View Full Version : Where's the honor from online players?

I've been playing 2k6 on Xbox Live quite a bit and am decent enough (the slow play online kills my timing at the plate), but there seems to be a recurring issue, today, at least. As most of you probably know, it's pretty common and accepted to play strikes only. Granted some people may wish to play differently, but I simply excuse myself before the game starts and go on my way. However, today, 3 times in a row, people have suddenly "forgotten" this unofficial rule in key moments. What's up with that? Isn't there any honor and respect left? The few times I've been blown out, I kept to my end of the deal and hit the zone all the time.

I agree half and half with you. First off, baseball is baseball and balls are part of the game. So for all of those gamer geeks out there that cry and quit when someone throws balls, get over it, its part of baseball. Can you imagine watching baseball in real life if the hitters knew it was going to be a strike everytime?
Now for the other half, since most of the online community abides by the strike only rule, I usually play that way until I my oponent breaks the rule. That being said, everyone should have enough self respect to not switch up in the middle of the game because you gave up a triple in the bottom of the 9th with only 1 out and a tied game and you dont want to give up a sac fly to lose the game so you throw in the dirt to basically cheat the other guy out of a win after he threw 9 innings of strike only baseball to you. There are always going to be people out there that do this, but you have to ask yourself if your one of those people, do you want it done to you?

As for the first half of your comment, let me explain, I don't mind strikes and balls if that's the way we're playing. ****, offline, you have to play that way regardless and I enjoy it. But when you agree to something, you should stick to it til the end.
I just hate going through half a game and then suddenly the guy starts throwing really off pitches because he messed up a play previously. If you want to play with balls and I agree, then it's fair play. However, when you agree to something, you have to stick it out.

i hate people who throw all balls, but it's part of the game. especially in a game like this one, where the ball comes in so gosh darn slow. if you can't see its gonna be a ball in all that time, then u need glasses. but if i am pitching to you, and you have bases loaded, you better believe im gonna try and throw bad pitches and get you to swing at one... as the pitcher, im doing my best to get an out, not necessarily to throw strikes... the best thing a pitcher can do is throw balls, that the hitter will still swing at

BigHurt, you have a great point.
No wonder this guy got "Blownout" if all you throw is strikes then of course your going to get blown out.
All strikes??? What is the average score of your games 15-12? That doesnt sound like fun to me. But then again I was a pitcher and love the sight of some "Jack" swinging at a slider in the dirt for strike 3, then the next time he's at the plate you get him looking on a 2-2 pitch. LOVE THAT!!!

I agree all strikes is stupid. I mix up my pitches and if people have a problem with that then so be it.

All strikes is pure BS. Especially when you realize that a lot of pitches, such as splitters and sliders, are meant to be thrown outside of the strike zone to get the batter to swing at something that is unhittable.
Can someone please explain to me how this stupid arguement started? I was on these boards when this issue was first brought up, but I still never really figured out who came up with the idea.
Play baseball. Play the game. If you don't like it then leave...

I've played a couple games 'all-strikes' online....I figured it would be fun and fair, but I was wrong.
The games were mediocre. There was no stretegy, it was like a batting practice session to say the least. Scores were like 15-10 or 13-16
Since then I've played just a couple of sim style games and found them to be much more enjoyable. True I occasionally swing at some pitches in the dirt, but most of the tiime I can make a decision early enough and force the count to go deep or even draw a walk.
Scores to those games have been much more REAL.... 5-3 and 6-2....well pitched games and timely hitting is the name of the game.

Playing online gives me a good glimpse of the type of people who are joining this forum to slander the game. Why play all strikes when the pro level, with the lag, gives you more than enough time to realize the pitch? Have you seen some of the sizes of the batters eye? They take up nearily the whole strike zone. Like I'm just going to give it to them.

Yea on Pro, with the big batters eye, ALL Strikes = alot of high scoring games.

Yo Phen, long time . . . still a bunch of *****es running around here I see.
I just picked up '6 this weekend, loving it.
I must have missed the point last year where we decided to play T-ball.
One question for the tee ball . . . I mean all-strikes crowd:
Do you swing at every pitch? Do you ever try to take a pitch based on the count and situation? Do you pay any attention to your oppoenents tendencies?

Here a strategy that some of the "All Strikes" crowd might want to try to help them out. That I have used successfully.
First, do what Luz says, and know the count and tendency. Should be apperent after a couple innings. Just like for real, unless you know the person.
Also try this one, especially with palyers who have a large batters eye....
Pick a location with the eye where you think the ball is headed...for example place on the outside corner. You are now looking for an outside pitch.
If you place the batters eye accurately along the outside of the zone (which takes a little practice, especially since you can't see after a couple seconds)...you are looking for OUTSIDE.
If you see the pitch headed in that direction and your batters eye DOES NOT notify you that you've guessed correctly....let it go...it will continue to float out of the zone.
The other parts of the zone are open of course and he could sneakl something inside or low, those are up to you. But at least with this strategy you'll be able to eliminate the outside corner as a possibility.
have fun.

This is a joke right? Let's throw all strikes so everyone can just pull back on the analog stick, time it right, and send the ball 450ft!
What's next? We have to let the opponent know what pitch we're throwing too?
Every year its the same ol **** argument!

Just to let ALL of you know:
Honor and ONLINE don't mix. There are too many of you guys who are junky players who cheese all day. I bet probably have of the guys who "complain" about cheese do it to.
It is unfortunate that I have to stick to my COLD community brothers. They are the only guys who abide by sim and fair rules, and don't actually care about their rank on a game, like most of the 15 year olds online do.
On that note, anyone who plays strikes only needs to just stop pitching entirely and sit up a tee on home plate, since all you are doing is playing little league tee-ball.

All strikes is NOT Baseball.
Quick note and some of you may already know this.... a Batter's Eye changes in size based upon the situation and condition of the Batter and Pitcher. I've been in the process of setting Ortiz's eye and all of a sudden, a NEW pitcher is subbed in and his eye increased in size right in front of me. Plus I believe it stays slightly smaller if your batter is cold.
Anyone else notice this? I've only played 10-12 games so far.

The batter's eye has alot of factors involved with it but I personnally believe this is one innovative idea making it even better to mix up the pitches and bring a true match up between the pitcher and the batter.
The main factor I have seen so far is how good your batter reads the pitches. If the pitcher throws a ball and you let it zip by then you will notice it gets bigger but if you don't swing at a strike it will shrink. Throughout a game the size of the batters eye circle will vary pending on how the batter has done against the pitcher in the past and how good their batting attributes are.
I have had my players will a small batters eye % get it to almost max size by carefully watching the pitches. This is good for the better batters as it makes their chances of reading the pitch better.
One very innovative idea! What a great game!!!!

All strikes is not the solution. Having plate discipline is. If you got a guy who throws alot of balls you should be able to pick up on it and issue some walks. If a guy has a tendency to throw you junk then he wont be able to help it but to throw junk and walk your guys. He'll get nervous, bring his pitches over the plate and then BLAM you start doing your thing.
Last year I had one of the most successful and thriving league systems going (TO Leagues) and NOWHERE was there a rule you had to throw strikes. We just got good enough to play the game. Patience is the key. I just finished playing some ho.mo online now , wildwilly429, he gives me a neg cause I whipped his narrow behind. YET he brings in his starters as relievers. What a ho.mo. But he couldn't get good wood on any of my stuff. He did hit me don't get me wrong but he didn't get what he wanted so he negs me. Skrew'em.
