The article says that the NHLPA wants to give ea exclusive rights.
NHL says if the PA does that they will give 2k the NHL liscence.

One game with player names and Other games with teams, arenas, etc.[Gretzky and 2k hockey NHL licence Ea Nhlpa licence]
Neither sides want that so look for NHL 07 and NHL 2k7 next year.

Remember Madden 64 versus NFL QB club 98

What I got from the article was that the NHL and NHLPA doesn't feel that it's a good thing for software developers to gain exclusive rights, and that Take-Two agrees with that as so. EA wishes to try and buy all of these people out, but the NHL doesn't seem to be interested. However, the NHL doesn't see any problems with trading cards having exlusive rights.

Did you even read the article? It tells how the NHL screwed EA sports into not getting exsclusive rights
