So who do you think is the most overrated band and or song?

I’d have to say the most overrated song is Another One Bites The Dust by Queen. I hear a lot of people talking about it and saying it’s the best queen song ever when we all know Bohemian Rhapsody is… if you disagree you need to die (unless you’re Infallable then you can live because Under Pressure is pretty good too).

I think the most overrated band would be U2. Don’t get me wrong I like U2, but they are far from what they appear to be. Plus Bono is a loser…

Another one Bites the Dust is a good song but we all know that the best Queen song is Bohemian Rhapsody. I'd have to agree with you 100%.

The most overrated is Green Day. Easily, they stink...

Green Day and U2 are the two most overrated bands. The reason you don’t like Green Day is because you’re not an emo… well I hope you’re not, I’m not a big fans of emos.

More overrated bands:
Kid Rock
The Sex Pistols
Audioslave
Coldplay

AOBTD isn't even the most over-rated Queen song. That honor belongs to We Will Rock You. I like Bohemian Rhapsody, but I've got it 3rd or 4th on the list of Queen songs.

U2 is a little over-rated, but the most over-rated band is either AC/DC or the Rolling Stones. The Stones because they basically copied exactly whoever was popular at the time and AC/DC because they just aren't that good.

Don't get me wrong, they have done a ton for the World, more than most artists. And, Bono is a hero, they are legends. I just can't stand the music. Not sure why, but to me it all sounds the same and the messages aren't all that great in the lyrics IMO. I love that genre, just not U2. funny how you never mention Big L or Jam-Master Jay. maybe you have a bit of jealousy towards the GOAT (2pac) huh?

Jam Master Jay acquired his fame long before his death.

Big L is extremely overrated by some, and underrated by others. It seems like 50% of people say he's top 10 all time, which he's not, and others never even acknowledge him, which is also wrong.

I don't know why I'd have any jealousy, but 2Pac is not even close to being the GOAT.

KRS-One, Rakim, Nas, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, Kool G Rap, Kool Moe Dee, Melle Mel, GZA......even guys/girls like Canibus, Chino XL, and Lauryn Hill have him beat in my eyes.

You can't give Pac all the credit. Lots and lots of artists made and were Hip-Hop, they all added their own ingredient. To be honest, Pac got alot more attention than most groups and artists, due to his troubles and beef, and that's what built him such a big fanbase compared to others in the late 80's to mid 90's. Pac is a legend, don't get me wrong, but IMO he isn't the GOAT or is he alone, "Hip-Hop"...

It was also about partying and having fun, what hip hop is about. And if they were still alive today, the game would be totally different than it is, and probably wouldn't have this snapping **** or chicken noodle soup garbage that we have today.

But Tupac was on another level, not only was he a great rapper, he was an amazing poet. Very intellectual and very intelligent.

You're My Best Friend is their best song.
Most overrated bands? How 'bout the Beatles, Nirvana, the Beach Boys and the Chili Peppers.
Songs, I'd go with Stairway to Heaven, Teen Spirit, Sweet Home Alabama, School's out for summer, and a good portion of Boston's songs, as they're all basically the same.

hooman, you beat me to it. I agree that Nirvana is overrated. They have some catchy toons, but that's about it. You can't understand the singing most of the time and the playing really isn't that good. They just happened to come around at the right time. Speaking of that, the whole grunge movement was overrated too. Blink 182 got overrated once they got popular and went mainstream.

I would have to disagree with Stairway being overrated. Over-played, yes, but not overrated. I don't think you can really say that any Led Zeppelin song is overrated, as they are all really, really great.

1st of all,Stairway is an Epic,so even grouping it with tose other songs is nonsense.Secondly,I've noticed you that you said before that was an easy song to play.Well,I seriously doubt you can play that song accurately,or that you could even come close on the solo. It's not terribly difficult, but it has great feel, and playing a song with a band is a lot harder than playing something by itself, especially the simplified, abbreviated version that most people who claim to play Stairway actually play.

Besides being a huge influence on Heavy Metal and hard rock bands,Zeppelin also were magnificent with the acoustics, and the drum sound(and playing) of John Bonham is right up there with old school funk as far as being the cornerstone of Hip-Hop.

In 100 years,Zeppelin will still be around, unlike 99% of the music today.

sleepytercel
November 9th, 2006, 08:06 AM
I'm not a huge fan of Greenday, but I don't like to place them as EMO. Their sound isn't really emo, though their look certainly can be. Greenday recieved their sound from bands like Bad Religion (which is an excellent band, and you can learn a lot from Greg Graffin), and Offspring. I think Blink 182 created that typical EMO sound that is shared by bands like Good Charlete. Both suck tremendously.

Well for one, Hiphop is not about partying and having fun. Sure it's supposed to be fun, but that's not it's original and true purpose. The purpose of Hiphop is to educate AND entertain. Hence the phrase Edutainment.

Rakim was/is just on another level with his lyrics. And he did it all without excess profanity. He used it when it was needed, but never just threw it around for no reason.

Planet, Earth, was my place of birth
Born to be the soul controller of the universe
Besides the part of the map I hit first
Any environment I can adapt when it gets worst
The rough gets goin, the goin gets rough
When I start flowin, the mic might bust
The next state I shake from the power I generate
People in Cali used to think it was earthquakes
Cause times was hard on the Boulevard
So I vote God and never get scarred and gauled
But it seems like I'm locked in hell
Lookin over the edge but the R never fell
A trip to slip cause my Nikes got grip
Stand on my own two feet and come equipped
Any stage I'm seen on, or mic I fiend on
I stand alone and need nothin to lean on
Going for self with a long way to go
So much to say but I still flow slow
I come correct and I won't look back
Cause it ain't where you're from, it's where you're at
Even the (ghetto)

I learn to relax in my room and escape from New York
And return through the womb of the world as a thought
Thinkin how hard it was to be born
Me bein cream with no physical form
Millions of cells with one destination
to reach the best part as life's creation
Nine months later, a job well done
Make way, cause here I come
Since I made it this far I can't stop now
There's a will and a way and I got the know-how
To be, all I can be and more
And see, all there is to see before
I'm called to go back to the essence
It's a lot to learn so I study, my lessons
I thought the ghetto was the worst that could happen to me
I'm glad I listened when my father was rappin to me
Cause back in the days, they lived in caves
Exiled from the original man, they strayed away
Now that's what I call hard times
I'd rather be here to exercise the mind
Then I take a thought around the world twice
From knowledge to born back to knowledge precise
Across the desert, that's hot as the Arabian
But they couldn't cave me in, cause I'm the Asian
Reachin for the city of Mecca, visit Medina
Visions of Nefertiti, then I seen a
mind keeps traveling, I'll be back after
I stop and think about the brothers and sisters in Africa
Return the thought through the eye of a needle
For miles I thought and I just brought the people
Under the dark skies, on a dark side
Not only there, but right here's an apartheid
So now is the time for us to react
Take a trip through the mind and when you get back
Understand your third eye seen all of that
It ain't where you're from, it's where you're at
Even the (ghetto)
Even the (ghetto)

No more props, I want property, in every borough
Nobody's stoppin me, because I'm thorough
Rhymes I make gimme real estate for me to own
Wherever I bless a microphone
Double-oh-seven is back and relaxin
On point and reactin, and ready for action
I'm so low key that you might not see me
Incognito, and takin it easy (ghetto)
Quiet as kept on a hush hush
In front of a crowd, I get loud, there's a bumrush
Be calm, keep a low pro and play the background
Hopin the whack rapper put the mic back down
So rip it, break it in half, go 'head and slam it
Cause when it's time to build I'm a mechanic
of bondin and mendin, attachin and blendin
So many solos, there is no endin
People in my neighborhood, they know I'm good
From London to Hollywood, wherever I stood
Footprints remain on stage ever since
Sidewalks and streets, I leave fossils and dents
When I had sex, I left my name on necks
My trademark was left throughout the projects
I used to get rich when I played c-lo
When I rolled 4, 5, 6, they go, "We know"
So I collect my cash then slide
I've got my back, my gun's on my side
It shouldn't have to be like that
I guess it ain't where you're from, it's where you're at

I'm not sure which battle you were following, but 2nd Round K.O. is considered to be a top 3 all-time diss track behind Ether and No Vaseline.

Maybe you should ya know.....have a basic knowledge of Hiphop before you post again, mmkay?

Ok I will admit that I was wrong about the Canibus thing, I actually was thinking of another battle after I looked it up.

First of all KRS-One wasn't on Tupac's level at all. Sure he was a good lyricist but don't you think your being a little biased. I mean look at your name. Tupac was just as good a lyricist as KRS-One if not better, Pac was an amazing poet but on top of that he was consistent with the records he put out. And I know damn well he sold a hell of a lot more that Krs did. Probably to this day KRS-One hasn't sold more than Pac. But its more than that. You are making Tupac seem like he was just a ignorant black man who couldn't rap and that KRS is god. I could sit here and just copy and paste lyrics all day from his songs and poetry to show how talented he really was. Pac was so versatile. And you can't sit here and say thats not true like you are doing now.

Rakim is a close second so Im not gonna argue with that.

Well for one, even 2Pac's biggest fan will tell you that he was no lyricist. Of every rapper ever, he is by far the most poetic, but his lyrics were nothing special. His flow and poetic value were where he shined.

Record sales prove nothing, and mean nothing.....moving on.

I never said 2Pac couldn't rap, I even listed him as 12th best all-time on my list, all I'm saying is that he doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Rakim, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, Nas, or Chuck D.

Lyrically probably not. But honestly as much as I like Nas I wouldn't put him in the top ten lyricist category either. To me, his style is a lot like how Tupac's was. I would probably put Eminem there first pre-Encore.

Coldplay are definately way too popular for sucking so bad.Another group that gets too much props, even though I like their latest cd is The White Stripes.I agree with whomever posted that Ac/DC are, along with Nickelback and all those other formula rock bands that make so much damn money off mostly women.GO FIGURE.

Ac/DC blow away those other bands, although their last great album was 'For Those About To Rock',which came out in 1981!

Fly on The Wall(1985) wasn't too bad,but they should probably retire.

if ur talking lyrically wise.... canibus is better than tuapc and krs one... if tupac rapped in the mid 80's with rakim, krs one and big daddy kane etc, he will just be another good rapper... he started at the time when the west and east coast were having beef with each other... i think tupac is a great rapper but hes a hypocrite... RAKIM IS THE GOAT

I like Jimmy Eat World.Their sound is quite polished sounding, especially on "Futures" but the songs are better written than most groups.Besides most music these days is polished, but at least all Jimmy Eat Worlds music doesnt sound the same.

I know its been said, but new versions of Green Day.

Second coming of punk? please, these guys are tools, about as punk as Coldplay.

Don't mind Coldplay, dont really listen, but its not that bad.

U2 however. Seriously. The Edge? You can't be a mediocre guitar player and have a nickname. Oh yeah, if you're 30+ and balding, just take the beanie off, we know the Edge is going bald, just give it up. You aren't 20 anymore.

I must say... The Beatles were perhaps the best Rock band of their time, and are the best Classic Rock band now. But, compared to Modern Rock bands, they still gather the same hype. They are terrific in my opinion... but they are still overrated (that compared to today's good music). Not to say they were overrated then. Don't get me wrong, here.

And any rap is terrible in my opinion. So, if a lot of people consider a rap song "good", I consider it "overrated".

Some rap and hip hop songs are good but then others suck. But I agree the Beatles are one of the best bands.

Led Zeppelin was complete garbage… I can’t stand any song made by them. Plus Kansas, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, and maybe Chicago all own The Doors.

How can the beatles be overated? they have had 27 singles all of which are beautiful works of art.

How can u say that Led Zeppelin is garbage? They are the best hard rock band of all time. They were proably the first hard rock band and set the stage for other bands. THey were the only band that could actually play solos.

Btw, the Rolling Stones are overrated.

Led Zeppelin is overrated, but still a great band. Yet they remain one of my favorites. But speaking of overrated, The Doors. What a mediocre band. Their skill as musicians was overrated, their "songwriting GENIUS" was completely overblown, and their eccentric lead singer got girls swooning like a freaking boy band, but they ignored the fact that the music was atrocious. They have maybe 2 or 3 songs I can bear listening to, the rest are GARBAGE.
