Do you honestly believe that? An OK lineup? The only position that does not have an all star there is 2B. Pitching sucks? Brown, Vazquez, Mussina, Contreras, Rivera, White, Karsay + many more. You're right, that's a team destined to fail.

That wasnt a real trial
The Yankees are good for baseball because they ARE baseball, take out the Yankees and you'll lose half your fans.
I completly agree with REDSFAN2004
Brown couldn't win with the 3 runs the Dodgers gave him, how awful.
Vasquez had so much motivation in Montreal, IDK why he didnt do great
Moose has lost 2 games in a row, how awful.
Contreras is only great when he has a good game.
With Rivera closing the game, I just don't see how the Yankees can hold opponents to less than 5 runs.
Jorge Posada-he was only making a run for MVP last season
Jason Giambi-he didnt deserve to be on the cover of a videogame
Enrique Wilson-Pedro Martinez is so great against him
Derek Jeter-he cant lead a team hes led his whole career
Alex Rodriguez-could go down in history as teh greatest baseball player of all-time, big deal
Gary Sheffield-they call him the Sheff for no reason whatsoever
Bernie Williams-postseason HR leader, nothing special
Kenny Lofton-he isnt so fast...
Hideki Matsui-even with a year US experience, and 9 gained pounds in the offseason for power, I dont think he'll be that good.
Is that what you mean REDSFAN2004?

********. The Yankees are terrible for baseball. Baseball is about competition. Take out the Yankees and you just have a lot less people spending gobs of money on bumper stickers and Yankees caps, and you add a lot of fans that get to see their team have a legitimate chance at winning. Sometimes addition by subtraction is great. I hope the Yankees finish in last place.

If it wasn't for the Yankees baseball would be dead. They are baseball, The same way when somebody talks about Japanese baseball we think of the Giants, and World Soccer we think of Brazil. The world thinks of the MLB as "Yankees". They are so popular that no matter what city they go to, attendance SKYROCKETS. Therefore HELPING other teams to compete. Yankees or no Yankees Millwaukee payroll would still be 20 million. If they had a good owner, the man would use the MILLIONS that the Yankees paid the Brewers last year to IMPROVE the team, instead of actually CUTTING the payroll. King George can spend his money as he wishes. If he wants to pay a player that would be earning 5 million, 15 million... let him. Also I'm constantly hearing things about a salary cap. That is an awful idea, and should be considered unconstitutional. If you are a player (A-rod for example) and you DESERVE to make 20 million but the most any team is able to pay you is 2.5 million would you be happy about it? Tremere if you became a doctor, after going to school for who knows how many years, and finally earning your six figure salary, someone came along and said, "Doctors earn too much, especially in (Your City Here)". So they decided to cut your salary to 30,000. Would you be happy about it? By instituting a salary cap, you are hindering the players right to make a living. If someone will pay the money, the player deserves to earn the money. GAH, longest post ever! :D

********. If it weren't for the Yankees, the salaries *probably* wouldn't be so high. There would be A LOT more competition, since most of the better players leave to go to the Yankees for more money. That won't convince you, though, since you seem to be a Yankees fan. The game needs more competition amongst the CURRENT teams, expansion is not the answer. Putting a salary cap in place IS the answer, it will bring back player loyalty to some degree and bring the salaries and everything else to a more realistic, enomically-smart level.

Dude, you argument is so weak it's funny. No, it's sad. NO PLAYER DESERVES 20 MILLION DOLLARS. Get that through your head. Comparing baseball players and their salaries to that of a doctor is a very poor comparison. Doctors DO deserve to make a lot of money, and six figures certainly isn't a lot of money for what doctors do for a living, and the amount of stress they have. 20 Million Dollars to play a child's game? This is such a stupid argument, no wonder a salary cap was put in place in the NFL.

This is a touchy subject. If we look at most other major sports in the US they do have salary caps and players are not making as much as they do in baseball. The NBA had to go to a salary cap or they would have gone bankrupt. Teams are still able to be dominant because they are able to keep their good players by having the ability to pay them more. This could be good for baseball. Imagine the A's with Tejada and Giambi and their pitching staff. Now let's look at another sport that is popular worldwide, soccer. They are very few limits on soccer teams. They pay their stars ungodly amounts of money. In England Beckham is bigger than Jordan was in his prime, and soccer is not dying. Manchester United (English Premiere League Soccer) is like the Yankees, always spending money to improve their team.
With the Yankees you either love them or hate them. I hate them, but baseball would not be the same without the EVIL EMPIRE. Just ask Boston Fan. Nobody in Beantown wants to get rid of the Yankees. They love to hate the Yankees. This issue was going on way back in the 50's and 60's when the Yankees were winning titles, yet it was not around at all in the 80's and early 90's when the Yankees were Garbage.
A salary cap would allow teams to compete but totally disrupt what has been a great game that polices itself. The Yankees will not always be good. It goes in cycles.
BUT yes salaries in all sports are ridiculous. A guy gets 1.2 million for winning a freaking golf tournament these days!!!!!
