defenseman Brian Leetch has been traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, along with a conditional draft choice, in exchange for a pair of highly-touted European prospects - defenseman Maxim Kondratiev and center Jarkko Immonen

The Rangers also announced Wednesday that the club has acquired forward Dwight Helminen, a second round selection in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and goaltender Stephen Valiquette from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for center Petr Nedved and goaltender Jussi Markkanen.

Edmonton is trying to make a statement saying, "We are not giving up yet."

And the Leafs loosing out on Gonchar, got a good solid defenceman, in which they need. They have more of a offensive defence.

Kovalev, Leetch, Nedved all gone this week. March 9/04 (Trade deadline) is fast approaching. Maybe players have 'trade me' clauses, that are the opposite of 'no trade' clauses. Is that allowed in the NHL? Anyways, Rangers are having a fire sale.
