Did you ever notice how in this game you can't score on a wrist shot? Is that realistic? Not really. So we do an smove here and there to combat that. Maybe more than some like. Maybe learning how to defend the smove should be number one priority. Let's not complain about it and learn how to defend it well instead. Than when you encounter someone good at defending it you need to resort to 1-timers. "Ooooh that's not sim"!. Good god! Why can't we all just play the game?
Iv'e been playing video hockey since it got big in '91 with Genisis. The same-move(smove) has been in the game since than. Defend it or be scored upon, that's the bottom line. People score that way against me all the time and I don't post how they cheat casue tey use the same move over and over. As for droppers to get a win, I'll save that for another post.

This post has been here for 13 days and still not one reply. I though surely, hey my name's not surley, this would spawn off several pages of people's posts in return.

:? i beg to differ on the one fact ive been playing hockey games since that crazy one on the NES,nhlpa was the first hockey game for the 16bit era im pretty sure. NHL94 is my fav w/ NHL96/98 a close second for the genesis. Anyway the smove really didnt exist in those games...a Cmove and cross crease move have existed since the early genesis days but not really the smove. Besides EA made those nhl games not sega.
By the way you can score on stuff besides a wrist shot offline, ive done it on HOF, just play w/ the sliders. As for online play on rookie or amateur and youll see you can easily score w/o 1-T or smoves.

Ahh Ballhandler, youv'e come a long way. If only my Mom could see you now.
Suppman, I played those Genisis hockey games too, since day one. They did have the smove as well, only you didn't need to do quite the sweeping motion as you do now. It was very similar and we used to call it "same move", because we kept scoring on the same move. Ahh the memories.

the only time someone should be able to score a S-move on you is when they are on a breakaway or if you have a defensive breakdown. if people can score s-moves on your regularly then you need to work on your defense.
i hate how people complain about being scored on by the same goal over, and over, and over. you should be able to defend it after it being done to you a few times.

Play daleafs then come back and tell me how you defended him. Actually it's been awhile, so I don't know if he still plays the same anymore. When someone has a move down to perfection that is a money move, its hard to defend it 1000 times in a very fast paced (Speed over 5) game.

I remember that i had this game, i think it was called NHL Hockey (i think the first of the series from EA) and the copyright might have been 1993 for my PC (386/33 in case you might have asked). You could score with the same deke move over and over again. basically i would pass the puck back to my two defensemen and then up to my forward, skate up and score so i got a goal and two assists on the play!
i don't remember the exact stats, but they were something like this...alyn mcauley was the BIG call up from the minors, and scored >160 goals, along with richer who scored 140. Bruce driver and scott stevens each had over 100 assists. brodeur had an astounding 73 wins!

Daleafs still plays but not that much. His game speed is still high but doesnt use the smove anymore. He plays fair, plus there alot of other people who use the smove like XBONK. Why play a espn hockey when your going to play cheap or pause it on people when they have the puck. Oilerfan quit because of people playing cheap (I think ,thats what I heard).

I didn't quit, but I'm not playing that often anymore because of the number of drop/win players out there.

Thanks for the info, I don't play that often too because of the people who drop but still get wins.

Dude, using the smove is not cheap. If you scored on it often, you just can't defend it. The problem lies with your inablility to stop it, not the fact that it's cheap.
