From the early clips and shots...Next Gen hockey still hasnt even been thought of :(

I really wish Ubisoft or Microsoft would work on sports titles. I liked Rivals, would love to see M$ do another round of sports titles....

Rivals was and is by far the funest hockey game ever due to the 5 on 5 multiplayer mode. 2k sports should impliment this feature in its up coming release and it would definitely kill EA.

Graphics won't make a game next-gen. All that will do is make it look nice.

Stuff like true online multiplayer (5 on 5) and better community support will.

EA and 2K have been giving us trinkets for way too long. Simple and minimal advances in gameplay with a stats upgrade basically.

2K in particular has really declined in the overall package.

I am not expecting 2K7 to be anywhere near next-gen. But then I'd be happy if they just managed to ship out a bug-free product this time around.

EA will never reach next-gen as long as they think all they need to do is concentrate on licensing the biggest alternative rock hit songs in the soundtrack and put some flashy menus in the game.

You're right the graphics look good but, will it be enough to make it better?

EA's hockey games have always looked great. But, their gameplay was always subpar. 2K has done a better job year after year of representing the game of hockey. Unfortunately, 2K has the worst game testers ever because all of their products usually have a large number of bugs and glitches...

If 2K could only iron out the wrinkles and upgrade the graphics abit, nhl 2k7 would be the best ever. I'm sure of it...

Pretty sweet screenshot, but the thing is, thats probably pre-rendered, the in game graphics probably wont be nearly that good. That being said, EA's games have always looked better than 2K's, but then again, 2k is more of a budget title, and the gameplay is better.

You know, you could try to be objective. I usualy buy both Titles, I get more fun out of the 2k ones tho, and if your refering to the PS3, it may be an all around better system, but 700 dollar price tag isnt going to be competitve with the 360 right away. Besides, most sports games are on all platforms anyway, including the 2k titles.

First of all it's "were" not "where" created, second of all I have done nothing but be a good little consumer for far to long with 2k and there subpar games that freeze and stick and plain don't work.I predicted that this would happen with the baseball franchise the second 2k got hold of the MLB license.2k has for the past few years been slipping and slipping in their testing and overall product compatibility for all systems.

As far as the forums go,yeah, they WERE created for people like me to voice our opinions,no matter how they are articulated.2k had a firestorm of complaints for a few months, did next to nothing to help the consumer (you, the loyal customer) and now the heat is dying down and they'll be right back to suckering their fans and supporters with subpar games again this fall.I've bought 2k and EA pretty much every year just to see the difference and this fall, when EA learns from 2k's mistakes and puts together a great lineup I'll be right there with them.

As far as you complaining...go jump off a bridge or building or any other high place you can get to...as it were.

I have been the MOST objective consumer I can be,but when the company sucks(2k and Take 2),they suck.

See all the threads about freezing and whatnot all over this forum.

I, for one, dont want 2K to kill EA, or vise versa. I want both to make a good competative game. We all benefit from it. Thats the problem with the whole exclusive rights garbage, no competative innovation.

I plan on buying both the EA and 2K NHL titles this year. Ill tell you this though, im very scepticle on ever buying another piece of 2K garbage again. This will be my final test.
(Ill buy both because my EB lets me return games for a full refund for any reason).

2k game play is better? I have never played such a glitchy sports title in my life. Yeah, EA is more arcade than sim, but at least they know how to test a game before releasing it. This game has tons of flaws and instead of patching it, they chose to completely ignore thier customers. As a previous poster stated, "2K/Take Two Sucks!"

Ok, now that I am back and dry after my jump from the bridge I can continue.

For me, This is a make or break year for both 2k and EA. EA has had almost 2 years to make a splash with it's first next gen hockey title. So this is it...put up or shut up.

2K on the other hand, makes a far more realistic hockey game, however you have to suffer through bug after bug and freeze after freeze, that they don't even seem to want to acknowledge. After the fiasco that was MLB 2k6 for the 360, I hope they have learned what they are doing and will release a decent working title this year...or else it will be up to a new 3rd party to step up and work on some hockey...and let's not forget, Ubisoft did buy the rights to the Rivals engine and name.

Agreed Offishall. The only thing EA has done better in hockey is their pretty menus.... Not something I really care about. 2K's glitches have been annoying but I've only been paying $30 Canadian for them. However, now it's next-gen with a $70 price tag on it so
2K had better get it right.

My plan: I'm renting both games and comparing them before I throw away my hard earned cash.

Those pics are nice... but there's one problem. You don't play from that view. All these companies show these closeups from replays or Cutscenes. But it's not real gameplay.

I've seen 2 EA trailers of NHL 07 for 360.... and it looked ok visually.... but it had the same AWFUL checking animations. Here is an EA check. You hit opponent... Opponent falls to Ice. WTF is that? It's horrible physics for one... and the animations look rediculous. Does anyone at EA actually watch or play hockey to see what real checks look like? Apparantly not for many years... including this year from those Trailers.

It's not going to be graphics with a shinier coat of paint on them that takes these games to the Next Gen level on 360 and PS3. It's going to be GAMEPLAY improvements... and smart AI. That covers puck and Checking physics etc... There should be like over 200 Check animations... but in EA's NHL it seems like there's only THREE!!! It's totally a joke. Forget all the Gimmicks and new fancy modes EA... get the Gameplay right! Go watch some Hockey films and find out what a CHECK looks like when a Forward plasters a Defensman into the boards. Make the hit Explode into the boards... and the boards bend and rattle. That's the type stuff that takes hockey games to the Next Level. Not the same lame check animations with nicer graphics and a shinier look.

I've lost faith in EA with the Hockey a while ago. I know NHL 2K isn't perfect and all. But it at least seems like they are TRYING and making an effort to make the 2K game better and more realistic. EA is to much about gimmicks... and not about Innovation on the ICE!
I hope EA proves me wrong with NHL 07. BUt from the Trailers I watched with the same animatons etc... I expect the same underachieving NHL game from EA... with a shinier coat of paint thrown on it.

Do some new CHECK Animations already EA!!!! And how about not having to wait an hour for an animation to finish on shots etc... You can't beat 2K's bang bang passing and shooting. Get your controls working EA where the CPU isn't doing 90% of the stuff or we have to wait for some dopey animation to finish just to shoot.

Again, nice pre-rendering... but why the HELL is Scott Neidermayer wearing an "A"?

Oh, I watched the video too, in the pre-rendering they have Lulongo as a Canuck, but in gameplay, he's still wearing Panthers colors. Also, a major pet peeve for me is getting the colors on the teams jerseys wrong, and they have succeeded in this. San Jose wears teal, not some kind of off sky blue, if your gonna concentrate on graphics first, at least get textures and colors right

It's foolish to get carried away with 'Replay' pics or still photos. you don't play on thos camera views. Show me some movie footage of the NHL 07 game in ACTION... where the puck and checking physics etc... don't suck like in previous versions. If the gameplay isn't any good and realistic.... the hottest looking graphics are WORTHLESSS!

Pretty sweet screenshot, but the thing is, thats probably pre-rendered, the in game graphics probably wont be nearly that good. That being said, EA's games have always looked better than 2K's, but then again, 2k is more of a budget title, and the gameplay is better.

There are a few guys that attended the NHL Community Day EA put on a few weeks ago and the guys that attended said those are real in-game shots and that the game actually looks better in motion.

The one guy who attended said that he loves 2K6 on the 360 and he feels that the gameplay of the next-gen 07 will rival 2K's.

One other thing I've noticed is that the goalie pads have real time physics. Check out the new shot of Luongo in his Vancouver gear. He's on one knee and his left pad is sliding around the leg like goalie pads really do.

I'm a 2K fan but since 2K3 I've seen this series taking a lateral slide. I'm hoping that 2K and EA give me something I can get excited for again. EA's last couple of games were fun for about 10 minutes but then the unrealistic gameplay kills it. But 2K's game has some flaws and it bores me. I don't feel like I'm immersed in the game and the skating really needs to be improved. The players float or hover above the ice and they still stop to take passes.

I've actually played very little hockey on my xbox since NHL2004 so I'm hoping that one or both of these company's can step up this year.

Edit: Raimu, that video of next gen footage was old stuff. The guys who've seen it first hand said as much and also made a point to say that the version they saw looked a lot better.

Also, ohjtbehaaave, I agree with a lot of what you said but I dont' care for the checking engine in the 2K games very much. There are plenty of times where my player will skate head on into a check and he'll slightly bounce back, not loose control of the puck, while the AI stumbles and then backs away.
2K does have much better gameplay but there are still issues with it. One thing that bothers me to no end is the stop and go passing and the fact that every player can stick handle with the same proficiency. The stickhandling engine really needs to be overhauled. I can't tell you how many games I've played where a 4th line scrub will stickhandle around 3 of my defenders all the while shrugging of checks and avoiding pock checks to score goals or get the puck out of their zone. It frustrates me to no end. I've been begging for Kush to change this but it's been 3 years and counting.
Both companies need to improve their games quite a bit. I just hope someone does.

Given the problems with the 2K6 title, you can bet that they'll sort those bugs out and having learned a few painful lessons along the way, put out something better.

EA has been sharpening its skates and taking practice shots for a while. Let's see what kind of performance they'll deliver when the puck is dropped and the game is on.

The good news for all of us is that both 2K and EA get to jump back onto the ice and try and score a game winner.

Sure we're a tough crowd - but hey, we're hocky fans. We'll cheer on any team that's working hard and trying to score a winner for us.

Sure they stunk up the rink with their last game. That shouldn't mean we boo the team before the faceoff of their next game does it?

I buy both games, I like both game for different reasons...

But...I hear about everyone wanting to "rent" the games before they buy them...but for whatever reason...The Blockbusters around here (The only place to rent games around here) don't have the games for almost a MONTH after the games are released...I have no idea why...but if I want to rent one of these games...I have to wait near a month, or take the dive and MAYBE throw 60 bucks down the toilet.
