Any tips on avoiding this?

I get this message everytime I try to get online. Used to get it on NBA but that seems to be working of late.

I only get that when they're doing maintence or the server is down.

try reconnecting... hadn't seen that error yet but am getting "A network problem has been encountered that prevents gameplay from continuing. If this is a ranked game it will not be counted" and getting a crash at tipoff...

I played my first 3 games with no errors and now have had about 9 errors connecting.

I'm upto over 40 games without connecting, its one big joke of a game.

Well.. I got on last night and was able to play 3 games.. but today it's back to that **** message. Gettin it on NBA too again.

I got that message for the first time as well last night. Still wasn't able to play any games after I got past that message 20 minutes later. A friend of mine who was on the whole time said the lobbies were pretty much empty the whole night.

I checked my friends list after I tried to get on with NBA and failed. 3 of my 4 friends were playing games online in NBA. This **** is really ****in me off. I emailed 2k about 2 weeks ago about this and haven't heard a **** thing. Thank god for tech support.
