FINAL VERSION & HALL OF FAME
(the "final version, and "hall of fame" versions are DONE. "final version" has the same slider settings for both cpu and user. while "hall of fame" slider settings have some different settings between user and cpu.
(as of MARCH 7, 2004, there will be no more edits to any of these posts on these pages; so as long as you have copied them as of MARCH 7, 2004, you have the most updated sliders for both "final" version, and "hall of fame" version)
(range of clicks follow some sliders to allow for personal preference without disrupting overall sim flavor of game)
(HALL of FAME Sliders at bottom of this post)
(also remember some sliders move 1 space over and some move 2 spaces over, so all sliders are in terms of CLICKS)
Here are sliders that keep shooting %s, rebounds, # of fouls, # of foul shots, # of 3 pt. shots, steals, turnovers, and points ACCURATE SIMS, while also KEEPING THE AI COMPUTER from shooting immediately! No more one pass and a shot. The computer works the ball around with these sliders. How? Put medium shot tendency to ZERO (0 clicks). They still shoot them, but LOOK for the best medium shots now, and that takes time! :) GUARANTEED!

Step by Step Directions to Set Sliders Correctly (order must be followed exactly)
1. go to GAMEPLAY and set PLAY MODE to SIMULATION; DIFFICULTY to SUPERSTAR; set SPEED at NORMAL; and TIME to 8 MINUTES; and turn OFF: Pass Tag Icon (unless you like to use it), Def Swap Player Icon (unless you like to use it), Clutch (this keeps CPU from unrealistic comebacks, but this is also an option on or off), and Freethrow Help [the remaining: def auto guard inbounding (this is set to on so the user doesn't get cheap inbound steals), ball handler auto switch, biorhythem, fatigue, and player injuries are set to ON].
2. go to NBA RULES and set charge/block, reach in, and shooting foul ALL to zero (in other words, far left so you see no red bar); and leave ALL RULES ON.
3. go to GAME SLIDERS and turn EVERY SINGLE SLIDER to ZERO (far left with no red bar showing; for BOTH CPU and USER).
4. return to NBA RULES and make the make the following NUMBER OF CLICKS:

:!: IMPORTANT NOTE ON RANGES & FREE THROW HELP OPTION - MUST READ :!:
 The NBA Rules ranges can depend on how skilled the user and user team is.
Generally, use higher reach in foul (ie at 38 ), lower shooting foul (ie 26 ), and lower charge (ie. at min 0 ) if you are experienced. While on the other hand use lower reach in foul (ie 36), higher shooting foul (ie 29 ), and higher charge (ie 20 ), if you are less experienced.
The most important of the rules is the charge/block foul and the shooting foul.
The shooting foul slider can allow some experienced users to draw too many shooting fouls at the 29 range. This is because the higher the shooting foul slider, the more likely it is the shooting animation will occur faster than the defender can get into place (especially in the paint), and consequently a foul is called. Generally if you have a great shooting team, I would recommend a 26 or 27, if you have an average shooting team, I would recommend a 27 or 28, and if you have a poor shooting team, I would recommend a 28 or 29.
The charge/block foul slider is set to min 0 clicks and this is generally suggested for all, since at this setting, charges are much more likely to be called by using isomotion without thought or driving the lane when there really isn't space. The 0 setting penalizes those who wish to use isomotion without discretion and take advantage of elite players who are able to generaly drive and dunk at will (related to this below are the dunk and handle sliders, both of which have a 7 - 9 range on "final version" and 6 - 9 range on "hall of fame").
The free throw help option also merits attention. If you are an average free throw shooter, best to keep it off, since it requires user skill to make. However if you find free throw shooting easy, best to put it on, since then making it or not depends on the players free throw attribute and not the user skill.
 The GAME SLIDERS: shooting percentages; dunk/layup blocking; steal success; and steal, handle, and dunk can depend on how skilled the user team is.
The BETTER a team you use as a user controlled team, the lower in the slider range you should select a number from. For example if you use the Cavs, try a 15 short range %, but if you use the Lakers, try a 14 short range %. If you use the Cavs, try an 8 handle and dunk. If you use the Lakers try a 7 handle and dunk.
Basically if you use a POOR team, best to be on the high end of the range; if you use an AVERAGE team, best to be in the middle of the range; and if you use an ELITE team, best to be at the low end of the range.
(these general notes on range apply to user sliders in both "final version" and "hall of fame" user settings; additionally, these notes also apply to the cpu sliders in "hall of fame" in that the more difficult a game you want from the cpu, the higher you put those sliders in those suggested ranges.)
The sliders as shown in absolute number before the ranges are what I am using and the team I use is the Cavs (for example I use a 15% close range shooting percentage, and the suggested range is 14 - 15.
(ranges are provided allowing the game to remain sim, but also letting people change things to their liking, since john doe isn't going to like the same thing as jack doe necessarily. the ranges are there to tailor the game to YOUR liking, without changing the sim style of the game)
ALSO REMEMBER:order and starting point on the sliders is CRITICAL. set to superstar, then click ALL sliders (in NBA RULES & GAME SLIDERS) to zero so they are completely to the left and no red bar is showing (for BOTH USER and CPU), then go back to the NBA Rules and set the sliders as shown by the "number" of clicks, as well as to the Game Sliders and set the sliders for both user and cpu as shown by the "number" of clicks. save it as a setting by clicking save settings, give it a name, etc, and it's all set up ready to use :)

Both "Final Version" and "Hall of Fame" sliders keep shooting %s, rebounds, # of fouls, # of foul shots, # of 3 pt. shots, steals, turnovers, and points ACCURATE SIMS, keep the CPU FROM SHOOTING IMMEDIATELY by making it play smart basketball, and allow for a small range of personal preference to be met without sacrificing the overall sim nature of the game by using slider ranges where appropriate.
************************************************** **********
 SOME FINAL NOTES on the FINAL VERSION SLIDERS and HALL OF FAME SLIDERS!
First, remember some sliders move 2 spaces at a time and some sliders move 1 space at a time, (so all slider settings are in terms of CLICKS).
Second, the range for the reach in slider is from 36 to 38 (this is about as high as you can go without attempting a steal being an automatic foul).
Third, the "USER" sliders for handle and dunk in particular require special attention. (using anything higher than a 6 or 7 in "hall of fame" or 7 in "final version" for a team like the lakers, kings, or mavericks; or using a team with a player which the game has given almost unstoppable skill to, will allow these teams and/or players to drive and dunk quite frequently when controlled by an experienced game player. Therefore to avoid the game's unbalanced and unrealistic favoratism for these teams, and for certain elite players in terms of driving and dunking, a "USER" 6 - 7 range for "hall of fame", and a 7 for "final version" is suggested, and in no case is anything higher for the user than an 8 recommended when using these teams or teams with certain types of players.
Alternatively, for those who want to play with these teams, yet keep the handle and dunk higher than 7, which is still within the suggested range of 6 - 9 for "hall of fame" and 7 - 9 for "final version", another possibility is to edit the stamina/endurance ratings of those particular players who have the unstoppable gameplay. Editing those players stamina/endurance slider "lower" will allow those players to remain dominant, but limit a full game of dominance, as orchestrated by a skilled user.
Ultimately however, the easiest thing is to just keep the above mentioned sliders in the 6 - 9 for "hall of fame" or 7 - 9 range for "final version" using the low end of the range when using dominant teams or teams with dominant players, using the high end of the range for poor teams, and using the middle of the range for average teams. Doing so will still allow dominant teams and players to remain dominant at the low end of this range, however the unrealistic and unbalanced favoratism the game affords these teams and players will no longer exist).
Lastly, charge/block slider in NBA Rules is set to 0 clicks/far left because this setting provides the most significant impediment to potential abuse of elite players with too high handle and dunk ratings from abusing isomotion and driving the lane. (In conjunction with the user 6 - 9 range in "hall of fame" and user 7 - 9 range in "final version" for handle and dunk mentined above, the charge block slider at zero further prevents the potential abuse of using certain teams or players who drive to dunk with impunity by requiring thought, recognizing defenses, and using skill and strategy when using isomotion. Charges will be called even on these teams/players at this setting if unrealistic drives to dunk are attempted. Dominant players and teams will remain dominant, but they will no longer be unrealistically dominant. For less experienced users and those who find isomotion difficult, a setting closer to the 20 end of the 0 - 20 range is suggested).
Enjoy!

ALSO REMEMBER: order and starting point on the sliders is CRITICAL. set to superstar, then click ALL sliders (in NBA RULES & GAME SLIDERS) to zero so they are completely to the left and no red bar is showing (for BOTH USER and CPU), then go back to the NBA Rules and set the sliders as shown by the "number" of clicks, as well as to the Game Sliders and set the sliders for both user and cpu as shown by the "number" of clicks. save it as a setting by clicking save settings, give it a name, etc, and it's all set up ready to use :)

Enjoy!
