Over at www.gametrailers.com there is an NHL 07 interview with David Littman and gameplay is shown as he talks. The game looks like amazing and blows 2k's out of the water at least graphically but the physics look alot more realistic plus the goalie animations are the best I have seen in a hockey video game.

Realism isnt 2k's thing. Its the recycle everything for every game routine.

I don't know....most of that looked just weird. Yes, the shootout was alright and the cut-scenes are as always of nice quality. But the gameplay/feel (from what I saw anyway..)? The players are sliding around - even warping sometimes - almost without purpose and direction; that part was horrific. You sure this isn't nhl2005? Felt familiar somehow...
And btw, is there a brand new offside rule which I don't know about, very strange indeed.
I really want to be able to like ea's titles but clips such as these make it so hard.

Well, NHL 2k6 did beat NHL 06 last year for the Gamer's Choice Award by a whooping 71% to 29%, but it does seem EA is closing the gap. I'm still gonna stick with 2k though.

Every year EA's game always "looks" better. But, as soon as the game is released people realize it is the same game as last year with a pretty new cover.
You all can believe what you want to but I'll wait for the game to be released before I pass judgement. 2K hockey has been at the top of the hill for a few years now, and unless those nagging bugs are still as persistent as they have been, 2K will stay at the top...
...atleast until EA buys the licsence...

Amen. Some people are always gonna be stupid and fall for these "tricks". But, when the games are released, it will once again be the same d.amn story as usual. History repeats itself...

I hope nhl 06 is sick, so you can take that stupid **** and say it to urself. 2k has been letting everyone down lately with their games such as the baseball and the glitches and freezes etc. Why aren't they giving us any clips, or screens and stuff like nhl 07 is. Prob cuz they're gonna release some crap again and take our money. And for the "gameplay" talk, at least you kno you can play nhl 07, and it won't freeze etc etc etc etc etc.....

I have to say that after producing nhl 2k5, that nhl 2k6 was a step backwards. The cpu refuses to shoot on breakaways, and they can hardly score or generate offense. Id prefer to play nhl 2k5 over nhl 2k6 any day.

When is EA going to add the possibility of holding a guy on the boards. I dont see any plays behind the net resulting from a good fight at the boards.

Why would EA do something like that? That would slow down the action, not very effective for a wild and crazy arcade game. right?

I just wish that 2k would steal the stick flex from ea and implement it before release, then I'd be really happy ;)

You can already do that with 2k, just hold the L trigger and move the right analogue. By watching the videos at IGN, it looks like its too fast, you cant settle in the offensive zone and try to fight at the corners for the puck or passing it around, pass it to the point, screen and shoot. It is as if its all about using the stick to deke. I hope 2k fixes the glitches and bugs from the previous games. The problem with 2k is that it seems that once they release the game, they dont care about supporting it and ignore the fact that they made some big mistakes (top corner goal in 2k6, wrap around goals).

That gameplay footage makes NHL 07 look like a joke! Pretty yes, but that gameplay looks the same as NHL 94.

Hey Wrathchild,
It's not a 'new' offsides rule. They went back to the tag-up offsides from pre mid-1990's. Basically, the play isn't whistled dead immediately, the offensive team has the opportunity to come back on-sides and then re-enter the O-zone.

Thanks! I'm however fully aware of the new/old offside rule - I just don't see it working properly in any of the clips I've seen so far. Same goes for icing pucks. But as always, I could be wrong ;)
Will check them out again closely this time.
*EDIT*
I knew I was right; if that isn't offside then I don't know what is: check the clip Florida-Calgary, between 0:44 - 0:48. Bouwmeester with the puck enters attacking zone while Jokinen (and Bertuzzi) still clearly in there. Jokinen does not re-enter the zone but instead receives the pass from Bouwmeester, all this occurs inside the attacking zone with a good margin. Am I wrong? (yes I am truly a nerd :) )
