I don’t like to play bass… I’m not that into fish.

How about the bass guitar? Do you like that any better?

Let me specify, I like to eat fish, not playing them… and I still don’t like playing bass though.

I've never played bass. I admire folks who can do so though. Bass and drums to me, are the best instruments in the world.

I love the drums....I sit in Guitar Center for hours just playing....I really want to learn bass, and then maybe guitar if I can master the bass.

Start with the guitar and then playing the bass will seem much less complex.

My friend Joe (who is amazing on the bass, I must say :)) told me just the opposite....now I don't know who to believe!

By the way, I hope to see you as a regular contributer to the music discussions, since music is the one thing we agree on.

Well, I can only speak for myself I guess, but I started on the guitar and can pick up and play the bass with some competence, where as my friend that has played the bass for years can't seem to make the transition to guitar.

Or I could just learn citar, since it's the most difficult instrument to play.....then guitar AND bass will seem like a breeze!

I started with guitar then moved to bass for a while then quit both… that was just in case anybody cares.

Yes, but can you play all three guitar parts in the song at once?

That I once wrote a song about a stand off between a monkey and a hot dog vendor.

I think we can all agree that Drum N Bass is ten times better than all other forms of rock....

Ok, so maybe it's just me that thinks that, but the point is, I really don't care about hearing the guitar at all....I just wanna listen to the drums and the bass.

Yeah, I love Les Claypool. He is easily one of the best to ever touch a bass. I got to see him at the Saltair in Salt Lake City and The Odgen in Denver. What I found interesting is that both times he seemed to have stage fright (I've heard he is a very shy guy), but still put on an incredible show.

I also love the weird bands he gets to open his shows.

Cliff Burton was an awesome player. I also think that Jason Newstead is an underrated bass player. His bass solo on the Binge & Purge album is great stuff. :D

I'm saving up for a bass so my guitar playing friend and i can start a band.

My band needs a lead guitarist and possibly a bass player. Right now we have my friend Brian for vocals and rhythm guitar and me for drums....but we still have no clue who we're gonna get for lead guitar and we're still working on persuading my friend Joe to join and play bass for us.

Jimi Hendrix called me from the grave and asked me to quit playing guitar so he could keep his title of best of all time. Long story short I quit just to humor the dead guy.

I'll be taking Jimi's title soon.

I play 7 string guitar and 5 string bass.It is great fun.Billy Sheehan is probably the best rock bass player.Les Claypool is great,as is John Myung of Dream Theater.

I was lucky enough to see Cliff Burton, not just a great player, but the real heart and soul of Metallica. They really only made 1 great cd after him,JUSTICE.

John Paul Jones is also super great,in a different kind of way.Botsy Collins is wonderful. All of Frank Zappa's bass players rule.

Jazz music as a whole is great for bass.

John Paul Jones was good. Led Zeppelin was the type of band that wasn't made great just because of one person, but was really the sum of its parts. IMO, at least. They are one of my top 3 favorites.

I also agree with the jazz statement. A nice stand up bass and a good piano makes me happy.

For anyone that loves a good bass-line I suggest you check out In the House from Jurassic-5.

My dad usually doesn't like rap, because it's not melodic and the bass-lines are usually just simple and boring...but he loves that song.
