Russia's Ilya Kovalchuk was the top vote getter in fan balloting for the 2004 NHL All-Star Game and Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom will be making his sixth-straight NHL All-Star Game appearance, but the change in All-Star format from North America vs. the World back to a East vs. West format has changed the demographics a bit.
In all, 13 European players will be among the All-Stars in Minnesota. Six European forwards, headed by the New York Rangers' Jaromir Jagr, a five-time Art Ross Trophy winner, populate the Eastern Conference team while two forwards, four defensemen and a goalie dot the Western Conference squad.
