Hey all,
I've had this game for months, and have grown extremely frustrated with it for online play. This is for several reasons:
1. It's very difficult for me to join tables online, I'd say I'm able to connect to probably 1 in 10. Usually NAT negotiation fails, or it just says unable to connect for UDP connections.
2. Once I do connect, I'm inevitably disconnected within 20 minutes, one of several error messages being displayed, each indicating a network failure of some type. At that point the game tries to load (to get back to the room selection screen I'm guessing, it shows the progress bars at the bottom), but once the progress bar indicates 100% loaded, the game hangs and my only recourse is to reset my PS2.
I am not exagerating when I say these things occur *every time* I try to play online. From looking around on this forum, it appears that other people don't consistently have these problems, so I'd have to imagine it's related to my network setup. It's worth noting that I have a background in networking, so I'm very familiar with how this stuff works.
Now, the game says "do not play behind a firewall". Unacceptable, anyone who is even the slightest bit network-savy will find this statement laughable. So yes, my PS2 is inside a firewall...but I am occassionally able to join tables and play for a little while, so just saying "it's your firewall" can't be completely accurate. At least, that response is too broad in nature.
Is there a definitive list of ports/protocols that need to be allowed for this game to function properly? That would be a great start.
Some general technical info:
1. Wired connection
2. Linksys WRT-54G router
3. I am able to play other online games (Tiger Woods, for example) issue-free.
Please, PLEASE somebody out there help me out with this, I'm going mad over here!!
Thanks,
MB
