View Full Version : HENCHMEN'S TAKE ON THE RAVENS

March 5th, 2004, 03:25 AM
Well we all knew it was going to be the BIGGEST year in FA and possibly in the Draft. Good moves, acquisitions and trades have been made already and have these Forums HOT!!! The team, obviously on most people's tongues so far is the RAVENS...Thanks to Rave_Nomad, henchmen, StopMe, Slick-Mick, and a few other people, we kinda fueled the obnoxious fire before the "TRADE" even happened. OBNOXIOUS not for the "subject" but obnoxious because it was put down bickering about....a Football team. I know you casual readers were probably tired by Round 2 of listening to us go back and forth for days.

Let me clear something up for everybody. My purpose for being in this forum is to State my Opinions and to share ideas back and forth with you guys. It is also to speak my mind about the NFL and to be as creative and colorful as possible so as to not bore the readers.

When Rave_Nomad started in with the TO and Sapp Predictions...I thought a few things. FIRST was gee...what would that be like? Probably pretty good for them, I mean BOTH players are known Loudmouths/Motivators whether you like them or not. And then to play with Ray? Ray just comes out before a game, bandana on, biceps ripped, knees and legs doing a quick CHARLESTON convulsion while he fires a howl into the heavens and brings 60,000+ fans into a complete frenzy; explosions going off behind him. That's all cool. I though WOW...but Sapp's kinda getting up there and TO needs a High Flying Pass Game to stay happy. Not to mention he Drop Passes all the time. ALL I ASKED WAS FOR RAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THIS HAPPENED BEFORE HE STARTED TALKING OR EXPECTING PEOPLE TO TAKE HIS "STUFF" SERIOUSLY. I cannot give my opinions about the 2004 Ravens, with People on their Teams, who really aren't. Rave was already putting RINGS on his Ravens at that point (and still is) and I just thought and still think It's Rediculous.

Some of you are already writing SUPERBOWL? This is why OTHER fans start to Dislike YOU and your TEAM. Last Year it was the Dolphins. We had at least 5-6 Bigtime FINS FANS in here that talked SO MUCH SMACK about the Dolphins D and Zach and Taylor and Ricky Ricky Ricky....What happened? REALITY HAPPENED. No offense to FINS fans, you guys a pretty decent run but you're obviously NOT quite where your FANS think you are. But the Problem was, the FINS FANS TALKED so much that everyone started to hate the FINS and their FANS. It got to the point where FINS FANS were asking FINS FANS to STFU cause they were embarrassed by the Dumb Comments. So here we are again. NOW...back to the Ravens.

Straight out of the Gates, it is apparent that this year will be the year the RAVENS fanatics make a55e5 of themselves. WHY SO HARSH HENCHMEN? Well just take a look what you guys have already done. You guys think TERRELL OWENS equals a RING? I suppose if Warren Sapp comes to Baltimore, that SOLIDIFIES it even more?

Maybe you guys forgot but EVERY other team will be hunting with you...Including the Defending Champions. I said from Day 1, I didn't care whether TO comes to Baltimore and I don't. Do I think it makes a huge impact on the NFL or the Ravens? NO I don't, WHY HENCHMEN? Because TO still has to run the play, he still has to be better than the coverage, and he still has to CATCH the ball. Do I think he's the Best Receiver in the NFL? NO...Does the NFL think TO is the Best Receiver in the NFL? NO...the guy was practically GIVEN away in a box of Cracker Jacks.

BUT...they're going to the Super Bowl now. Because of Terrell Owens. I wonder what would happen if you took Marvin Harrison away from Manning and put him on the Ravens. Mind you, he's a much better receiver than TO. Harrison on the Ravens...What kind of Season would he have? I figured HE would take you guys straight to the SuperBowl too...BUT it's not the Quality Receivers who make a difference...cause we all know the team with the LOUDEST receiver always goes to and wins the Superbowl. You want to talk about Offenses...you could go down the list of ALL the teams and find plenty of great players on Offense.

What has you guys in Baltimore excited are the NAMES...and that's what they are..names. This FA and TRADING is far from over and we still have the Draft. Aside from that, you have to consider that all the other teams will be adding and making changes too. TERRELL OWENS WAS NOT THE BIG FISH...relax guys. He's a good addition to your team but like everyone is kinda pointing out already...They are NOT high flyers, they are ground chewers...this will BALANCE the attack but Everytime TO turns on the TV and sees Randy Moss and Marvin Harrison stealing the RECEIVERS spotlights...his blood will boil. You cannot change the size of that man's heart...understood. BUT you can only keep him OFF CAMERA for so long.

I still think the Patriots have the Best Team in Football. If you add in the Owner, and Coach besides the great amount of players we have...THE WHOLE FAMILY...we are as tight as it comes. well executed and Disciplined Football and Brady never saw a sack in the entire Playoffs. WE DON'T HAVE AN OWENS OR A SAPP...just a bunch of really good Football players who know how to study and learn. That's why I react the way I do when people come on here and start DEGRADING and MINIMALIZING their accomplishments by saying.."They were all right" or "they didn't impress me" WHATEVER. They accomplished something that will be hard to replicate and they are the World Champs RIGHT NOW. I don't see Patriots Fans Hootin and Hollering all over the place saying We're Number 1..We're Number 1!..There are lots of teams that have bragging rights concerning BECOMING BETTER..just look at the REDSKINS. WATCH THE REDKINS!!!!!

Now that TO is on the Ravens, I feel it is OK to voice our opinions on the topic...before hand is pointless because it is not reality. Now it is Reality. Congratulations to the Ravens Fans. I'm glad you guys believe this is going to put you better than all the other teams. ONE MAN will do it all huh? OK...well I wish you guys the best this year.

Personally, I would've brought in a NEW YOUNG TALENT since the Draft is loaded with WR...after all, your team is still growing and you don't need controversy on your team. No team needs controversy. TO bring controversy...it just a part of him. He's 30? Don't think he's going to CHANGE much but...Jamal will likely play next year and I don't think he will go to jail. Sapp is still to be seen but again, I don't hink it will have as HUGE as an impact as RAVENS fans are Jumping about. Improve them..of course, they'd both improve any team that needs help in those areas...but again..THE BEST..NO

Enough to make me or other fans worry? NO

I'm happy with the New England Patriots and that's all I really care about. My whole involvement in this was to Jump on Stupid People who make Stupid comments. I will always do that. Any reply I made to Rave_was for his blatent stupidity. Not your predictions...I could care less, I only asked you to wait for it to happen, that's all. But your Garbage about other teams and the NFL is just stupid. So it is my duty, I feel,...to put the Dunce Cap on the Deserving...ESPECIALLY WHEN THE COMMENTS ARE COMING FROM A JACKa55 who DIVED on a beating I was handing him.

Overall...good luck Ravens Fans...We'll see just what kind of an impact this will really have. I wouldn't worry about 2K5  The Patriots will likely be the STRONGEST team. Hopefully they can balance the Reality of the game a little better. Can't wait to see who our RB will be....Hopefully they'll make Garner, Williams, George, and all the other TANKS a little easier to bring down.

THE ROAD TO THE SUPERBOWL COMES THROUGH NEW ENGLAND!! COME GET YOURSELF SOME!

on the fact that the draft is filled wit WR
ravens will only have a 2nd round pick to pic up a WR
n by then the good ones should be gone

March 5th, 2004, 03:44 AM
WOW...you guys are screwed then...guess TO is the best you could do. :P

BUT penny, when I say loaded, it is, and unless every team was picking up a WR...it is very possible to find a GOOD QUALITY RECEIVER in the 2nd Round of this year's draft.

A good example: Arizona's Anquain Boldin was not a first round WR Pick last year and he not only made a name for himself, he went to the Pro Bowl and won Rookie of the Year honors. Don't rmember if it was NFL or just NFC but still, you don't have to pick one in the first round to get a good one.

Everyone attacked me when I brought him up...WHO? BOLDIN? Yah...check him out and watch him this year. I'll put money he finishes as a top receiver again.

Got to get Hench's back on this one.

Speaking as a fan of the team that has won the last 3 "Off Season Bowl" championships, allow me to say Superbowls aren't won in the spring with one or two big name players.

Baltimore...is a...(sorry, that was a Washington/Baltimore/SNL thing if you listen to 98 rock at all) ;)

Forgive me for posting this Hench, but you do seem a little bitter about TO going to the Ravens...

I know you follow the Patriots and they are the CURRENT champs, so why the need to clarify that next season still has to be played and that the Ravens' signing of Owens doesn't mean they'll be going to Disney World next year??

As you stated, the Dolphins were the OFF-SEASON Super Bowl champs last year - and we all know how that turned out this past season. Now look at the Dolphins - Griese gone, Fiedler could be gone, AJ Feeley is aquired, Brock Marion gone, Todd Wade signed with the Texans, etc, etc...

My point is not to rub the Fins' fans noses in what's going on, rather to steal a line from Chris Berman - 'This is why they play the game.' Anything can happen and probably will.

If winning the Super Bowl were as easy as signing 1 player, every team would have a Lombardi in their trophy case.

Slick, on my Father's Grave I could honestly care less who TO plays for.

I agree...That's why they play the Games...Cool

I didn't care for TO in San Fran and I don't care about him as a Raven...I just think it's funny that people are already saying SuperBowl because of one player. That's all

Don't get me wrong...I like TO somewhat..I thought the Pom Poms was funny...but the rest...ah....He's OK..He's a Good Receiver. He's just not in my Top 5...maybe 10...easily 15. But beyond that?...do I care he went to Baltimore? H-ell No

T.O. could go to Kukamunga for all I care...I don't think he's an IMPACT player to the Point of taking an ENTIRE team to a SuperBowl...there's a lot more to it than that.

Just be a little realistic Ravens Fans...that's all I ask. be Happy you got a good receiver and we'll see what happens...SuperBowl?

Come Get Some!

The bitterness you feel is for Gonad cause I still think he's an a55 no matter who comes to his team and no matter how many articles he writes. Anybody that can say with a straight face that Kitna had a better year than Brady should be slapped. And I love John Kitna...he was a BIG part as to what made the Bengals exciting last year...I hate to see him lose his job. Palmer will do just fine and his growing pains will not be as hard as people think...they didn't just THROW him to the Lions like Harrington..no pun intended. The same as Carr. They'll grow slowly but surely. But BRADY didn't just win the SB he was MVP. His stats were better in EVERY CATEGORY except QB Rating and it was by 2 points. Whoopdie Doo! Since when is a QB Rating more important than a SuperBowl Title...he's just a Jacka55...that's what you're feeling. He should also be slapped for saying the AFC EAST is easy...Good Lord Man

Trust me....Mr. Gonad has worn me out too. Anyone that claims they have a "inside source" for information and then proceeds to cut-n-paste every post from a local Baltimore paper is hilarious!

I'm not claiming to be the know-all of sports, but at least I'm capable of an original thought...and realize there's no reason to get overly hyped in March considering the season doesn't start until September.

I've been reading the forum posts for a while now and i just now decided to sign up and write as it were,Im In Maryland and i am a diehard Ravens
fan,we did only have a 2nd round pick so im very happy we landed Terrell Owens, I think he will be a great Player for us and we needed teams to believe we have a passing game, Im not saying we will win the SuperBowl but if any team looks past us i think it would be a mistake.

I dont know if i agree with everything i have read from this Rave_nomad
but it seems to me he likes to get attention and stir things up.

The main thing that i fail to understand is why so many people bash him so often since all anybody does in this forum is speak there mind??

It would seem to me that unless you were a Ravens Fan or wanted to know a little something interesting about the team you had no business in there.

I dont want to be slammed for my own God given opinion...thats why i waited so long to sign up.

The thing you mentioned henchmen is the Dolphins, Who always seem to have high expectations...yet every year they die in November ane in December....this is my point though first thing is the Dolphins did nothing the year before signing Brian Griese and Junior(Who i always thought was washed up) so why would they think they would do much better with those 2 players??? The Ravens on the other hand made the playoffs last year and with the addition of Terrell Owens this doesnt hurt...

I do however think you can make an argument that he is in the top 3 as far as recievers go....maybe number 1, after all he does have more TD catches then any other Reciever since 97 i believe.....now last year was considered an "off season" for him but if you look at his stats he had over 1000 yards rec and i think around 10 TD's...the Ravens top 2 receivers
only combined had around 800 yards and 7 TD's so this is a much needed improvement.

They still need to play the games, and since you seem to be a Patriots fan i wouldnt worry....but i wouldnt look past the Ravens next year ..thats all im saying.

After all in the very least this doesnt hurt the team in anyway, If anything this will create running room for Jamal Lewis and Musa Smith.

and my hope is that Terrell Will bond with Young Kyle Boller and they can grow together, But i have a feeling Kyle already plans to make Terrell his go to guy...but lets not forget about Todd Heap....he is a very good Tight end that doesnt seem to get alot of respect i think he could have a big year because of Terrell Owens.,..I guess we will all find out...

Just to close this long post i think people need to realize the Ravens were already a good team before getting Terrell Owens and they still are.
They have a Defence that most teams would kill for..they led the league in sacks ..they have a dreat secondary Mcalister and Reed are studs out there and Gary Baxter really came on late last season, if you were to add a solid D-linemen they would be pretty much set....i have heard the rumors about Sapp maybe we could get him i dont know , i think it would be cool and would improve our only weakness that i can see which is our D-line..

In the NFL they say Defence and a solid running game will take you far and i hope this is true.....Brian Billck said a nice comment about just what Terrell Owens is going to bring with him here in Baltimore...

The thing that probably, strictly from a football standpoint, excites me the most, beyond whatever productivity Terrell Owens brings to the Baltimore Ravens…is what he does for the offense as a whole, what he dictates that other teams are going to have to do,” Ravens head coach Brian Billick said at a late-afternoon press conference.

“Many people observe that this will keep teams from getting eight in a box, and they’ll have to sit in two-deep. We’re still going to see eight in the box, but they’re going to be real nervous about it when they do.”

that was from Brian Billick ....now i wont lie im very excited about this....but we still need to play the games and after next season is over the Ravens Game play should speak for itself....

Thanks for listning .

Let's face it folks...Several teams are high on thier hopes because right now EVERYONE'S UNDEFEATED!!! ;)

I, being a die-hard Skins fan (and I beg to differ...I think the JetSkins were the biggest off-season team last year...but I digress) can claim high hopes not due to the players we've aquired (and while I'll miss Champ...nothing like a running game!) but because of the Coach we've acquired. I've got my 'Return of the King' Gibbs wallpaper up here too...

The Bengals can crow about how quickly they made a HUGE turnaround, and with Lewis in his second year and the fact that they almost won the division last year, they have reason to be proud.

Denver has a shut down corner to add to the #4 defense, Atlanta has Vick back...Carolina almost won the Superbowl...you see the trend.

Still, last I checked sucess is measured in Vince Lombardi trophies...and the current one is in New England.

So before you book the BCC for a Superbowl celebration (making it the second biggest event hosted there after Otakon) just remember:

You haven't lost a game, but you haven't won a game either.

As always, just an opinion...

T.O. could go to Kukamunga

lol... I think that is his destination...

As far as throwing qb's in there, for every Peyton Manning who was "thrown in there", there is a Steve McNair that waited in the wings....

Steve Mcnair cant hold Mannings cup.....
Peyton manning is the leagues best Quarterback and he should have held the MVP alone...Mcnair didnt even play in every game....you hear alot about Mcnair being tough...what about Manning?? He hasnt missed a game!!! thats tough....

Ahem...

Dear Private Flamebait:

I understand you wished to paint Manning in a superior light to McNair. You may have forgotten that Manning has a number of better football players around him. Harrison is considered one of the two best WR in the NFL, Wayne & Clark have shared accolades as well, and Edgerin James spearheads a terriffic running threat. Manning has the ability to make all the pieces fit and makes the proper decisions and throws...when he is not playing New England.

McNair has far less with which to work. His ground support is not what it once was, and his reciever corps while good pales in comparison to what the Colts posess. When they faced the Patriots the game took a decided turn in the home team's favor when McNair's shot wore off in the second half. As he does not have the running game to make teams respect the Play Action, nor the Line protection Manning has, McNair takes a great deal more beating in the backfield than Manning.

MVP stands for Most Valuable Player. And as much as the Colts would lose without Manning, the Titans would lose as much without McNair. That and the fact that McNair was the highest rated passer in the AFC shows a portion of why he deserved the MVP award as much as Manning.

Both QBs had outstanding years. The division turned on just a few plays. To suggest that one could not carry the other's supporter is...(scrolls up and reads the foum rules)...well just not smart.

Care to rephrase your statement, or was that what you intended to get across?
