Pilots level for the 1st time since tip-off. The Pilots 1st lead comes after Quick finds Wilson for his first 3 point make on the season making the score 58-56 with under 10 to go. The heart of these two teams shows as both continue to find ways to score, trading leads and baskets for the next several minutes. At the 5:46 mark and the game tied at 68 the Broncos go on a huge 8 to nothing run, but Casey Frandsen promptly nails a 3 to bring the Pilots right back in at 76-71 with under 4 to play. Karl Aaker the Defensive MVP of the Night blocks 2 straight jumpers leading to fast break baskets cutting the lead down to 1 with just 2:20 to play. 2 more defensive stands by Karl Aaker and company allow the pilots to bring in Wilson and Quick fully rested and only down by 1 with the ball and 58 secs left. Quick beats his man and draws a foul, but can't hit the shot. He goes to the line where he misses the first. The second one is true though to tie the game at 76. Casey Frandsen commits a huge shooting foul on the Broncos SG with 37.5 left. With the pressure on the Gaurd nails the first. Everyone expects him to nail the second.....NO GOOD!! The Pilots quickly push the ball up the floor and Donald Wilson makes a reverse laying over the center making it 78-77 with under 30 to go. The broncos wind the clock down in an effort to take the last shot. The broncos point gaurd can't find anyone with the clock going under 5 secs to play so he finds the nearest man the SG who is covered by Galos. The Gaurd has no choice to jack it up......Its Rejected! Time Runs out on the Broncos as the Pilots defense enables them to escape in a thriller 78-77.

Portland Pilots (9-1) vs Oregon Ducks (4-3)
In the 2nd game in 3 days the battle tested Portland Pilots look to take down another Pac-10 powerhouse in the Oregon Ducks. The game starts off exactly as planned with 2 straight baskets by Wilson with assists from Adam Quick. Both teams struggle from the field early, but good Offensive rebounding by the Pilots enables them to have a 10-7 lead at the 10:30 mark when the subs enter the game. Oregon's defense immediatly picks up and they take their first lead at 11-10 with 8:36 to play. Adam Quick re-enters early and gets a 3 point play to give the Pilots a 22-26 lead with 5:23 left. the Pilots leads grows to 28-18 after Quick finds Frandsen for the deuce. Luke Jackson keeps the ducks afloat scoring 3 straight times down the court but they still trail by 10 at the half. The second half sees Luke Jackson take over the game as he is perfect from the field hitting his first 7 shots of the game while the Pilots reserves can't make layups and this enables the Ducks to not only eliminate a 10 point disadvantage but take a 6 point lead with just 8 to play. The inside work of the Pilots keeps them in the game as they put score put backs on 2 straight trips to cut the deficit to 52-50. On the next play down the court Donald Wilson rejects a trey which leads to a fast break and a basket by Adam Quick. At the 4:58 mark left on the clock Coach Doherty decides to get his starters a quick breather seeing the game all nodded at 54. The reserves do a good job until the big PF for Oregon gets an off rebounds slams it home and draws the foul. He promptly makes the free throw giving the ducks a 62-58 advantage. The next minute sees neither team score and the starters re-enter for the Pilots. Almost immediately Donald Wilson scores 2 more points to make it 62-60 with 2:00 to play. On the next trip down the court the Oregon PG finds their SG who is wide open who burries the 3. Coach Doherty calls a timeout to settle his guys and tell them its not over yet. Wilson immediately goes hard to hole and draws the foul. The Pilots need Wilson to make both free throws but he can only make 1 of 2 from the line cutting the lead to 4 with less than a minute to go. After some initial good defense Patrick Galos reaches in to reset the shot clock for the Ducks. The Ducks could care less about the shot clock and game clock, as soon as they inbound the ball their PG hits a fade-away 3 pointer over Quick to give the ducks a 68-61 lead. Oregon would go on to make all of its Free Throws down the stretch and escape with the big victory for a struggling team. Final Score Oregon 74 Portland 65

This is Bob Smith live at the Portland Pilots campus to gauge the reaction of Coach Doherty to the Pilots loss to the Ducks today. We now send you the conference already in progress....
Coach: Well I thought Oregon did an outstanding job of hitting the outside shots, we couldn't stop their gaurds, as to what happened on the shot to put them ahead by 4 i'll have to break it down on tape but it looked like Quick got screened off. He might have had a mental lapse thought.
Reporter #1: Coach, You guys were winning by 10 at half, what was the difference that lead to Oregon outscoring you guys by 19 in the second half
Coach: Well there were many things, but I thought Luke Jackson carried the Ducks until their shooting came around. We couldn't make lay-ups in the second half. Heck, Eugene Jeter missed 2 straight lay-ins and even our 2 "stars" missed lay-ins as well.
Reporter #2: Coach, Do you think Fatigue has anything to do with tonights loss?
Coach: Not really, We use our bench about as much as any team in the country. Everybody seemed fresh, it was just a lack of shot making I think.
Reporter #3: You guys play tomorrow vs San Diego State, that doesn't give you much time to prepare your team for these guys. What do u know about your next opponents?
Coach: Wow, uh, well not much of anything, but we'll be prepared for them. We will come out and play hard like we do every night.
Reporter #2: Coach in a follow up to my earlier question do u like the idea of playing 3 games on 3 nights?
Coach: Absolutly, it gives our guys a sample of what Post season tournament life is like. And well after tonight it shows we still have a lot of work to do.
Reporter #4 Coach, Do you.....
Well there you have it straight from the horses mouth, Coach Doherty doesn't seem to distraught from the loss and promises his guys will be ready to play their next game vs San Diego State tomorrow night. For Channel 4 news this is Bob Smith. We'll know return you to your regulary sheduled programs. Thank You.

Portland Pilots (9-2) at San Diego State Aztecs (4-5)
Coach Doherty was recently quoted in the paper saying that he didn't know awhole lot about his next opponent the SDSU Aztecs. The Aztecs must have taken this is an insult because they sure came to play. Early action sees Donald Wilson score 6 of the Pilots first 10 points to take a 10-8 lead before coach Doherty gives him an early breather. The bench players for the Pilots played poorly while they were in the game all night, but early they enabled SDSU to take a 15-12 lead. As soon as the starters re-entered things changed. The starters immediatly went on a run to take a 7 point lead at 34-27 w/ 1:54 left in the half and would hang on to take a 7 point advantage in to the half at 38-31. The second started very good for the Pilots with Quick and Frandsen nailing 2 threes. If you thought the Aztecs would go away thing again. Infact after a 7-0 run they cut the gap to 46-42. At the 8:23 mark SDSU completed their comeback taking a 51-50 lead. Aaker responded with a three from the right corner to put the Pilots back on top. The Pilots lead for the next few minutes until a 3 pointer by SDSU gives the Aztecs a 61-59 lead with 5:44 to go. SDSU stays in the lead and wears down the Pilots starters who down 3 with 3:19 are subbed to get a quick breather. The teams trade points as with 2:38 to go its 70-67 SDSU. A 3 point play by the Aztecs gives them a 6 point lead with under 2:30 to go. The Pilots refuse to give in as an offensive rebound by the reserve center and a lay in puts the pilots down 4. After a defensive stop Adam Quick beats his man, but blows the lay-up! SDSU decides to test Karl Aaker again and thats the wrong idea, he blocks 2 of his 5 total blocks on the same series keeping hope alive. with 1:04 left down by 4 Donald Wilson goes to work and cuts the lead in half at 73-71. SDSU score on the other end making it 75-71. Wilson and the Pilots take to much time off the clock before they finally score to cut it to 2 and are forced to put the the Aztecs in the bonus. Only 17.4 left when the Forward steps to the line. The pressure is on and he feels it as he misses the free throw. The Pilots call time out to set up a play for Donald Wilson. The inbound goes to Wilson who works on his man, he shakes, drives lays it high off the glass, bounces around, and drops with 7.2 left to play! SDSU try to quickly move it up the court against the press but a player gets stuck at half and is called for a backcourt violation giving the Pilots the ball with a chance to win, but only 4.0 to do so. The Pilots look to Wilson for the win, but he is hounded and his prayer is not answered as the game heads into overtime. The OT sees Adam Quick take over early as he makes a basket and finds a teammate to make it 79-77 in the first minute of overtime. After a basket to tie it by SDSU, Quick earns a chance at a 3 point play after he is hacked on the arm while making a shot. Quick misses the free throw though keeping the lead at 2. SDSU go to the other end and show Quick how its done as they earn a 3 point play and sink the free throw going up by 1 at 84-83. But not to be outdone is reserve pg Jeter who does exactly what Quick did and earn a chance at a 3 point play. He goes to the line where everything looks good, the rhythm, release, but SOMEHOW it goes in and out to the shock of everyone. SDSU quickly score at the other end making it 86-85 with just 2 to play. Casey Frandsen commits a huge turnover allowing SDSU to take a 88-87 lead awith just 1:20 left. Donald Wilson asks for the ball and gets it, he beats his man but misses the leaner, but an off rebound for Geddis. They give it back to Wilson who again misses the shot and its rebounded by the Aztecs. A huge defensive rebound and a fast outlet to Quick who finds Wilson for the easy 2 puts the Pilots back up 1 with 47.3 to play. SDSU call timeout and promptly throw a dangerous inbounds pass which is deflected by Donald Wilson right into the hands of Adam Quick who pushes it up the floor and finds Wilson streaking for the slam making it 91-88 and all looks good. SDSU quickly run up the court and try a 3 which is no good, but they get an offensive rebound kick it out and bury the amazing 3......wait, the ref says his foot was on the line. The Replay clearly shows that the ref was correct. The Aztecs put Quick on the line with 14.4 left and the Pilots up by 1. The nervous Quick doesn't even come close from the line allowing SDSU one last chance which is where we give u the live gamecall:
Bob Smith: The Aztecs now down by 1 push it up quickly, the pg dribbles on the perimitter, 8 secs, 6 secs, he passes to the small forward who puts it up.....ITS GOOD!! With 2.2 secs left the Aztecs lead...no timeouts for the Pilots, Geddis inbounds it, he throws it long to Wilson who takes a dribble fires a fade away...........GOOOOOOOD!!! MOTHER FREAKING DONALD WILSON WINS THE GAME!!!!! OH my Goodness what a win.
As Bob Smith so elegantly put it "Mother Freaking Donald Wilson wins the game" for the Pilots who now move to 10-2 and are done for the 2003 part of their schedule

Coach: Well, we've gone to Duke, played in several thrillers both home and away so this team is well prepared for the ups and downs in conference play.
Smith: Now coach, entering conference play only 3 teams in the conference have a winning record and Gonzaga isn't one of them, but thats no reason to take them lightly is it?
Coach: Well you dont want to take anyone lightly, but especially not those guys. They'll be tough in conference and are still the favorites to win it, but we'll see what we can do.

Portland Pilots (10-2) at Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (3-7)
For one of the few times on the young season, the Pilots were seen as the better team on paper. However, Coach Doherty and his players have proved that talent on paper doesn't mean everything. The Pilots, who despite playing their 4th game of the week, had a very hard practice. When asked why, Coach Doherty responded "Well, in our last few games teams have been shooting awful well against us. We haven't put a hand in all that many jump shooters face. We're Really focusing on having our guys prepared defensivly for the upcoming conference games." Even the stats back up Coach Doherty. When the Pilots hold their opponent to under 70 they are 7-0! So We'll see if the hard work pays dividends....
The first 5 minutes of the game sees the Pilots favorite combo dominate the game. Wilson and Quick combine to score 13 points in a 15-9 lead for the Pilots before taking a breather. The Reserves, who Coach Doherty had really been working hard defensivly, came in and played outstanding. Reserve center #12 scored 8 early points off the bench as the Pilots stretched the lead to 25-13. When Quick and Wilson re-enter, the lead immediatly stretches as the two of them can't be stopped. After a pass from Quick to Wilson for the slam the score is 35-18 with 4 minutes left in the 1st half. The lead continues to grow as the suffocating Pilots defense holds the lumberjacks to just 24 points at the half, while the Pilots have 48. Donald Wilson had 4 blocks in the first half, showing that the practice had paid off. The 2nd half was a furious up and down half that really only had one question: Would the Pilots score 100? Well the simple answer is no, but they came close. The Final score in this one was 96-64. Bring on the West Coast Conference!

Portland Pilots (11-2) at Loyola Maramount Lions (6-7)
In the Season opener The Pilots look to the usual combination to guide them to victory. Early On it appears that combination is clicking as they combine to score as many points as the Lions, but still only lead 13-10. With the starters on the bench the reserves quickly get into foul trouble. Eugene Jeter scores 2 baskets but picks up 2 fouls. Shortly after this Karl Aaker picks up 2 fouls. At the 8:04 mark and the Pilots up 3, Adam Quick nails back to back threes to put the Pilots ahead 8. The game would soon become a blowout as a 14-3 run by the Pilots put them ahead 40-21. with the half running down, Loyola Jack up three from long range and miss it, but the agressive defensive of Karl Aaker fouls the shooter so he gets 3 shots. To Summarize the night for the home team he makes 1 of the 3 from the line. The 2nd half sees the lead continue to widen as the Pilots defense dominates. In total the Pilots had 11 steals and 11 blocks, as well as forcing 20 turnovers. LMU shot a descent 37.2 from the field, but not nearly enough to make this game respectable. The Pilots Win their 1st conference game 76-43. Up next one of the Perennial West Coast Powerhouses the Pepperdine Waves.

Portland Pilots (12-2) At Pepperdine Waves (9-6)
With the Pilots look to add another key win to their resume, the basketball eyes of the west focus in on Malibou, California. When asked before the game Coach Paul Westphal of the Waves said regarding the Pilots:" These guys are not the most talented group in the world. Coach Doherty gets all he can out of his guys, who bust their buts for the entire game. If I could get that much out of my guys we'd have their record." As the game gets underway a common occurence for the Pilots takes place: Donald Wilson in foul trouble. With the score 8-8 and over 12 minutes remaining he picks up his 2nd forcing coach Doherty to take his star out. The slack is immidiatly picked up by Adam Quick who scores 5 quick point to continue his great play of late. With the score 13-10 Casey Frandsen picks up his 2nd foul, with still 10 minutes left. Adam Quick continues to press on scoring 4 more points and setting up 2 baskets giving the Pilots their biggiest lead of the night 21-12. With Adam on the bench Pepperdine shut down the Offensive of the Pilots and nail 2 three's to cut the gap to 3 pts. The reserves for both teams keep the game close until Adam Quick re-enters and threatens to open it up. He scores 2 points and sets up another basket to make it 31-26 w 5 minutes left. The Pilots go scoreless for the next 2 minutes and the Waves draw level. Pepperdine's Defense continues to slow down the high flying Pilots grounding them to just 4 points in the final 5 minutes of the half. The Waves lead 37-35. Early 2nd half action sees the Pepperdine big men take over the game inside. They work the lead to 6 and have a +8 on the boards, which is rare against the Pilots. The Pilots can only cut it to 4 before the starters are tired and need a break. The Reserves come in in and immidiately put smiles on the coaching staffs faces for all their hard work in practice. Eugene Jeter draws the Pilots level at 8:23 after a 3 point play. With the game tied at 54 the defense of the Pilots takes over. Karl Aaker in particular takes over on the defensive end, blocking 2 straight lay in attempts, stealing passes and even scoring jumpers on the other end like a regular J.J. Reddick. Thanks to Aaker the lead grows to 65-56 equaling the previous high with 3:34 to play when Aaker exits to a standing O from the loyal Pilots fans who made the journey. Pepperdine getting the idea that defense was gonna win this game does what it did at the end of the first half in shutting down the Pilots offense. Over the next 3 minutes the Waves chip away enough to be down 5 with the ball, but only 38.1 to play where they call timeout. The inbounds pass is deflected by Wilson right to an open man who buries the jumper making the score 69-66. Pepperdine waisted alot of time before putting Quick on the line with 13.2 to play. As Quick seems to do in the pressure, he misses the free throw, but Dustin Geddis gets the Offensive rebound and draws the foul. He calmly steps to the line and nails both free throws putting the game out of reach. The Pilots would go on to win 73-66

Portland Pilots (13-2) vs Saint Mary's Gaels (3-7)
This game would be played at up-tempo pase that would have made Jerry Tarkanian and the Running Rebels of the early 90s proud. One of the key's for the Gaels to stay close was to get the Pilots in early foul trouble. So they went after Donald Wilson and got him in early foul trouble. With the score only 8-6 and over 12 minutes to play Wilson picks up his 2nd foul. Reacting to the call, Coach Doherty had to be restrained from going after the ref, in hindsight its amazing he didn't get a technical foul. Just a matter of plays later Donald Wilson picks up his 3rd foul and is forced to take a seat on the bench. The fouls on the Pilots came down fast and furious in the 1st half. With 9:03 left Wilson's backup Karl Aaker picked up his 2nd foul. The Pilots ignored the refs quick whistles and with great play from the entire bench took a 25-16 lead just over halfway left in the 1st half. Neither team challenged many shots the next few minutes for fear of getting into deep foul trouble so the scoring numbers continued to escalate. At the 3:37 mark the Pilots lead 44-32 with over half of those points coming from off the bench. At the 1:03 mark the Pilots went over the halfway to 100 mark as Quick found Wilson for the layup giving Quick his 6th assist of the first half. At the half the score was 55-44. The Pilots were called for 13 team fouls in the first half which left a very irrate Coach Doherty to say this after the game."Tonight, I thought we did an excellent job of playing our game despite some ****-poor calls. I know we're a team that traditionally struggles, but you would expect to get some descent calls on your home floor." Infact the Pilots were called for more fouls in the first half than their season avg per game. Well Anyways the 2nd half saw the game continue to fly up and down the court. Their were a couple of dunks by the Pilots that were Sportscenter top 10 worthy, so you might want to tune intonight and see if they make it. The closest the gaels got in the 2nd half was 11 points after Wilson picked up his 4th personal, and the Gaels completed a 4 point play. Despite all the foul trouble no one fouled out. The bench scored a season high 50 points as the team scored a season high 111, while holding the Gaels to 80.

The Pilots looked to continue their recent good play against one of the weaker WCC teams. However, with Gonzaga as the next opponent, one can't help but wonder if the guys will be totally focused. To Coach Doherty's great delight the Pilots flew out of the gate taking an 18 to 11 lead less than 5 minutes into the compition. Both teams played very well on offense, But Donald Wilson proved yet again that no one could stop him. He had 14 points in the first half alone navigating the Pilots to a 48-32 halftime lead. Just when the Pilots thought they could put it on auto-pilot, the Dons made a run and cut the lead down to 9. However, the depth of the Pilots proved to much as Eugene Jeter again pumped in double digits off the bench. #31 also scored double digits as the lead grew to 19 with the score 65-56. The rest of the game was just a walk in the park for the Pilots as they extended their winning streak to 6 games with a 93-62 victory.

Portland Pilots (15-2) vs Gonzaga Bulldogs (8-7)
When Shane Doherty first took the job as the head coach of the Pilots, it was his expierence at Gonzaga that got him the job. He knew that his former team was clearly better and that it would be years before his program would get to their status. However, his surprising players are tied with the Zags in the conference entering the game and have already made a national name for themselve. So as we wait for tip-off, lets give a thanks for Mark Few teaching Coach Doherty so well....Blake Stepp announced himself as the best player in the conference very early on as the first two trips for the zags he hits 2 three pointers. The Zags take a 12-4 lead before the Pilots battle back to tie it up with an 8-0 run with 11:20 left in the half. The teams trade baskets for the next few minutes, but a after a defensive stop, Jeter finds #31 on the fast break for 3 giving the Pilots their 1st lead at 21-18 with 8:35 left. With the score 27-23 the Pilot D focuses on Black Stepp. Wilson blocks his long shot attempt, which leads to Quick beating Stepp down the floor pulling up and draining the three. Stepp continues to shoot lights out as he has 17 of the zags first 28 points as they cut the lead to 4 with just 2:35 to play. With Stepp on the bench 5 quick pts by the Pilots gives them their biggiest lead at 39-30. The Zags play good D down the stretch as well as the Pilots, only 1 basket the rest of the half and that was by the Zags making the score at half 39-32. The second starts the same as the first seeing Blake Stepp score 5 points off the bat to cut the lead to 2. The game stays close, but the Pilots stay in the lead until Kyle Bankhead following Stepp's path hits back to back threes to put the zags ahead 50-48 with just under 10 to play. The Zags lead stretches to 5, but another 8-0 run by the Pilots gives them a 60-57 lead. The run doesn't stop as it gets up to 8 before Errol knight score a jumper cutting the lead to 5. A 3 point play by Frandsen gives the Pilots their biggiest lead of the night at 71-61 with 3:50 left. The rest of the game sees Mark Few bench Blake Stepp. When asked why here's what he said after the game: "Blake was doing a great job scoring all night, but as a point guard its his job to get his team involved. He generally does that, but tonight he had only 1 assist the whole game, in hindsight it might not have been my best move, but it'll teach Blake he can't beat these guys by himself." The Rest of the game saw the pilots pull away for perhalps their biggiest win of the season 84-66.

Portland Pilots (16-2) at San Diego Toreros (2-13)
In San Diego, they have it all: Beautiful weather, beautiful women, an nfl team, an mlb team, college basketball teams. But unlike the weather and the women, their sports teams are not good this year. The Toreros are the worst team in the conference and had the Pilots salivating about this game. The Toreros knew that they weren't as good as the Pilots, but in the first half they showed they didn't care. The Game started off well for the Pilots leading 14-8 just 5 minutes in. Even with 5 minutes left the the Pilots lead 24-17. The toreros refused to go down without a fight and fought all the way back to tie it at halftime. Coach Doherty who was disappointed with his players performance during the first half got his team fired up in the second. The Pilots quickly took a 7 point lead and would eventually push it to 13. The Toreros were not going to be another blowout victim for the Pilots as the hung tough and kept it under double digits for the most part, but late game fouling pushed the final to 79-66. Coach Doherty had this to say after the game: "We played our worst game of the season tonight, when we don't play with heart, anybody can beat us. That first half was a bunch of guys saying me, me, me, instead of us, us, us. If We play like this at Santa Clara in 2 days we'll be heading home to Portland with our first loss."

Note* The Pilots are the 55th ranked team in both the ESPN and Press polls, while the RPI has them 35th. Adam Quick is 5th in the country in assists per game at 8.4. Donald Wilson is the 3rd leading scorer at 24.6 ppg.
Zoiks, I struggled against the Dons in my legacy. I've never seen a CPU opponent attack an area of weakness like the Dons did with my perimeter
It's fun reading the various legacies on this forum, there's a lot of creativity on display

Portland Pilots (17-2) at Santa Clara Broncos (10-4)
In a matchup of two of the best teams in the West Coast Conference, the Pilots get off to a great start after just a few minutes they lead 11-4. The Broncos were not going to be an easy win for the Pilots as they looked to exceed their coach's win total goal from the start of the season. At the 9:30 mark Donald Wilson picked up his 2nd foul on a 3 point play for the Broncos cutting the lead to 22-19 in a high flying game. Wilson would re-enter and carry the Pilots scoring 14 of their first 31 points, but the Broncos matched them and were tied at 31 with just under 4 remaining in the first half. Eujene Jeter and #31 off the bench combined to hit 8 for 8 from the field in the first half sparking the Pilots to a 48-40 halftime lead. The second half saw both teams making 6-0 runs to start it, but the lead stayed right around 8 points. However, at the 9:20 mark the Pilots bench pushes the lead to 15 points. The Broncos again cut it back to 8 at 77-69 w/ 3:52 to go. With the Pilots still up 8 with just 1:09 left, Quick goes to the bonus where he missed one of two, but offensive rebounding put Geddis on the line who burried it. The Pilots kept the Broncos scoreless over the last 1:20 to win a tough one on the road 93-77.

Loyola Maramount Lions (8-12) at Portland Pilots (18-2)
The Lions are one of the toughest defenses in the West Coast Conference. If They can score some points they can beat anybody in the league on any night. The Last time these 2 met it was not pretty as the Pilots handed the Lions a beatdown 76-43. The Lions avg the fewest ppg in the West Coast Conference and still have a respectable record... The Lions Defense starts out frustrating the perimitter players of the Pilots taking an early 11-8 lead. They challenge every shot and force Quick to adjust and miss 2 lay-ins he normally makes. At the 7:58 mark the Lions lead 20-16 behind 9 pts from the SF and 7 from their starting PG. After 3 ft's from LMU's PG they have their biggiest lead of the night at 28-22 with just over 5 to play. At the 3:45 mark Adam Quick finally scores 2 cutting the lead to 2 at 28-26. The Pilots do what they do best and hang tough the rest of the half trailing by 2, until under 30 secs left in the half Karl Aaker bombs a trey to give them a lead for the first time since the opening minutes. After 2 missed Ft's by LMU the score stays is 35-34 at half. The opening 3 minutes of the second half are see-saw as one team scores then the other answers. At the 10 minute mark Quick picks up his 4th foul as LMU's pg, who had 20 pts, burries a jumper and draws the contack making it 47-45. The Pilots go on a 10-2 run right after the foul to take a 55-47 lead. The Pilots lead grows to double digits as Adam Quick records another double-double w/ 10 pts and 10 assists. The Pilots pull away 84-67, but know they were tested for over half the game untill the Lions ran out of gas.

Pepperdine Waves (18-7) at Portland Pilots (19-2)
In a rematch of the top 2 teams in the West Coast Conference, everyone knew both teams would come out and play hard as the Waves had to have this game. The first minute of the game would tell the story for how it would go for the Pilots, 3 early fouls and 2 of those on Galos. At the 12:30 mark Quick picks up his 2nd foul, but the Pilots still lead 7-2. At 10:31 Quick picks up his 3rd and the Pilots are already in the bonus. Both teams struggle to score as Casey Frandsen, in particular starts 0-5 from the field. The Pilots still lead 14-8, however w/ 8:30 left. Pepperdine start to wear away at the depleted Pilots squad on the floor and tied it up at 20 w/ 5:27 to play. The Waves take their first lead at 2:45 as :23 gets a 3 pt play to make it 27-24. The Pilots draw level at 31 just before half, but another foul on the Pilots sees the Waves get a 4 pt play to end the half up by that exact 4. At 13:02 Quick picks up his 4th foul as coach Doherty throws his arms up in the air in frustration. The Pilots continue to hang close but the Waves eventually get the lead up to 7 with 6:41 left as Jeter can't fill the role of Quick. Coach Doherty boldly and in hindsight stupidly puts Quick back in right after the Waves go up 7, and on the very next play Quick commits a charge fouling out of the game. Pepperdine would quickly see the lead grow to 6 at 60-51 with just 4:17 left. You can tell the Waves players are sensing they have given the Pilots their first loss of the Season. After a defensive stop, the Waves throw an ally-opp to go up 11 as the Pilots look dead on the floor. But if you think that Donald Wilson would just let the Pilots crash quietly, You wouldn't have followed this team all season. Wilson begins to take over and at the 1:03 mark has cut the lead down to 6. After a defensive stop by the Pilots Wilson earns a foul and goes to the line where he makes only 1 of 2 when they desperatly needed both with 44.7 to play. Another defensive stop and another basket by Wilson cuts the lead to 3 w/ 25.1 to play. The furious comeback attempt would be cut short as the Waves would not miss a free throw the rest of the way and would hold on to a 76-69 lead.

Portland Pilots (19-3) At St. Mary's Gaels (5-13)
The Pilots were looking to rebound after a controversial loss to Pepperdine. They were also looking to stay unbeaten away from the Leavy center. The team looked dazed at the beginning seeing the Gaels jump ahead 7-0 before a basket by Galos. At 12:41 Quick again is in foul trouble picking up his 2nd of the game. The gaels continue to lead the early parts of the basketball game as they start red hot from the field. After just 7 minutes played the score is 23-17 in favor of the Gaels. Each coach decides to change their defenses from a zone to man to man and it pays off for both on the defensive end. The next 3 minutes sees the gaels only score 4 points, while the Pilots score 6 to cut the lead to 4. The teams start to solve the tough defenses as the score is level at 31 with just 3 minutes to play in the half. The surprising story of the first half was Patrick Galos recording 12 points, while Quick doesn't score till just under the 2 minutes remaining mark giving the Pilots their first lead. The Pilots would hang on to that lead going into the half and would lead 37-35. The 2nd saw the Pilots defense just demolish the Gaels. The Pilots quickly jumped out to a 6 point lead at the 12:22 point, by 9:44 the lead was 10. The lead kept growing and after back to back threes by Adam Quick it was 23 with 4:15 left. Despite recieving a season low output from Donald Wilson of 13 points the Pilots were able to record their 20th of the season, which is the first time they've done that since 1994-1995. When asked about this after the game coach Doherty said this: "Well its certainly special to have a 20 win season, but that 1994-1995 team didn't make the big dance while a Pilot team that lost more than it won the following season made the big dance. Sometimes it doesn't matter what your record is, but its certainly nice having this milestone on our resume."

Portland Pilots (20-3) At San Francisco Dons (9-12)
The Pilots went on the road for the 14th time this season as they went into the city by the bay to take on Bill Russell's alma mader. The Pilots started off sloppy and were trailing 10-4 early. This makes the second game in a row that the Pilots have exited the gates slowly. The defense quickly picks up as they have it all tied at 10 at the 9:25 clip. the next few minutes sees the game stay close, but the Pilots take their first lead when #31 nails a 3 to make it 15-14 just over the halfway mark of the first half. That 3 started an 10-0 run which pushed the Pilot lead to 9 before a 3 point play by the dons cutting the lead to 6. The Pilots would stay on top of the Dons the rest of the half and led going into the lockerrooms 35-27. The story for the Pilots in the first half was hitting the glass really hard as they had 13 offensive rebounds in the first alone. The Pilots jumped out of the gate with a 12-2 run to start the second half and let 47-29 with 12:35 remaining. The Pilots got contributions from everyone tonight as Quick was held to just 10 points leaving #31 to pick up the slack off the bench with 12 points. Wilson had a sub-par night on the scoresheet but made up for it by hitting the glass. The Pilots would cruise to victory 71-53 thanks to a season high 58 rebounds. Portland Pilots (21-3) at Gonzaga Bulldogs (12-10)
The Last time these two teams met at the Kennel, the underdog Pilots came away with the victory. This year the Pilots will be the favorites. While only holding a 1 game lead in the conference on red hot Pepperdine, this is a huge game in what would surely give them a share of the title if they can win. The Pilots start strong on the defensive end, holding the zags to a point a min in the first 4 minutes. Then the offenses picks up as with 9:13 remaining the Pilots are 14-12 when Casey Frandsen picks up his 2nd personal foul. The Zags tkae advantage of the Pilots reserves being in and build an early 23-18 lead with under 7 to play in the first. At 5:44 mark Blake Stepp jacks up a 3 which is long, but Cory Violette is there for an offensive rebound, but instead of going back up strong with it he swings his elbows and knocks Galos down and out of the game with an injury. We would later learn that Galos would be out for the season with an torn achilles heal. At 3:50 Gonzaga have built the lead to 10 as Stepp can't miss from the floor. The lead continues to grow as back to back 3's by Stepp and Skinner put the Zags up 18 pts, which is the biggiest deficit the Pilots have faced all season. The half closes out with Stepp bombing a 3 over Wilson and Quick at the buzzer to make it 47-30. Stepp had 19 points in the first half which is more than Wilson had in the game. Coming out of the locker room, The Pilots looked like a changed team, they were determined to make this game a good one. In order to do that Coach Doherty put Wilson on Stepp to try and shut down his long range game. The Pilots immidiately start strong and open the half outscoring the Zags 11-4. With the Zags up 12 and the ball, they force an entry pass which is picked off and leads to an open 3 by Frandsen cutting the lead to single digits with 9:31 to go. On the next play down the court Aaker deflects a pass which leads to Jeter going all the way for the easy layin cutting the lead to 7 at 59-52. Another basket by Aaker draws the Pilots closer, but the Zags had a chance to stop the bleeding with an open look from Bankhead, who never misses, but misses! The Pilots Rebound fire it long to Frandsen who pulls up, and burries the three cutting the lead down to 2 at 59-57 with still 8 minutes to play. The next posession for the Zags is a waiste as Jeter steals it and drives the length of the floor for the lay-in completing a spectacular comeback as Mark Few finally calls a timeout and brings Stepp back in the game. At 7:12 left Stepp takes over keying a 7-0 run putting the Zags up 68-61, the lead would grow to 9 with just 3:28 as it appears the Pilots ran out of gas and are gonna crash hard. By the 2 minute mark the lead is cut to 7, but with Wilson struggling the Pilots can't find a go-to player. The Zags would do enough on both ends down the stretch to win a great conference game, and damage the Pilots hopes off being West Coast Conference champions. Final score 89-82

Santa Clara Broncos (14-6) At Portland Pilots (21-4)
Entering the second to last game of the season the Portland Pilots were tied for first in the West Coast Conference. Knowing that their last opponent is the worst team in the conference, todays opponent is one of the biggiest games in school history. They Pilots would have to win without starting PF Patrick Galos who was injuried in the last game against Gonzaga and is lost for the season. The Pilots come out flying as they score 9 pts in the first 2 minutes. The broncos stay close as they make their first 3, 3 point attempts of the night. The Pilots great start was keyed by Casey Frandsen starting 4 for 4 from the field. The Pilots lead through the majority of the first half, but the Broncos would not go away. With the Portland starters on the bench the Broncos would chip away at the lead and eventually take the lead for the themselves at 1:42. But the play that gave the Broncos the lead was not without controversy. The S.C. gaurd barrelled over Dustin Geddis for the layup. Coach Doherty was screaming for a charge, but soon after that his concern changed to was Geddis alright. Geddis had strained his neck and would be out for the remainder of this game and the final game of the season vs San Diego."Well, we lost our starting PF last week, tonight we lost our starting Center, We were already small inside, now we're just even smaller" said Coach Doherty. S.C. rambled off 9 unanswered points after the injury and took a 9 point lead into the break. S.C. started strong as their lead grew to the largest of the night 52-40. This Pilot team has shown all season that no lead is safe and they would again prove that. They cut the lead in half by 10:39 remaining and were right back in the game. The Pilots could draw no closer as the broncos were shooting a remarkable 61% from the field with 8:13 to go and had an 8 point lead. A 3 by Frandsen cuts the lead to 5 as Casey Frandsen is having a huge game, already with 19 points. S.C. answers with a deuce, but a 3 point play by Quick cuts the lead to 4. The broncos score 4 quick points to erase the momentum and put the lead back to 8. The Pilots keep scratching and clawing and after a give-go off an inbounds cut the lead back down to 4 with just 3:50 to play. At 3:15 the Pilots draw even closer as no-one finds Wilson on the defensive end for the Broncos and he gets an easy slam. At 1:45 the Pilots complete the late game comeback as Aaker finds Frandsen after a big d-rebound drawing level at 74. The teams trade baskets, and the ball is back in S.C. hands. The Pilots defense applies intense pressure on the ballhandler who throws the ball away as the Leavy center is about to explode. The Pilots go to Quick to give them the lead. He drives by his man but sees no avenue to get through to the basket so he kicks it to Frandsen for the long 2 who burries his 23rd point on the night. The broncos come up the court quickly and jack up a 3 which is no good. After waisting some time the Broncos get Adam Quick on the line with just 10.7 to go. The big free throw SOMEHOW is no good!! The broncos get the rebound but have trouble getting it up the floor. But they do get it up the floor which is where we give u the live game commentary from Pilots radio man Bob Smith: "Time running down on S.C., less than 5 to go the point guard can't find anyone, he fires the pass to the other gaurd who is blanketed by Frandsen, he launches a shot at the buzzer for the win......its Good!! OH NO!! I feel sick." Pilots fans had to be having flashbacks to Win Donald Wilson did that very thing to San Diego State on the road, but this was a game that meant so much to the Portland program. They will now fall a game behind Pepperdine with 1 more game vs San Diego before the all important West Coast Conference Tourny

San Diego Toreros (2-21) At Portland Pilots (21-5)
The Pilots had recently thrown away all their hopes and dreams of winning the West Coast Conference regular season title, but now they were a bubble team for the NCAA tourny so every win they could muster up would help. The Pilots played the worst team in the conference on senior night and the seniors didn't disappoint. The Pilots first three baskets were all shots from beyond the arch. 8 early points by Senior Adam Quick guided the Pilots to a 13-6 lead. It wasn't until 5:38 remaining in the first half that Donald Wilson got his first points of the game. He had been rejected twice on dunk attempts, but despite the 3rd leading scorer in the country not scoring the Pilots still went into the half up 8 points. The Toreros had also held up Adam Quick to just 1 assists in the first half, but the second half was a whole different story. The Pilots came out flying with 2 seperate 7-0 runs which elevated the lead to 18. The lead would quickly grow to 23 as the Pilots ran away with this one. With 4 min. to play Donald Wilson notched his 3rd double-double of the season as the lead stayed in the 20s. With 1:29 left in th game Coach Doherty subbed out his seniors to a standing ovation from the loyal Pilot fans. The Pilots notched their 22nd win of the season as they head into the conference tournament with the no. 2 seed and they'll play St. Mary's Gaels in the opening round. This is Bob Smith live for Channel 4 news. The Portland Pilots finished the regular season 22-5 and are looking to do so damage where it matters most. Coach Doherty is getting prepared to answer questions at the Pilots team press conference...we now send u live to the feed
Reporter #1: Coach, its been widely said that u guys are on the bubble, how many wins do u think it will take to get u guys into the big dance?
Coach: Well, I know this it will take 3 wins for us to get in. Thats what we plan on doing to leave no doubt by winning the conference tourny.
Reporter #2: Whats the key for your team, in other words who, or what will dictate whether u can beat the Gonzagas, or the Pepperdines?
Coach: Ah, I would have to say when Casey Frandsen is shooting the ball well from outside, well maybe the whole team but in particular Casey, we are on top of our game.
Reporter #3 You guys play the Gaels for the third time, if the favorites win out in the first round, Your team will play the Zags yet again, do u think u have found the way to stop Blake Stepp yet?
Coach: haha, well first we'll concentrate on St. Mary's. As far as stopping Blake Stepp i'm not sure its possible, maybe if we get him to eat some bad food before the game and he gets montezuma's revenge in the game, we might have a chance of stopping him, but he could probably still make shots from the bathroom.. well I gotta go...Wish us luck

As has been the case so much in Pilot games this season early foul trouble hits one of the star players. This time its Adam Quick who picks up his 2nd foul just over a minute into the game. The game would stay close early and high scoring. Adam Quick would pick up his next foul with just under 10 minutes to go putting the Pilots in a bind. Coach Doherty boldly leaves Quick in and it pays dividends. After just 7 minutes of gametime, Quick has 5 points and 5 assists as the Pilots take a 9 point lead. The rest of the half would see the Pilots lead stay near 10 points, and would get their biggiest lead of 14 before the half. A basket by the Gaels before the half made the score 43-31 at halftime. At 13:18 remaining Quick burries a jumper putting the Pilots up 13 and giving him his 8th double-double on the season. The Gaels would get as close as 7 points with 7:52 to play, but just 2 mins later the lead was right back to 13. Semifinals Portland Pilots (23-5) vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs (17-11)
The Pilots start with a pair of steals the lead to transition baskets from Wilson, with Quick getting the assists on each. Blake Stepp continues his dominace vs the Pilots with 5 early points keeping the Zags close early at 8-7. Both teams start off well from the field, Wilson has 10 early points to answer Stepp's 8, but the game is tied at 14 with 9:33 to play. Eugene Jeter comes in off the bench and takes over. He bombs 2 threes and gets a layup to give the Pilots a 22-18 lead. At 5:30 to play the Pilots lead continues to grow as after a running jumper by #31 the Pilots lead 30-22. The Pilots lead woul grow to as many as 12, but Blake Stepp and his 11 1st half points would get as close as 5 points with less than a minute to go in the first half. Just when the game looked like it was gonna be close the Pilots ran off 6 unanswered points in the final minute to push the lead to 11 at halftime with the score 48-37. 2 more baskets from Adam Quick pushed the lead to 15 as the Pilots are playing perhalps their best ball of the season. The lead continues to grow as Quick nears his 9th double-double of the season and the lead grows past 20 points. The lead would go all the way up to 25 before the Zags would tear it down the like the Berlin wall. Even with 7:19 to go the game looked out of reach with the Pilots up 19 points. The Zags and in particular Blake Stepp refused to let their season slip away quietly. They had trimmed 6 more points off the lead, but with only 2 minutes left time was not on their side. After a basket by Jeter put it back up to 15, Blake Stepp nails his 7th three of the game cutting the lead to 12. Jeter would again answer this time from the foul line putting the Pilots up 14, but he was no match for Blake Stepp. Stepp buried another three cutting the lead down to 11. After a defensive stop by The zags that man again who was playing out of his mind dropped his 9th triple on the Pilots and his 37th point cutting the lead down to 8. Unfortunately for the Zags they were forced to foul and the one doing the fouling was the one doing all their scoring: Blake Stepp fouled out with 41 secs left to a Standing Ovation from both team's fans. Without Stepp the Zags couldn't get any closer and as the final buzzer went off, Adam Quick launched a full court bomb and nailed it putting the score at 94-81 as the Pilots will play Pepperdine in the West Coast Conference tournament Championship Game.

West Coast Conference Tourny Finals: Portland Pilots (24-5) vs. Pepperdine Waves (23-7)
As the sun shone brightly on the Leavey Center in Santa Clara, 2 teams shown brighter in the West Coast Tourny. The top 2 teams in the regular season would meet to determine who went to the big dance. Both teams were considered bubble teams so a loss wouldn't eliminated them from the big dance. The game would start with both teams defenses frustrating the others offenses. The Waves would take an early 8-7 lead, before 7 unanswered by the Pilots put them ahead 14-8 with 9:54 left in the half. Eugene Jeter would come in off the bench and score 6 pts and dish out 3 assists to give the Pilots a 10 point lead with 5:30 left in the half. However at the 4 minute mark that lead had been sliced and diced to just 3 points. Adam Quick's poor shooting from beyond the arch kept the Waves in at as w/ less than a minute to to the Pilots lead by 2 at 38-36. Quick was so 0 for 7 in the first half from 3pt land, all shots he has been known to make. Despite Quicks poor play the Pilots added 2 points to their lead to go up 4 at halftime. The waves draw level at 40 as the Pilots can't hit anything from 3 pt land, while the waves are red hot. the waves would take a small lead before donald Wilson would score 9 pts putting the Pilots back up 54-50 w/ 10:20 to play. Both defenses picked it up and super sub Karl Aaker stepped up again for the Pilots. Two timely threes from Karl put the Pilots ahead 69-61 w/ the finish line in sight with just over 5 minutes to play. 5 minutes is an eternity in basketball though and the Waves were not panicked. They took advantage of some sloopy passes by the Pilots and chipped away at the lead. with 2 minutes to go the 8 point lead was cut in half. After a J by the waves put them down 2, Quic penentrated the defense for the easy lay-in...but missed it!! The waves would score again w/ 55.6 left to tie the game. Adam Quick wouldn't be ratted by his terrible night. On the next possession he scored a pretty finger roll to put the Pilots up 79-77. the Pilots would stop the waves and look to put the game away. However, Quick couldn't hit the J, but Freshman forward Chris Jackson grabs the offensive rebound and forces the Waves to start hacking. The Waves would put Frandsen on the line, and it was a wise decision by the Waves. Frandsen would miss the bonus free throw giving the Waves life. Pepperdine pushes it up and looks to have thrown it away as the an errant pass is sailing right to Chris Jackson, but it goes off his knee and out of bounds with 7.7 to play. Paul Westphaul calls a Timeout to discuss what to do, while Coach Doherty tells his guys not to foul. The Waves inbound the ball, find their small forward from 12 feet who rattles home a shot to tie it at 79 with still 3.0 seconds left. Coach Doherty would call a Timeout and draw up a play for Donald Wilson to get open Right? Wrong, he found a play for Adam Quick to get a good look, and it looked real good, but the shot halfway in the basket heartbreakingly goes right back out of the basket and we head to overtime in the finals. Pepperdine had been given a 2nd chance and they looked to capitilize on it jumping out to a 3 point lead. The Pilots did what they did all season and thats step it up in the clutch. The Pilots would answer everything the Waves had and would take their own 3 point lead w/ 2:12 to play. The Pilots lead would grow to 9, but with less than a minute to the lead was 5 points. The Pilots had the ball and shot clock running way down as the man that struggled all game for the Pilots put the championship away. Adam Quick got open behind a screen and popped a long three to put the Pilots in the big dance. The win would be the Pilots second West Coast Conference Tournament Championship in school history.

Regular Season Award Show
The National Player of the year is Jamar Smith of Maryland.
The other 2 awards that represent National player of the year went to Syracuse players Gerry McNamara and Hakim Warrick.
Syracuse also walked away with coach of the year as Jim Boehim only lost one game all season long.
As Far as the West Coast Conference honors, The Pilots walked away with a few but not nearly as many expected. In a complete disgrace Donald Wilson walked away with no awards, not even an all conference team award despite dominating the conference. He would get some national attention as he made the all-scorer team. Adam Quick would also be slighted only making 3rd team all conference. He would make the national all-assist team, and would be named best defender in the West Coast Conference, which is another one that should have gone to Wilson. Coach Shane Doherty would pick up the West Coast Conference Coach of the year. When asked to comment he said this:"Well its a great honor to be recognized as the Coach of the year, but I feel terrible that Donald Wilson didn't get anything. It just goes to show you that we still have work to do in gaining respect even in our own conference."
As for the NCAA tournament the Portland Pilots would get a #10 seed from the committe, which seemed fair, but would delt a low blow as their 7th seeded opponent would be MICHIGAN STATE.
This is Bob Smith from Milwaukee, WI hanging with the Pilots as they prepare for the game of their life, we send in back to u in the studio.
Thanks Bob good luck to the Pilots. In other news a Feminist Group has.......

Good Luck in your dance lessons......that's a tough, tough draw for a first round game. But...actually you getting a #10 seed is very decent.
(It's a shame that Michigan State would settle for a #7 seed though)
But, hey....you made the dance..and know your partner...now you just need to take the lead on the dance floor.

NCAA First Round: #10 Portland Pilots (25-5) vs. Michigan State Spartans (19-9)
Michigan State would have a basic home court advantage seeing the opening round was being played in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Portland Pilots have shown all season long that home court means absolutly nothing to them and they would look to show it one more time. The Spartans led by an outstanding gaurd in Chris Hill took charge early on as they didn't miss to many shots. They started 10-14 from the field taking a 29-19 lead. The Pilots refused to give in without a fight, as two consecutive three pointers cut the lead to 4. Just when it looked like the Pilots were getting back in it Chris Hill buried a 3 and on the next play down the court for the Spartans got a 3 pt play the old-fashioned way as the lead went back to 10. The Spartans would close out the first half with a comfortable 11 point lead as Coach Izzo had to be happy with his team's performance. "Well I was pleased with our team's play in the first, but if it wasn't for Chris Hill and his, What? 20 points, oh 21 points we wouldn't have been in such good shape" remarked Coach Izzo on the first half. The Second half saw the other star pg on the game take over as Adam Quick made several tough shots to reduce the lead to 5 as Quick had 16 points with still 10 minutes left in the second half. After a defensive stop Casey Frandsen recieved an outlet pass, pulled up and nailed a trifecta to make it 55-53. Unfortunately for the Pilots on the next play Wilson picked up his 4th foul forcing Coach Doherty to bring in the reserves. The spartans pushed the lead right back to 6, but even the reserves of the Pilots showed great character. A 3 by #31 got the Pilots as close as they had been since the early moments of the game trailing only by 1 point with 7:25 left. The Spartans would score their next trip down, but instead of hustling back defensivly they celebrated and tried to get the fans into the game which left Karl Aaker wide open on the wing for a three which he nailed tieing the game at 64. The game would see-saw back and forth the next several minutes, as Karl Aaker continued to lead the reserves. Karl Aaker would foul out though, but the referes were unaware that it was his 5th foul. He would stay on the court and play another minute getting Wilson some more rest time, before Coach Izzo finally got the refs attention and forcing Aaker out of the game. The Spartans held a 1 point lead with 3:11 left. After some great defense by the Pilots including a number of blocks and steals over the next 2 minutes the Pilots had a 3 point lead with the ball and a minute to go. The spartens went to an aggressive man-to-man defense and forced some tough passes. Adam Quick managed to get free like he did in the Championship Game of the West Coast Tournament in overtime to take another huge three...and just like the Championship game he made it putting the Pilots up 6 points. The Pilots would hang on to the huge upset 80-75.

....You're watching ESPNnews were the Portland Pilots have just ousted the Michigan State Spartans in the first round. As promised we take you out to the post game press conference. At the mike is Coach Doherty for the victorious Portland Pilots.
Reporter: Coach, You may be unaware of this, but so far in the tournament all the games have gone to the favorites except this one, your team is the only cinderella left, do u enjoy the cinderella title?
Coach: Well, whatever u want to call us, I enjoy being in the tournament after playing Michigan State. I can't explain why all the favorites are winning, but then again aren't they supposed to?
Reporter: Chris Hill scored 35 points yet u guys still won, this is not the first time your team has allowed gaurds to go crazy on you and won, talk about that some.
Coach: I didn't know he had that many, for some reason the top players, especially gaurds bring their A-game vs us. For many reasons our team overcomes those great players and finds a way to win.
Reporter: Your next opponent is a Big-12 opponent the no. 2 seeded Oklahoma Sooners. There have been some rumors that Baylor has been thinking about hiring you, could this be a preview of a future rivalry between u and Coach Sampson?
Coach: (Chuckle) I can tell you this, Baylor has contacted me, but I told them i'm not interested in taking their job, After what happened last year there I'm not sure they should even have a program, but thats beside the point. The Sooners have a great team and a great coach. We'll do what we do best and thats play our hearts out, I dont know whats going to happen but I know it'll be a good game.
.....Well despite much widespread reports about Coach Doherty leaving the Pilots it appears he has denied the report that he is going to Baylor. Up next for the Pilots is the no. 2 seed Oklahoma Sooners who trounced their first round opponent Holy Cross.

2nd round Portland Pilots (26-5) vs Oklahoma Sooners (25-5)
The First round game for the Pilots against Michigan State saw both teams come out red hot from the field. This game was more defensive as Oklahoma is a better defensive team than Michigan State. After 4 minutes of play the game was tied at 10. the next 4 minutes would see the Pilots open up a 6 point lead thanks to 5 points and 3 assists from sub Eugene Jeter. The Sooners would fall behind by 10 points before they woke up and made a full-scale assualt on the Pilots lead. By the 2:20 mark the sooners had regained the lead only to see the Pilots yet again push it to 7 points with less than a minute to go. The Sooners would chip 2 more off the lead before the half making it 41-36 at halftime. In the first round the Pilots were down 11 at halftime and came back to win so they had to like their chances. "I was satisfied with our play in the first, our bench really played well for us, if we would have gotten more out of our starters we'd a been in better shape" said Coach Doherty. The seconds starts with Oklahoma regaining its form as they take a 4 point lead, but super sub Karl Aaker would immidiately bomb a three and Adam Quick would put the Pilots back ahead after a lay-up. At the 7 min mark Oklahoma takes its biggest lead of the game as they lead by 5 points. The Pilots take a play out of the Utah Jazz playbook when a pick-n-roll leaves Jeter open for 3 cutting the lead back to 2. Fast-Forward to 3:30 remaining were Oklahoma's star pg picks up his 4th foul as Frandsen gets a chance for a 3 point play. As was the story of the night the free throw was no good and Ok led by 2. However, Donald Wilson grabbed the o-reb on the play and would put it back up in drawing the game level at 70. A pair of defensive stops sees neither team score until Wilson is called for a reach sending OK's PG to the line for 2 shots where he makes 1 of 2 putting the Sooners up 71-70 w/ 2:17 left. The Pilots miss fail to convert on their next 2 possessions. OK couldn't do anything with it either as it looks like both teams are feeling the heat. Oklahoma would put more heat on the Pilots with a fadeway J putting them up 3. The Pilots would look to immidiately answer with the ball in their best players hands. Wilson beat everyone down court, but instead of dunking it he pulls up for the short floater and clangs it with OK getting the rebound. The sooners would get a trip to the line on the next possession and make both free throws going up 75-70 with 54.8 to play. Quick would answer w/ a deuce with 45.5 left. OK would stupidly jack up a quick 3 and miss it and didn't get back on defense as Quick would get another easy 2 bringing the Pilots to within 1 and only 31.6 left. the intense Pilots D would force a tournover and the Pilots would look to steal away with a win. Everyone knew the ball was going to Wilson in the final seconds, so Coach Sampson put his best defender on him. As Wilson tried to shake him the ball was knocked loose..the loose ball went to Frandsen who was fouled by OK's pg w/ 6.6 left, which was his 5th foul of the game. Frandsen would miss the first free throw. Visibly shaken, he lauches up the second one, it rattles around...and goes through to tied it. OK has no timeout left so they quickly throw it up the floor, but oh no! Casey Frandsen commits a reaching foul. OK to the line. They would make both free throws with just 3 seconds left. Coach Doherty showing faith in Casey Frandsen or great hatred gave him a chance to atone and be the hero as the inbounds pass went to him and heaved a three for the win, but it was no good and the season is over the Pilots.

This is Brian Kinny for ESPNNews, After some great second round action at the NCAA tournament, the Oklahoma Sooners have defeated the Portland Pilots 77-75 in a great game. We head to the great state of Wisconsin where Coach Doherty has already started his press conference:
Coach: Well, I dono, its tough to have the season end with the other team winning at the line, but thats the way it is. As for Casey he's obviously dejected, but he'll get over it, he'll be fine, it'll just take some time.
Reporter: At the start of the season u said u're goal was to win 17 games, based on that do u view u're first season as a success, should the school, the alumni and the players view at as a success?
Coach: That's a good question, before I even knew the guys or met them I made that statement. Looking back on the season We had some big wins over Duke, Michigan State, Gonzaga, and Pepperdine....twice, ah I'm satisfied with it because our players left it all on the floor, they couldn't have given more effort. If you ask them their not satisfied with the season, and thats understandable, and that makes me very happy. The alumni and the school are very happy that we even won half our games, so yeah I would say even though we didn't win it all it was a successful season.
Reporter: Do you think Oklahoma has enough to go the whole way? Or do u even care who goes the whole way?
Coach: Ha! When looking at some of the other teams left, Oklahoma isn't as talented, but then again we're not talented enough to be in this tournament and we made it this far so anythings possible. And yes I care who wins, I'm a huge basketball fan and a historian of sorts.
Reporter: Now that the season is over you would be considered one of the hottest coaching prospects, Do you expect this to effect your recruits next year and will you leave the Pilots?
Coach: Well as far as recruiting we're going to go after size, I would hope it would have some affect but I won't know till everyone's signed. As far as me leaving the Pilots this year, Let me put this story to rest. I will not leave Portland until I have reached all my goals that I have set out before I was even offered the job here. Well thanks boys, Cya next year, and I mean it!
That was Coach Doherty of the Pilots, he guided the Pilots to their first ever NCAA tournament win this year, but came up short today. We now send u to Oklahoma's head coach Cal......

Well folks its that time of year again. Its time for another season of Portland Pilot basketball. Coach, I know you can't wait until the season starts, but first can u tell us a little about the team this year.
Coach: Well, i'd be happy to Bob. We lost 4 very good seniors last year that will be very hard to replace. Adam Quick was 3rd in the country last year in assists and was an all-conference player. This year we're looking to Eugene Jeter to carry the load at pg, but we also have a very capable freshman in Robert Lampley who will give us strong minutes. If Robert would gain some weight and work on his shooting a bit he would probably be the starter here, but for now thats Jeter's job. At SG we got Mr. Everything Donald Wilson returning, what more can i say there. At PF we return Patrick Galos who has really worked hard to improve after his achillies injury last year, and we're all happy to see him back. At SF and C we have 2 freshmen starters who are 2 huge men. 7'4 Charles Hartmen and 6'10 Bradley Hunter are gonna help us so much inside, they make me very excited over the next 4 years.
Smith: Well thank you coach for that info on the starters, lets let the audience see the starters and the rest of the players.

Now Coach, this year we're actually getting some respect nationally from both the media and the coaches. The Pilots and ranked 24th nationally in both polls which shows how far we've come in one year. However coach u scheduled one of the most difficult schedules in the country, care to tell us about it?
Coach: Well, rankings don't mean much, but the players take alot of pride in it so I tried to get us some attention this year, also we have a young team this year so some tough early games would prepare them for the conference season, where its the most important. This season we've have visits to Maryland, UAB, Marquette, Oregon, and Xavier. Not only that but coming the Leavey center to face us this year will be Oklahoma State, St. Josephs, and our ole nemesis Boise State. In total we will play 6 teams that are ranked in the preseason top 25. Heres the schedule.

Boise State Broncos at #24 Portland Pilots
The season opener was the same opponent the Pilots opened last year against. Things have changed since these two teams opened the season in the Leavey Center last fall. The Pilots are one of the hottest stocks in all of college basketball, while Boise State is relying on their football program to carry the bacon. The Broncos did win last year's season opener so their might be some fireworks in this one. New starting PG Eugene Jeter starts off the season w/ a bang with 2 long field goals, one on the line, while the other was behind the line to get the first 5 points of the game. The Pilots in the offseason recruited alot of size to intimidate, block shots, and rebound. The Broncos showed early on they didn't care as they continually hit shots over the big freshman keeping the score close at 13-12. The Pilots size would take over as Hartman went to work on the offensive glass tonight with 3 straight rebounds as he helped the Pilots score 7 unanswered points. Hartman has 9 rebounds in the first half, but the scoring for the Pilots has been spread around. Karl Aaker hits a jumpter to put the Pilots up 30-21 midway through as the Pilots beging to take complete control of the game. 5 more points from Hunter and Jeter would help the lead grow to 14. The Pilots doubled the Broncos rebounding total in the first half, and almost had as many offensive rebounds as the Broncos had total rebounds. The Pilots also showed that it wasn't going be the Donald Wilson show this year as everyone got in the scoring. The Pilots came out of the break and went back to work inside. Hartman threatens to get a double-double on o-rebs and points, nevermind defensive rebounds. The Pilots would pull away in the second half as their size proved way to much for the Broncos with the Pilots winning their first game of the year 82-58.

#20 Portland Pilots (1-0) at #2 Maryland Terapins (1-0)
In a matchup of two of the best teams in the country, both teams knew they key to winning was going to be inside play. The Pilots were looking for the second straight win over a top 10 ACC powerhouse as they defeated Duke last year at Duke so this was nothing new to them. Instead of playing a zone to limit the inside play of the Pilots, the terapins opened in a man-to-man to the delight of Coach Doherty. The pilots immidiately go to the key match up of the game which is freshman Bradley Hunter vs Nick Caner-medley and let Bradley go to work. Hunter takes advantage of his size and scores 8 early points before taking a breather. Despite his great work the score is just 14-12 with 10:39 remaining in the first. The terps would fall behind by 8 points on their homecourt before going on a 10-0 run to re-take the lead, but this also brought Hunter back into the game. The Terps would hold the duo of Harman and Wilson to a combined 7 pts and 3 rebs in the first half, but had no answer for Hunter, and reserve guard #31 who combined for 22 pts and 8 rebs as they powered the Pilots to a 2 point halftime lead at 39-37. The no. 2 ranked terapins come out strong as they open a 3 pt lead but the Pilots quickly answer with a 3 point play to tie at 44. Maryland would continue their strong play and take a 5 point lead, which would be their largest of the night at 9:50 left. After a pair of missed close shots from Wilson, a dunk and a layup, the Terpaints lead 61-56 with just 6 minutes left. As seems to be the case for the Pilots when the game is nearing a close they always step it up. The Pilots would come back over the next 2 minutes to take the lead 64-63 as the Maryland fans are getting antsy. After a defensive stop Eugene Jeter sent the run to 9 points and the lead to 4 as he bombed home the first three of the game for either team with under 3:30 to play in the game. In fact the 3pt shooting was so terrible (1-19) that both coaches after the game refused to allow their shooters on the bus, but had to eventually. Maryland couldn't make clutch free throws either as they missed 3 in a row down the stretch, but they wouldn't go down without a fight. The terps had cut the lead to 2 and had a glorious opportunity to draw level with just over a minute left, but Maryland's center missed a lay-up as the terapins can't finish any of their chances. The Pilots would score immidiately on the other end and stop the Terapins the rest of the game and hang on and win another tough road game in an ACC building 77-69.

Oklahoma State Cowboys (0-1) at #17 Portland Pilots (2-0)
After returning home to Portland from a glorious victory in Maryland the Pilots were full of high spirits, but knew they had another tough game in Oklahoma State visiting the Leavey Center. The Pilots would get off to a great start with an immidiate basket by Hunter who drew a foul on the play as well. He would miss the free throw, but big Charlie Hartman would grab the putback and put it back in for a 4-0 start. The Pilots would reel off 8 points in the first minute of action as they looked poised to take down another powerhouse. The cowboys would eventually settle into their offense, but still couldn't stop the Pilots as 8-11 from the field indicates how on fire the Pilots were to start. Unfortunately for the Pilots they were committing a lot of fouls on the Cowboys which gave Eddie Sutton's boys hope. By the 10:13 mark the 2 leading scores for the Pilots, Wilson and Hunter, had 3 fouls a piece. The Pilots continued to shoot well and look unbeatable until at the 7:40 point of the half, Hartman was ran over and fell to the floor hard. Everyone feared for the worst and Hartman was rushed to the hospital for x-rays on his right arm. Despite the foul trouble and no Hartman the Pilots would take a 15 point lead with 5:19 after a basket by Karl Aaker. The Pilots would commit 14 team fouls in the first half and send the Cowboys to the line 21 times and were still winning by over 20 points at halftime. the second half saw the lead continue to grow as at one point it reached 34 points, but the cowboys would make it somewhat respectable as they lost 96-70. The story for the Pilots was 6 guys scoring in double figures and the team shooting over 62% from the field. After the game Coach Doherty enlightened us all on the injury to Charles Hartman."The Status on Charlie is that he tore a ligament in his arm. Meaning he'll be out for the season, I'm sorry to rain on our victory like that, but...dam..injuries are apart of the game and we're gonna have to step it up."said a somber coach Doherty.

#17 Portland Pilots (3-0) at #10 UAB Blazers (2-0)
After disposing of the big 12 powerhouse OK State cowboys the Pilots head to the deep south for a match-up between 2 teams on the rise in the nations eyes. The Blazers main focus has to be to eliminate or come as close as possible to shutting down super-frosh Bradley Hunter. Early on it becomes clear that the blazers can stop Hunter from scoring, but Hunter can just as easily stop them from scoring as he gets 3 blocked shots in the first 3 minutes of the game. The Blazers come out cold shooting 5-13 from the field, while the Pilots not a whole lot better hold a 16-11 advantage. The blazers would go 6 for their next 10 from the field as they gained their first lead at the 4:25 mark. After a jam by Blazer freshmen Michah Wallace the blazers have their largest lead of the game at 32-26. The Pilots would answer with 2 jumpers by Wilson and Jeter cutting the lead to 1. At halftime it seemed fitting the two teams would be tied and thats where they were with the score 37 a piece. The game stays close to start the second as after a fast break by Hunter the Pilots lead by 1 with 12 minutes remaining. However, Hunter quickly gets in foul trouble and is forced to the bench. The Blazers quickly took a 3 point lead, only to see the Pilots go on a 10-1 taking a 54-48 lead with the run being sparked by 5 points from reserve gaurd #31. Moments later with Hunter back in the game he is called for a cheap blocking foul, which sees coach Doherty go nuts on the sidelines, and unbelieviably not get a techincal foul called on him, which really upset the UAB faithful. Hunter's final numbers on the night were respectable for only playing 12 minutes of game time: 8 points 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 blocks. UAB would score 7 points in a row after the lead was pushed to 8 and to reduce it to 1 with just under 8 minutes to play. The lead would stay at 1 with neither team giving in for the next 3 and half minutes until w/ 3:31 a 3 point play by UAB tied the game at 69. Jeter would respond w/ his 5th trifecta of the night on the next play. After a defensive stop Jeter would find Wilson open for three, who swishes the open look putting the Pilots up 6. The lead would continue to grow out of hand down the stretch as after that 3 point play by UAB tying the game at 69 they didn't score the rest of the game. Behind the backcourt duo of Wilson and Jeter the Pilots win another battle on the road with the final being 87-69.

#21 St. Joseph's Hawks (3-2) at #14 Portland Pilots (4-0)
Another day, another ranked opponent for the Portland Pilots. This time its the A-10 powerhouse St. Josephs Hawks led by Delonte West and Pat Carrol. The game is close early as both teams open up red hot from the field, the Pilots open up 7-11 from the field, despite 1 for 4 from Wilson and still trail by 4 thanks to three point shooting and free throws from the Hawks. the Hawks would build on their lead as the Hot shooting of Pat Carrol (5-6 from 3) would give them a 7 point lead near the halfway point of the first half. The next 2 minutes would see the Pilots trim 3 points off the lead which seemed to be the story of the night trying to trim the lead. the Pilots would get as close as 42-39, before the Hawks pushed the lead back up to 6 at half with the score 48-42 in a high scoring affair. "Well in the locker room, I stressed to my guys to be more aggressive in challenging shots and especially hitting the glass, but that didn't develop like I hoped with them grabbing 6 more boards than us tonight." said coach Doherty. The Second would see the game slow down and see the Pilots get as close as 1 point before St. Joe's would again push the lead out, this time to 7. Five in a row from Jeter made it 54-52 with 11:16 left as the Pilots fans were deafening in the Leavey Center."Those kids for Portland tonight were awesome, I've never been here before, but thats as loud as any of gym's in philly." remarked Coach Martelli of St. Joe's. To erase Jeters 5-0 run the Hawks got 5 points on one trip, how u ask let me explain. Pat Carrol hit a fade-away three with the faintist of contact from Bradley Hunter, he would precede to miss the free throw, but the Hawks would grab the rebound and slam it home to expand the lead back to 7. Poor Ft shooting (11-19) from the Hawks would allow the Pilots to yet again get back in the game as the lead was reduced to 3 with 7:19 left. A 3 point play by reserve and i mean reserve freshman Dean Draughan gives the Pilots their first lead since very early on. However at 3:33 mark St. Joes had regained their lead 73-71 in a tight game, but the Pilots would not go away as Wilson got open for a slam...he missed it again! A sloppy pass by Delonte West, who played well all night, led to a loose ball which was picked up By Wilson who attoned for his mistake with a rim-shattering slam to tie it at 73. A pair of defensive stops by the Pilots would give time for Jeter to find Galos open in the lane for the point blank shot, which he easily makes making it 75-73, but the Hawks would get a timely jumper from freshman Bobby Woodard from the top of the key to tied it at 75 w/ 90 secs left. After a stop another Freshman for the Hawks would score as this time it was Jack Arnold with the jumper with 1:09 left as the bench exploded after it went in. Jeter would respond with a lay-in on the other end but the possession took enough time that the Hawks could take the final shot. The Hawks showed great patience in the final 30 seconds as they passed up several good looks, but with 5 seconds left Delonte West found a look he couldn't pass up as he burried a jumper as the senior leadership of the Hawks proved to much on that play. Coach Doherty has shown that he has no real go-to-guy in the clutch, or at least no pattern so this time it was Eugene Jeter's chance to be a star, but he couldn't hit the shot as the Hawks improve to 4-2 and the Pilots get their first loss of the season, fittingly at home.
POTG Delonte West 16 pts 3 assists 3 rebs and 2 steals
Key Player Eugene Jeter 14 pts 6 assists
Key Stat 3pt: Hawks 7-12 58% Pilots 1-10 10% Hawks shot 17 more FT's

Oregon State (6-0) at #14 Portland Pilots (4-1)
Don't be fooled Pilots fans, the Beavers may be 6-0 but their only quality win was over Boston College, a team having a down year. The Beavers get exactly what they want at the start, foul trouble for Donald Wilson, he picks up 2 fouls in the first 90 seconds as Coach Doherty throws his arms up in exasparation. After having a non-impactful game vs St. Joe's Bradley Hunter seemed determined to to have an impact on this one. He scored 6 early points and almost had as many rebounds in the first few minutes (3) as he did in the game vs St. Joe's (4). The Beavers showed early that their record was not a fluke as their defense held the Pilots to 5-15 start while they were shooting over 50% which gave them an 18-12 lead. Everyone knew that the beavers couldn't compete with the Pilots and it soon become a fact when the Pilots ran off 11 points in a matter of minutes to take a 23-20 lead. The Pilots lead would grow to 8, but the Beavers would slim it down to 5 at halftime. The Pilots would quickly take the game to the Beavers in the second half, as Coach Doherty must have lit a fire under those guys. The gap would grow to 11 as Hunter and Jeter each nailed a trifecta. The Pilots would push the lead all the way to 18 before the Beavers would stop the run. The Rest of the game would stay in the teens, as the Beavers even got the lead to the Pre-teens at 12, but couldn't sustain their run. The Pilots pulled away in this one 81-60.
POTG Bradley Hunter 23 pts 10 rebs 5 blocks 3 assists
Key Player Eugene Jeter 17 pts 9 assists

#14 Portland Pilots (5-1) at #6 Marquette Golden Eagles (2-0)
For the third time this year the Pilots were heading on the road to take on a top 10 opponent. So far, So good as they defeated Maryland and UAB, but their opponent this time was not going to take the Pilots lightly. The Eagles frustrated the high-octane Pilot offense forcing them to miss their first 5 shots before a Wilson slam. Both teams struggled early as the score was 6-3 after that Wilson slam in favor of the Eagles. The teams would start to heat up as 4 consecutive makes by the Pilots would draw them within 2 at 17-15 near the halfway mark of the half. Marquette would go on a 7-0 run to push the lead to 9 and didn't look back for the rest of the half. Their outside shooting (4-5 from three) left the cold Pilots shooters (0-9 from three) in the distance as they cruised to a 43-27 halftime lead, the biggiest deficit of the year for the Pilots. The second half would only get worse for the Pilots as the lead would grow and grow. With 6 minutes left the Eagles lead was almost 30, just 1 point away when the Pilots finally decided to show some pride. An 11-0 run by the Pilots got them down 16 with 3:55 to play. The Pilots would get as close as 10, but would end up losing it by that 16 points, with the final 78-62. Coach Doherty had this to say about his guys after the game:"Oh man that was tough, we couldn't hit anything, Jeter went what 1 for 12 from 3 pt land, and all good looks, ones he can make. And those guys couldn't miss. They just handed our bleep to us tonight. Unfortuanetly we had an off night against the best team we've played in all the time I've been here, oh well time to get ready for SMS." Speaking of SMS this will be the first annual fan appreciation night where tickets are half off and one lucky fan will get a shot at $10,000 with a half-court shot during halftime. That'll be this Sunday as the #14 Pilots look to rebound after a massacre at the hands of the Golden Eagles from Marquette

Man....that's a bad time to have an off-shooting night against a team like Marquette (in their house..no less).
But, sometimes we all need to be humbled as a team...so we can atone for it later on down the road. Especially when it really counts...come Dance fever in March!!!!!!!!
Great legacy.....keep 'em comin'

Well folks i know my dynasty is probably forgotten, but to those of u who were wondering what happened let me fill u in. First of all I got a job so that reduced my time to play and get on the internet as well. I finished out the second season with the Pilots going undefeated in the WCC and making it all the way to the elite 8 before losing to North Carolina, I was excited to start the third season because of some recruiting size and everyone returning healthy. I decided to enter the pre-season nit ty and well that really messed me up, i made it to the finals but i couldn't play the game, i was forced to play the next game in the season. Whoever my opponent was the game had a glitch, the game froze after the completion of every game, basically ruining my dynasty with what was going to be a national champion caliber team, size wise. Well now I'm playing with UALR and in my first season there I won a national championship, but I didn't play anyone good on the way to the finals, so I think i'll move on to another game to master, no slider adjustment can make it real enough, so thx for those that paid attention and good luck with your legacies
