The Red Sox are my favorite team in the A.L. Once the Expos are gone for good, they're gonna be my favorite team period!! I was so hoping you guys would get Vladdy. But noooooooo, you guys seem content with Trot playing right and let the Angels get him. That's cool. Let's hope Schilling stays healthy cause if he does, he'll be a BIG boost. I could see Ortiz blasting 40 this year! The Evil Empire  is going down!!!!!!

Nomahh
March 24th, 2004, 06:21 PM
I wish the Sox had traded Manny for A Rod, put him at 2nd. Then signed Vladdy to replace Manny. But I guess not. Vladdy is awsome and I waould have enjoyed seeing him here. I think Ortiz does have a good shot at 40 this year, so if Manny hits 40 also then it would be great. Its the Yankees year to be in fear

TheBismark

We dont need A-Rod. if Jeter wasnt such an egomaniac, they'd let the league's best shortstop play the position he won 3 gold gloves in

Reverse the Curse! This is our year!

Mariners in 2006
March 25th, 2004, 08:57 PM
I hate Jeter...A-rod needs one more Home Run to break Ripkens all-time record for a Shortstop (345 HR's)...

If only Jeter hurt his shoulder in the first game this season so A-rod could play Short...

Nomahh
March 30th, 2004, 03:04 PM
Yeah I know thebismark, but when I hear the whole A-Rod, Manny, Nomar thing I wasnt too happy. As you can tell Nomar is my favorite player in the game. But I dont mind that nothing happened to anyone except Walker. But we now have Reese which is killer.

By "You" I meant Red Sox fans.

The Yanks got further than the stinky sox, so dont try to say anything about last year.

You remember Aaron Boone, dont you?

TheBismark

Dont even bother GoYanks. Our pitching staff is better. yours is just expensive. This is our year.

I want a Sox/Cubs world series, battle of the curses.

Pedro got hammered, Lowe isn't good, he had one good year, BK Kim is a releiver, and you're never sure how a knucklehead will do. Foulkie is no Rivera, Schilling is really all they got.

Brown can win 30 games, with his ERA and the Yankees hitting
So can Vasquez, he's got endurance, which DOES mean something.
Once Moose has a win, he'll be good again.

Ok, just keep denying the fact that the Sox are better than the Yanks. Everyone on ESPN thinks this is the year the Sox are gunna beat the Yanks. Ok, you want so stats here ya go. Pedro isnt the same as he was in his prime but he can easily win 20+.And I dont need to say anything about Schilling. Lowe is good and he didn just have 1 good year. Wakefield is number 3 in K's per inning behing Pedro and Clemens. Kim will hopefully be like his old self when he comes back and he will be starting. By Foulke not being Rivera you mean he is better right? Well he may not throw as hard but he is just as good. Out bullpen is much deeper than the Yanks and once Nomar and Nixon come back prepare to here big batting numbers from this team.

The Sox havent won a series because theyre not as rich as Steinbrenner.

My friend bought a shirt at Fenway that says "A-Rod is an A-Hole".

I find that to be hilarious.

You think your pitching staff is great when it really isn't

Look at your lineup, there's like 3 good hitters, a bunch of your hitters had career years last year (Jery Remy even agrees with me)

Wait, when did I say a thing about the lineup? I didnt. But now that you mention it we do have a good one. I dont even have to go on. No, we may not have the power that the Yankees have but we have players who can hit for average and get on base. Our lineup is just about the same as last year and our pitching staff is better. So if you put 2 and 2 together you can figure out that the Sox are better off this year than last, while the Yanks just lost pitching and gained hitting

Lieber is too old? Okay, then Schilling is too old
Vasquez IS very good overall. 3.73 ERA- Same as Pedro 33 Ks-More than all but 2 Red Sox pitchers. After today, will have 4 wins, thats as much or more than any Red Sock.
The Dustbunny is the AL Cy Young winner right now...
Lowe Arroyo and Kim arent aces.
Mussina had a rough start (along with the Yankee hitters) but his last start was good. went 8 innings, and struck out 7.

WE WANT NOMAHH!!!

Yeah, now you do.

In the offseason, the Red Sox were thinking about getting A-Rod. All the stories were about A-Rod. Nomar had to feel like "What about me?"

What am I saying?

He might not really be injured, just pretending to be because of what the Red Sox were doing to him in the offseason. That is probably why he is making "great progress."

Nomahh
May 15th, 2004, 09:05 AM
I personally never wanted A Rod unless it invlolved Manny for him, and not trading Nomar to get Ordonez.

Anyways this isnt BS. If he tried to play on an injury like this and made it worse, he could say good bye to his career

I never wanted Arod. Boston doesnt need his ego, and he doesnt need Boston's money. A 1-2 punch of Nomar and Manny is just as effective, if not even better.

What still kills me is that Jeter's ego doesnt allow ARod to play the position that he won 3 gold gloves for. He has to move because dumb girls in NY like to stare at Jeter. Too bad for them Jeter pounds ARod every night now.

sox fans----i am a dodgers fan and i can admit we suck. my question to you is how in the hell can you go around saying the yankees suck? the yankees have won 26 or 27 titles, your sox and my dodgers should suck like that. GET OVER IT SOX, YOU WILL NEVER BEAT THE YANKS...you had your chance in 1986 and you blew it.....
another question for sox fans...why are you so arrogant? you haven't won a damn thing since 1918....oh my god...the marlins have won 2 titles in 11 years of existance....so bow down to the YANKEE EMPIRE.
AS A DODGERS FAN, I WISH WE HAD AN OWNER LIKE GEORGE STEINBRENNER......OH HOW I WISH I WAS A YANKEE FAN.....at least i can admit it sox fans, its time that you do so as well....

The first 2 games were a bit of a disgrace, but honestly that 3rd game last night was absolutely amazing. Neither team ever had an upper-hand, and each play meant something. I haven't seen a game played that hard and with that much heart in a long time. Fantastic game, even if my Sox lost.

As for Ortiz needing to lose some weight... well... he is a rather large man. But you know what? 21 dingers and 75 RBI's before All-Star break... I don't want him to change a dang thing. In fact, if gaining more weight kept him on this pace, I would be there personally to feed him a few Krispy Kremes.

I'm not necessarily worried about the Sox as much as I'm worried about the Sox becoming "comfortable" with how they are playing. They're not necessarily playing poorly, but they could be playing a thousand times better. As Eric Neel at ESPN said: The Yankees have scored 415 runs through Wednesday, the Red Sox have scored 409; The Yankees have given up 357 runs, the Red Sox have allowed 358. Yes, there's a 7.5-game gap in the standings, but the gap rests on only seven runs difference in terms of performance. This thing is tight. The difference now is a little luck, and a little better job by the Red Sox of driving in runners in scoring position. Luck could decide to take a dance with Boston any time, and the gap in the standings could close right back up.

We'll see how everything pans out. Heck, it's not even All-Star Break yet.

Side note...
Does anyone else here follow Bill Simmons (ESPN writer for Page 2 and AVID Boston sports fan)? I read his column religiously, and have both laughed and cried along with him as I've followed the Sox over the years.

Anyways, I found this story particularly good:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/take/040702

It's an analysis of last night's game and the season in general. Good reading.

5. Manny Ramirez is a brilliant hitter, but he doesn't always come across as the sharpest knife in the drawer. Take Wednesday night's game against the Orioles. David Newhan smashed a deep shot to straight-away center at Fenway. Johnny Damon made the long run but couldn't catch up to it. Damon finally tracked the ball down, wheeled around and fired it toward the cutoff man in one motion. Only there comes left fielder Manny, out of nowhere, cutting off the throw for a reason known only to him. (In fairness, Manny did make a nice lunging grab.) By the time Manny got off the ground and made a relay throw of his own to the same infielder that Damon had been throwing to in the first place, Newhan had an easy inside-the-park home run.

HAHA

Fortunately for the Red Sox, popular does not always mean good. Offensively, Nomar was a force (when he wanted to be, and when there wasn't a game on the line). But defensively, he was giving up 2 or 3 outs a game because of his limited range. He blamed it on his injury, but really, he just plain wanted out of Boston. His ego took a MAJOR blow when the whole A-Rod deal was in the works, and he never recupperated. He did not want to play for the Sox, did not respect the fans, and completely lost the "always a smile on his face" attitude that made him a fan favorite.

What we got to replace him was a HUGE upgrade in defense, possible the worst aspect of the Sox team. With Mientkiewicz on 1st, Reese on 2nd, and Cabrera at SS, we have 3 gold glovers in the infield. And although we lose some of the Nomar's pop at the plate, it's not that large of a downgrade, either. Especially if Orlando is energized by playing at Fenway. Plus, Derek Lowe has had a bad season mainly because of the poor defense behind him. He is a ground ball pitcher, and the infield previously couldn't field the ball if the batter walked out and handed them the ball. Lowe had more unearned runs against him that most other teams! With an infield that can actually catch and throw, we should see a new Derek on the mound.

So, in theory, this deal was pretty good. We lose Nomah, which is definitely a shame. I was really hoping to see him retire in a Sox uniform. But at least the trades made sense, and I think both the Cubs and the Sox will see benefits from the deal.

Well the Sox are in Seattle for the next few days. I already know they will kill the M's, but I am going to the game Sunday, I think Arroyo is pitching which sucks since I was hoping for Schilling. It also sucks since I will miss Sunday's NFL games, but I get to see baseball's greatest offense so its all good.

Thats exactly what happened to me. I was suppost to see a Pedro game but I think one or 2 games before the one I went to was rained out so Pedros start was pushed back and I caught Arroyo instead. He has been pitching great recently though. I just hope 2 things happen, 1. Ichiro gets plenty of hits, 2. Sox win. Both will probably happen

Wakefield didnt look like himself last night. He was hitting alot of batters and walking alot of guys as well. Schilling will get his 19th win tonight though...

I agree, he had a great game, it would have been a shutout if the M's relief pitcher hadn't given up a homer to Cabrera in the 9th :(

Anyways, the M's better get some FA help in the offseason. Some rumored players are:

Lyle Overbay: Really wants to come to Seattle
Carlos Delgado: Wont stay in Toronto
Troy Glaus: Dont know much about his contract options
Matt Clement: Wants out of Chicago

Well just got home from the game at Safeco. Gil Meche (my favorite M's pitcher) got the win in a 2-0 M's win. The only runs were from a Raul Ibanez 2-run homer. Nonetheless, it was cool to see the Sox and nice to see Ichiro pick up hits #230 and #231 in the win. The only thing that sucks is that the Yankees won.

Its sort of disapointing, but the trade definately has helped out, and he probably wasnt gunna resign here, so that woulda just been throwin him away. I do like Cabrera hes had some moments already, offense and defensive.

2.5 Back, I just hope tomorrow the Sox win and the Yankees lose both
