These are 2 great albums but i think illmatic was better simlpy cause it was probley the most influencial Hip-Hop album ever! It also redefined hip-hop in the 90's. All of the songs had a meaning and had great lyrics.

I agree, as much as I love the Wu, Illmatic is the best Hip-Hop album ever. 36 Chambers is my personal favorite, but I'd say Illmatic did more for the Hip-Hop genre.

"Nazareth Savage"
"Thief's Theme"
"Made You Look"
"Street Dreams (Remix f/ R. Kelly)"

"Nas Is Coming" - weak Dre beat, but Nas destroys it with his slick "Escobar" flow

vs.

Talib Kweli - Quality

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v297/Joe_Paco/B0000719UL.jpg
1."Keynote Speaker"
2. "Rush"
3. "Get By"

11. "The Proud"
12. "Where Do We Go"
13. "Stand To The Side"
14. "Good To You"
15. "Won't You Stay"

I love both of these albums, although I lost my copy of Quality awhile back, so it's hard to choice between the two. But, I'd have to go with Black On Both Sides, since that was the album that helped me find out about both Mos and Talib. Also, IMO it's a bonfide classic L.P. that should be looked at for where MC's can take the art form if they weren't afraid to get away from all this "thug", "hustla" and "dopeboy" bulls**t.

I was browsing the Rolling Stone's list of best albums of all time today and they had The Marshall Mathers LP at #303, Enter the Wu-Tang at #386, and Illmatic at #400. What's with that? The Marshall Mathers LP ahead of the two best hip-hop albums of all-time! The Marshall Mathers LP did out sell the others by like nine to one, but still this has to be a product of when the list was made and how popular it was when it was created. In my opinion it’s ridiculous…

I think Black on Both sides is better because it has a lot more classic songs like Hip Hop,Ms. Fat Booty, Umi Says etc...

Quality is a good album but BOBS is better.

ILLMATIC hands down. I love the Wu. 36 Chambers is a head banging classic. But ILLMATIC is that thing. MY favorite joint is the first single. It aint hard to tell. This is the remix version: The second verse is different from the original.

The buddha monk’s in your trunk, turn the bass up
Not stories by Aesop, place your loot up, parties I shoot up
Nas, I analyze, drop a jew-el, inhale from the L
School a fool well
You feel it like braille ain’t hard to tell
I kick a skill like Shaquille holds a pill
Vocabulary spills I’m Ill
Plus Matic I freak a beat
Slam it like Iron Shiek
Jam like a tech with correct techniques
So analyze me, surprise me, but can’t magmatize me
Scannin’ while you’re plannin’ ways to sabotage me
I leave’em froze like her-on in your nose
Nas could rock well
It ain’t hard to tell

Hook 3x
It ain’t hard to tell

- Nas -
What’s a beat if the rap don’t click
I spit rhymes like I’m sick, dying loss in a pit
The only way I can escape is by vocals
Verbalize a strife
Stabbin’ ears like a knife hood like
The Prophet of the gutter
Lyrics are silk mega butter
I flow never stutter
Clever poetic brothers on a mission
Dissin’ all the perps who fraud
Scrams listen ??? the experts with ????
Burn your pen and pads, mics you’ll need not
Well I be packin’ like a rasta in a weed spot
Hittin’ your hearts like a hollow tip
Verbally illin’ minds manipulated
My raps a nickel-plated
I illustrate it, X-rated, then move out
Nas the parlayer takes you on a new route
It’s suicide poetry released from a cell
With a minced clientele, I excel
It ain’t hard to tell

Hook 3x
It ain’t hard to tell

- Nas -
Now, I’m blessed with the finesse to express like Shakespeare
The blocks "Cape Fear" drop metaphors when the breaks clears
My mic check is life or death, breathin’ a sniper’s breath
I exhale the yellow smoke of buddha through righteous steps
Deep like "The Shining", sparkle like a diamond
Sneak a Uzi on the island in my army jacket linin’
Hit the Earth like a comet, invasion
Nas is like the Afrocentric Asian, half-man, half-amazin
And in my physical, I’ll express through song
Delete stress like Moltrin, extend strong
Drink Moet with Medusa, give her shotguns inhale
From the spliff that I lifted in Hell
It ain’t hard to tell

Hook 3x
It ain’t hard to tell

Suicidial Thoughts on the Ready to Die album is pretty deep. Shows what BIG was really feeling, and of course Juicy is a classic. I think Ready to Die is the better album even though Pac's had a whole second disc.

And, on the one above, I'd take Mos Def. Umi Says is one of my favorite Hip-Hop songs, and I just really like Mos Def's style and lyrics.

This right here is like watching all 13 episodes from the 4th season (this season that's on T.V.) of the Wire. All the way up to the point where Bodie gets killed, Cutty goes into the hospital with gunshot wounds to the leg, some of the narcs from the 1st season are having a change of heart towards certain inner city youths, Marlo's gang (Chris & Snoop) with a body count over 20 across B-More, Wee-Bey's son (Namond) aint built for the streets, Poot is a coward, Omar owns both west & east Baltimore (shhh, he probably owns Maryland), and Carcetti being grilled about that $54 million dollar educational fiasco.

Oh yeah, it's worth witnessing if you haven't already......

"The Listening" was unquestionably the best Hip Hop album of 2003 that nobody heard of. It was an impressive and focused debut, which brought about a refreshing sound while simultaneously invoking an old-school vibe. Anyone that's a fan of Natives Tongues - Afrika Bambaataa, ATCQ, KMD, Chi-Ali, Jungle Brothers, De La Soul & Prince Paul, Monie Love, Leaders Of The New School, Black Sheep, Queen Latifah, Black Star (Mos Def & Talieb Kweli), Common, Da Bush Babies, Third Degree, The Beatnuts, Kelvin Mercer aka Posdnuos and even Pete Rock & CL Smooth or Lupe "The Killer" Fiasco without a doubt should be feeling this album. From their lyrics on Pete Rock's "Soul Survivor II", to the Okayplayer compilation, and most recently on The Minstrel Show" and "Seperate but Equal" with DJ Drama, LB has been putting in work. The Chittlin Circuit 1.5 is definitely a must have for anyone who considers themselves a fan of good hip hop music, like myself. Man-o-man, it's good to see that hip hop is still alive! This is a wonderful CD with top notch production which is on point and the vocabulary spill is inspiringly deep and not the same crap you hear over, and over, and over on every commercial radio hit. 9th Wonder and Khrysis are musical marvels, placing their head-nodding rythms ever so gracfully under Pooh and Tay's vocals. Perfect marriage of beats and lyrics. With 9th Wonder on most of the production -- you simply can't go wrong.

Both are very good albums. But, I'd take The Documentary over the new one. It's a classic and is one of my Top-15 All Time favorites albums. Songs like Dreams and Like Father, Like Son. Classic.

The new one is good though and everyone into him should check it out for sure. But, IMO it just is not as good as his debut...

“Show Me What You Got” is so annoying, it’s already getting overplayed. I’ve heard it enough already, no more. So I’ll give the edge to Snoop…. Blue Carpet, what will they think of next?

Keep in mind “Show Me What You Got” is the only song I’ve heard of both of these albums…
