So which band is better? Personally I can't go against Metallica mainly because of Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and And Justice For All. Those 3 albums were nearly flawless IMO. It was the closest to thrash perfection I've ever heard. Mustaine is credited with 2 tracks on Ride the Lightning but the rest of the album was all Metallica. With that said, Megadeth isn't too far behind. Some of their best work is right up there with Metallica's. Holy Wars.....The Punishment Due is one of my favorite metal songs of all time. Hangar 18 and Peace Sells are also among the best. Megadeth has a long list of classics that can't be ignored. I was never a big Megadeth fan in the past but I've really started to appreciate their music over the past few months. Mustaine truly is a metal genius.

Both bands are quite similar in the fact that they were great, but got pretty lame.Mustaine is probably doing slightly better work these days.

I'd say the best Metallica albums are Master of Puppets,Ride The Lightning,Kill 'Em All,Garage Days(the original, and the expanded release late in the 90's),and And Justice For All.Load & Reload are ok,but very depressing.St Anger is uh,let us not speak of that.

For Megadeath,Peace Sells,So Far So Good So What?, and Rust in Piece are absolute classics.Killing is My Business and Countdown to Extinction are notable, although not without flaws. After that I can't really recommend anything, although I have heard a few tracks off their other CD's that were decent.

For lead guitar playing,Megadeath has the edge.Sorry Kirk, you're great, but Marty Friedman has you beat,as do the 2 dudes before him.Dave Mustaine is actually a pretty good lead player himself, and of course a phenomenal rhythm player. The fact that he sings and plays that stuff is insane.Hetfield is a decent lead player for his occasional solos, and a great rhythm player(and vocalist)too, but Mustaine's work is more intricate.

metallica is one of my favorite bands many here know by now,i love all their albums except for the st.anger garbage, even though shoot me again or whatever that songs name is on that album is my only fave song on that album, and for megadeth they are a great band to though,i also enjoy all of their music to,i don't get out much because of no car but once i do i will make sure to pick up all of their albums,i have atleast heard them all and i do like them though.

Well,Metallica up until Load actually was quite a good band. While I didnt really like the Black album compared to their previous efforts. It wasnt near as bad as what they have released since.Megadeth has been more consistent but has only three albums that are truely awesome(Peace Sells,Rust In Peace, and Countdown to Extinction). The rest is pretty much the same formulated rock with a little twist from album to album.Overall I give the edge to Megadeth, but Metallica was far better in their prime.

Megadeath is not important. Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath, however, are. :)

I wouldn't say that.Show me somebody in Maiden or Sabbath who can actually play Megadeath's material.I do like Sabbath better overall, but I'd say Maiden and Megadeath are about equal in importance.

Maiden do put on incredible shows,Steve Harris, their bass player,is one of the most energetic performers ever.

I wasn't questioning Megadeath's influence or talent, I'm just not a big fan of them

Cliff Burton wouldn't have either. He was a much bigger force in that band than people realise.
