Inspired by the overrated bands thread.
I'd go with Supertramp and Foreigner, with Three Dog Night near behind.

Three Dog Night is underrated now, but in their time they were incredibly OVERRATED, because their music was more pop-rock that parents could approve of. Foreigner isn't really underrated either, one of the top grossing bands of the 80s? Supertramp I can get behind though, Logical Song.

I would have to say Emerson, Lake and Palmer.

Theory of a Deadman

And if you haven't heard of them, their name isn't their style (and if you like Alternative/Modern Rock, they're very good).

Well, I'll take your word for it, I wasn't around when these bands were making their hits. I'm talking about the current time.

Unsane is really underrated.

Seriously check out Unsane’s Occupational Hazard. The best tracks are “Committed”, "This Plan", "Over Me" and “Understand”. I’m willing to bet that you won’t like them but I think they’re worth a listen. Occupational Hazard is my third favorite album.

Big L is underrated...

That depends who you're talking to. I've always said that he's the most overrated and most underrated of all-time.

Some people rank him between 2-8th all time, and everyone else doesn't even really acknowledge him. Well, it seems that way, at least.

He's not even close to top 10, but at the same time, he belongs somewhere between 20-35.

Underrated songs?
Don't Fear the Reaper.
One of the greatest, but I rarely see it with the other "big boys".

propagandhi is probably the most unknown and underrated great band i know. its funny that out of the small section of music called punk rock most "punks" have never even heard of them. but they like it that way and they would never change for somebody else. probably the smartest group of people i could ever even imagine. also they offend most of their would be listeners with their politics and ideals but thats what makes them so great especially when what they say is true
