Why is it that on TS2 the slice shot is the most effective shot in the game and the top spin shot is the worst unless you hold it down for ages and even then most of the time it is slow and very high allowing the opponent to slice or safe shot cross court or down the line?

In this game the most used and useful shot is slice which should be a defensive shot or to force the oppenent to play a harder shot from bellow the waist. The game should be realistic in that the most used (whilst still hard to aim) shot is top spin and is considered safe.

The flat shot is used to hit with power especially when the ball sits up above the waist height. this should be harder to control than top spin as it can tend to be over or under hit so that it goes long or hits the net respectively

The slice shot should be there to defend against well hit shots from the oppenent or to make them play a low shot. it should also be considerablely slower than the other shots.
its a shot to allow yourself time to get back into position or change the pace of a rally.

Risk shots should not be so hard to hit as they are used more often than not in tennis.
The hard risk shot more on hard courts and drop shots are used so often on clay. saying that whilst being easier to hit, should also have a pretty wide range of effectiveness as in if you time it pefectly should hit the corner or drop just over the net etc but if you just make the risk shot, it should still bit hit hard or drop short but not as accurately or short.

The same should apply to the serve as it is far to hard to hit an ace or at least put your opponent on the back foot as they can reach almost everything and normally will make it a very good return so you as the server loses any advantage you should have by serving.
apply the same as the risk shot in that only on the max shots are ace or damn near and close to the max shots challenge and push opponents whilst short or softer serves can be dispatched by the returner.

The height of a shot when hit should have a major effect on the shots power and accuracy e.g a top spin serve is there to kick the ball up high against the opponents back or forehand as this is much harder to hit with any real power or control.

Just a thought but could the stars rating be out of 100 instead of 10 on each ability as this allows for variation on ability between players for example meaning that nadal's (assuming hes in the next game) would have a shot that is higher over the net but drops quickly compared to say henman as nadal hits alot more spin where as henman hits a far flatter top spin shot. this would mean the players abilities would stand out more and make much more of an impact. thus allowing real tactical play like trying to avoid giving players certain shots.

Anyway thats enough for the moment, im tired and need sleep. However i do appologies for the length of this and would very much appreciate everyones opinions on my thoughts and hope that the 2k team will take note and use these ideas in TS3

word. 2k really needs to make a 3rd and hire some tennis pros to help them out. echoing your comlpaint, the game doesn't take into consideration what kind of shot you are facing when you return it. for example, lindsay dominates in real life because her shots are so powerful that her opponents can't put any angles on their returns. in the game, i slaughter lindsay because i can put whatever angle i want on her shots. the game needs a lot of work.

This game is awsome, the controls are the best thing about the game, you have complete control over your shots/returns. People moaning that the controls are crap, to me that means that they cannot play the game correctly.

okay. having comlete control over all your shots in a tennis game (or any sport game for that matter) is an obvious indication that the game lacks realism. what we're all "moaning" about is not that we can't play the game correctly but that the game does not factor in the level of difficulty in returning certain shots. what hallamn was trying to say was that regardless of how powerful or how well angled a shot is you can return the ball as if you were playing a high schooler. and unless you're in the top 25 on live, these people don't need your insight on how to play the game correctly. i most certainly don't.
