View Full Version : Do you ever feel like we request the same things year in and year out?

I've been on these boards for years-since it was segasports.com and every year the same requests come in and every year many of them are neglected.

The throws, the gloves, the double play animations, the swing animations have been bad for a while and never get touched. Instead, they add things like Slam Zone that nobody requested. Its funny. When 2k5 initially came out, this was the big big gimmick they used to sell the game. When the World Series edition came out, it wasn't mentioned at all.

How many years have we been requesting a creat-a-team?

HR robs were requested-so now you see like 3 a game.

Its the same for all sports games-not just 2k and not just EA.

But i really do notice it for this series.

I get the serious feeling that the people who make this game really know little about baseball and have little experience playing the game at a high level.

Take for example-baserunner mode. While baserunning is a key part of the game-I highly doubt that a gamer is going to want to be a runner instead of a hitter.

From the interview on IGN.com
"Now, while in Baseburner mode, you have new commands to give to your batting teammate, including sacrifice bunts, swinging for a flyball hit, and more"

You think a hitter has ever taken a sign from another player to bunt? Or you can jus tell a guy to hit a flyball?
Now how can I tell that this person probably doesn't have a strong baseball back ground...he used the word "batting-teamate" instead of hitter. Of course its a little thing, but to me its a give away that the people making the game are not "baseball guys"

All most people really want is a fundamentally sound baseball game. We want the game to play and feel as close to real baseball as it can. The details are important-not the gimicks.

Yeah, I've been saying how obvious it is that they probably don't even have one baseball fan on the development team with the way animations and bad ratings are.

But this year, they're saying they improved the animations dramatically, but I'll believe it when I see some video.

Did you say something?

Kush never made those animations. Most of those animations were created by the team who did the 2K2-2K4 series. They were recycled due to time restraints. I'll believe 'em, because the hockey game has some great animations and collision detection, and if they use that knowledge of programming in 2K6, then I would expect to see some nice stuff. Sometimes you need to give the team a little more time to create something out of garbage.

I agree. I don't know how long I've waited for create a stadium and create a team. I'm also growing tired of baseball games always seeming to be the least realisitic of the three major sport video games.

Also, when are they going to make it a challenge? In 2K5, I have to put the Sliders (which I actually like) up on the 90s just to make the computer hit the ball with some realistic consistency. I play with the freakin' Rockies for crying out loud and their pitchers are throwing shutouts every game on Legend.

Speaking of the Sliders, they are great because I love being able to adjust the hitter power, fielder speed, etc. But they should be a little bit harder on the default settings.

mlb 2006 is the best game i have ever played....if 2k6 could copy what 989 sports did, and use their own graphics, it would be awesome.

Yeah man ... great thread ... I have been asking for in-game saves (so I don't have to block out an hour every time I want to play a game) and also co-op play where you and a friend could team up for a season or franchise against the computer ... and no one ever bothers to listen ... These two features were in ASB and were very popular ... So, instead of listening, 2K will waste hours upon hours putting in the "challenge the umpire" mode ... I mean how often have we ever seen an umpire overturn another umpire in all the years you have been watching baseball ... I think I have seen that happen once maybe twice in 30+ years ...

It seems they are always looking for a "gimmick" each year. Last year it was Slam Zone and before that it was 1st person mode.

Instead of putting all of their effort into these things, they need to get all of the little details first.

I think this series (if you can really call it that after the constant changes of companies) was at its best when World Series Baseball appeared on the Sega Saturn. I still think it was one of the best-feeling baseball game and way ahead of its time. I played more games with realistic stats than any other game.

Baseball at it's most basic form is hitting, catching and throwing.

These are the things that this game gets the most wrong year in and year out.

The swings are bad, the throwing and fielding animations are bad.

To people who don't play baseball, they may not notice the awkward swings and throws, but to anyone who has played-its a complete turn-off.

As always, the boards are filled with great promise for the upcoming title, but I will definately be renting before buying this game as I've been let down with this title since it jumped to the Dreamcast without defensive controls.

I agree too.
