Apparently my wish is close to coming true. Negotiations are on-going to organize a 12-16 countries, baseball tournament. This tournament would take place in mid to late March of '05 (after Spring Training). Teams would be comprised of the best of the best of each country. If you don't believe me, see it for yourself on espn.com ("Spanning The Globe", on the MLB page).

I have actually done this year after year in my baseball video games, dating back to about '97 (Triple Play 'til '01 - WSBaseball thereafter)

I placed all the Dominican players on the Red Sox (has the largest Dominican fan-base in MLB), Puerto Ricans on the Expos (they actually play in P.R. during the season), Venezuelans on the Mariners (already have F. Garcia, C. Guillen), Mexicans on the Rangers, Japanesse players on the Dodgers, & last but not least the Americans on the Yankees (get it?lol). Here are a couple of the rosters (25 players):

Dominican Republic (Red Sox)
Lineup:--------------------------- ---------Starting Rotation:
C Miguel Olivo-----------------------------Pedro Martinez (3x Cy Young)
1B David Ortiz-----------------------------Bartolo Colon
2b Alfonso Soriano------------------------Odalis Perez
SS Miguel Tejada (1x MVP)---------------Ramon Ortiz
3B Aramis Ramirez------------------------Miguel Batista
RF Vladimir Guerrero
CF Sammy Sosa (1x MVP)
LF Albert Pujols
DH Manny Ramirez

Bench:--------------------------------------Bullpen:
OF Moises Alou-----------------------------Felix Heredia
OF Juan Encarnacion---------------------- Guillermo Mota
2B Luis Castillo-----------------------------Damaso Marte
SS Rafael Furcal----------------------------Felix Rodriguez
C Alberto Castillo---------------------------Armando Benitez
-----------------------------------------------CL:Octavio Dotel
*Moises Alou was actually born in the U.S. (Atlanta, GA), but players have the right to play for the team from which they are truly from. My guess is he would like to represent the Dominican team. Question is, what team would A-Rod play for? (Things that make you go "Hmmm")

U.S.A. (Yankees)
Lineup:--------------------------------------Starting Rotation:
C Mike Piazza-------------------------------Randy Johnson (5x Cy Young)
1B Todd Helton------------------------------Mark Prior
2B Jeff Kent (1x MVP)----------------------Curt Schilling
SS Alex Rodriguez (1x MVP)---------------Roy Oswalt
3B Scott Rolen------------------------------Barry Zito (1x Cy Young)
RF Gary Sheffield
CF Jim Edmonds
LF Chipper Jones (1x MVP)
DH Barry Bonds (6x MVP)

Bench:---------------------------------------Bullpen:
1B Jason Giambi (1x MVP)-----------------Roy Halladay (1x Cy Young)
OF Lance Berkman--------------------------Jason Isringhausen
OF Garrett Anderson------------------------Mike MulderTroy Percival
SS Nomar Garciaparra----------------------Troy Percival
C Paul Loduca------------------------------Billy Wagner
--------------------------------------------CL:John Smoltz[/color]

I will post the Puerto Rican and Venezuelan teams later.

I did my best to find more Puerto Rican Major League pitchers, but could not find any more. If there was an actual World Cup, I'm sure they'll find some talent back in "Borinquen".

I will post the Mexico & Japan rosters at some time in the future. But you guys should make these teams and play wiith them. It's a whole lot of fun, very interesting & surreal to see all those players on the same team. Peace & Play Ball!!!

Sorry I did not respond quicker to your ?'s. I had actually posted this on the VIDEO GAME discussions forum.
As for your Gagne ?, I think he will ultimately be the one who decides who he plays for, whether Canada has a team or not. A-Rod (ref. to espn.com - True 'World Series could happen) & Moises Alou will have to make a similar decision. Whether to play for the country in which they were born (U.S.), or play for the country from where their family is ORIGINALLY from (Dominican Republic).

No, you "back" them up with opinion. There is a difference.
