I don't come to the NCAA hoops forum much, but when I saw this, I knew I had to rep. my team (alcsTARHEEL for all those that don't know). Rashad McCants is definitely a great ACC player, and in less than a half a year, he'll be among the top in the whole country. He's got the offensive capabilities down pat, but what he needs to work on is his defense. After that...
Look out NBA!

From what ive seen he is a top college scorer.
I don't see him being great unless he becomes a great defensive player (he is quick enough/ just needs to dedicate himself to shutting down the defender). To reach the level of a great offensive player he will need to become a better passer. - as good as he is at creating his own shot , he does a poor job of getting teammates assists (averaged 2.2 assists and 2.5 turnovers- should be better then that) He also needs to get to the free throw line consistently.
Otherwise I just see him being a good scorer with a limited all-around game in the nba.

He has good athleticism and he's an alright defensive player when he wants to be. He's no where near Michael Jordan, Jerry Stackhouse, or Vince Carter but he'll go to the NBA if he keeps it up.

Those are pretty much my same feelings on McCants, but Raymond Felton and Sean May are the real NBA prospects in my opinion! At least Felton for sure!! I just hope they stay in school for as long as possible!! GO HEELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Felton is very quick and a very good distributor... but at this point in his career he makes to many turnovers and he still cant shoot

AH SHHH....T!! Carolina just lost a heartbreaker to Texas, they're out!!!!! What a game by McCants, he carried them. BUT WHAT THE H3LL WAS HE THINKIN' ON THAT LAST SHOT!!! I'm actually glad he missed it, that would have been even harder to swallow!! May's stupid fouls dind't help either. If they would have used that press more often and earlier they probably would have won the damn game. AAAGGHHH!! Roy's probably killin' himself over that right now!!

McCants didnt perform down the stretch. He had 27 points with 9 minutes left to go... and guess how many he finished with. Also, how many turnovers did Felton have?? hmmm?

At least they lost to a higher seed! Who did Kentucky lose to, UAB? What's that? That's embarassing, that's what that is!
7 National Championships
March 26th, 2004, 06:03 PM
Loosing to UAB is embarrasing? No way... Dissapointing, yes. UAB has won i think 22 regular season games and 9 or 10 conference games. They are a solid team.
Put it this way though, if loosing to UAB is so bad, then North Carolina lost to the team (UK) that lost to UAB. As a matter of fact, North Carolina lost... for the 4 year in a row to that team.

Bro! who's talking 'bout the last 4 years, I'm talking 'bout one game, one embarassing loss to the University of Alabama Birmingham. Don't start diggin' in the archives on me now, come on man!

March 26th, 2004, 08:11 PM
I hardly consider UAB an embarrasing loss when they were co-champs of their conference and won their conference tourney. Did you even watch the game? You know it just isnt your teams night when the other team saves a pass from out of bounds and throws it behind his head and it lands perfectly in the hands of a teammate for a slam. UAB was hitting globetrotter shots.
It is a definitely a dissapointing loss... but most definately not embarrassing

Alright, alright so it was dissapointing! That crazy pass you're talking about was made to his twin brother! Now that's crazy, spooky even!!

yea, mccants is overrated. he just doesnt strike me as a great player...now anyways. maybe in a year he will, but doesn't impress me. romain sato is impressive. i never heard of him till xavier vs louisville but he is damn good! give me him any day over mccants

Ill give McCants his due credit, but he's not a reliable player and he isnt consistant, he's ok in the NCAA but i definately do not see him playin in the NBA, he'll most likely end up in the NBDL or somethin.

McCants will at least get a shot in the NBA because of UNC's rep for putting 2 guards(or players period for that matter) in the league. Heck, if Forte can get a shot, why can't rashad?

April 17th, 2004, 06:40 PM
Rashad can put up numbers and him and Felton i think will both get a shot in the NBA. We should point out however that playing D3 College Sports is an accomplishment, let alone playing for one of the most historic collegiate basketball team in the country.

Well guess what m
7 national championships. Nc State beat Marquette who beat UAB twice. UNC Beat NC State twice, so that means we're better than you?? This can go on forever and here are the stone cold facts
1. Kentucky is a great team
2. UNC is a great team
3. Dook sucks
4. Coach K ought to be shot and put out of his misery.

Its all about matchups. A bad call (charging when it should have been blocking) changed the game but still.... We just didnt match up well. That is what it is all about... so saying that A beat B and beat C 4 times while D beat L... that makes A the best team in the land!

Mccants wont be a top pro prospect...........even if he has a Wooden Award type of year.
He is too samll for the SG position which is his natual spot.
He is listed at 6'4" but many say closer to 6'3". He doesn't have the tolls YET to be a NBA PG. Maybe late in the 1st unless he shows passing skills and handling ability this year

Just watch. he'll probably grow that inch to. They said Gordon wasnt a top pro prospect to. Wonders what a national championship can do for you. And that is exactly what were gonna win this year.

Their is a difference i think.
Ben Gordon had/hass the passing and ball-handling ablility of a PG.
McCants doesn't.
IF McCants doesn't grow to be 6'5" (he is prob. 6'3" now) then he wont be a top pick.
That is however if he hasn't improved his PG abilities.
I am not questioning his talent.
Eric Crouch was a Neisman winner and yet he slipped to the 4th round in the NFL draft.
Some players are better in college than the pros.

FIRST MCCANTS IS MY FAVORITE PLAYER.
Alright here we go you guys are saying that he might not be first round or top pick lets see hes bout 6 3 and lets see jameer nelson is like 5 10, 5 9 he got picked first round. Mccants is just as good as Jameer so Mccants will problly be a top 15 pick.
7 National Championships
July 31st, 2004, 07:10 PM
the difference is, while Nelson is a PG McCants is a SG that will be unable to play point because he doesnt have the ball handling or passing instincts required to do so

im saying overall game mccants is better he played in the ACC agaisnt better teams then the Hawks played agaisnt. And mccants can be a pg hes just better at SG, look at duncan he acts like hes pg.

you missed what I said. McCants CANT be a PG because he lacks the ball handling skills.
Nelson, IMO will be a flop though. He is a SG is a PGs body. He thinks shoot before pass, but then again most NBA points do, so then he might do well

huh???
McCants is a SG as 7national said.....
He will get abused on defense by bigger, stronger players like T-mac, kob, ect...
If your picking in top 15, you want a guy who can be a starter for you for a while....
McCants is only a 6th man at the moment, unless he shows ball-handling and passing ability.....
BUT.........Who woul have thought Delonte West could impress some1 enough to show he could be a PG and get draft in top 25.....
But we will see....

That's what I been hearing. They said dude is more like 6-2 or 6-3. He will be a great college player but I don't know about the pros. I could see him being a Fred Jones type with a better offensive game.

7 National Championships, what do you have against UNC, I mean UK is good, but I think UNC is better this year, last year we were not solid and ya'll only won by 5 in Lexington, all your sayings are biased, and saying it only because you dislike UNC, not because they are honest, well-thought-out opinions. If all Kentucky fans are as close-minded as you, well then Go UAB Blazers.....

oh yeah, what a great argument!!!! U hate them because we've kicked your *** 17 times and uve only beaten us 10? While UAB did have 22 wins last season, they came against low level teams (they did have to play Cincy and Louisville tho) but u take a look, TCU, St. Louis, ECU, Southern Miss, South Florida, Tulane, DePaul, Marquette, and Houston. So while the C-USA is a good basketball conference, its not near as good as the ACC, or the SEC in basketball, you lost to that team who is unexperienced, and don't go blaming the refs, we lost to Texas who did awesome and is in the Big 12, the same conference as Texas Tech, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, all good basketball teams
P.S. You'll keep looking up at us on the all time series wins

Yes, UAB beat the cats by one. It was an upset... an upset in the 2nd round that saw Stanford fall as well. I dont see you ripping stanford.
Every team loses... every team falls victim to an upset. UNC has had the same happen to them. I cant say any recently... since their highest seed in the tourney since 2001 is... 6th.
