The Hurricanes Blow Through Boston
![]() ![]() Video highlights can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDmxDccRntY In a frenzied up and down game the surging Carolina Hurricanes blew through the conference leading Bruins last night and captured a 3-1 victory. In what appears to becoming an unnerving trend in this year's squad, the Bruins played down to the level of their competition. One may even goes as far as to say they underestimated the Canes, a very dangerous trend that seems to be taking hold. "Look, there forechecking was unrelenting and we didn't have an answer," a surprisingly self-critical head coach Claude Julien said. "That falls on me and the rest of the coaching staff. We get paid a lot of money to come up with answers and, well, we just didn't." ![]() Carolina forwards causing a turnover in the Bruin's zone which led to a goal. Cane's forward, Erik Cole, was a direct beneficiary of the forechecking pressure Carolina provided as he scored the first goal of the evening off of a Bruin defensive zone turnover. Cole was applying pressure along with his teammate and forced the Boston defenseman, Steve Montadore, to cough up the puck dangerously close to his own net. Cole then gathered it in and backhanded the puck into the lower left-hand corner of the goal. ![]() Hurricane forward Erik Cole The Hurricanes added to their lead with a breakaway goal by forward Bryan Smolinski late in the second period, a goal that was once again made possible by the pressure brought by the Canes. This time it wasn't the forecheck but the backcheck that created the turnover. A scrum ensued just beyond the Cane's halfboard and Carolina was able to eventually control the puck and then find a streaking Smolinski in the neutral zone. The Bruin defenseman somehow let Smolinski behind them and he had clear sailing to the net. ![]() Hurricane forward Bryan Smolinski Bruin goalie, Tim Thomas, allowed Smolinski's first shot to sail over his left shoulder but luckily it hit the left post and for a very brief instant Thomas thought the worst was over. That turned out not to be the case as the puck rebounded out in front of the net and before Thomas could smother it a wide-eyed Smolinski spooned it in the waiting net. The Hurricanes and Bruins exchanged third period goals for a final tally of 3-1. While the Bruins still lead the Eastern Conference by three points over the rising Penguins (next week's Game of the Week) they understand they have a long way to go if they want to be considered legitimate Stanley Cup contenders. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Okay, here is the situation. I've been away for roughly three to four weeks (vacation and work related trips) so I haven't been able to play my franchise. It is now Labor Day weekend so I figure great, I'll be able to play some Bruin hockey and catchup on my franchise. I pour a glass of wine, sit it in my favorite recliner, insert 2k9, load said franchise, and holy crap, I have no games on my schedule! I literally have no games scheduled for the current week or any week in the future! I keep pressing the right trigger button to advance the weeks to see if anything pops up. Nothing! And, on top of that, pressing the left trigger does not allow me to go back to previous weeks. So I say to myself, self, "Quit and then reload, it may be a glitch. If that doesn't work load your backup file." I do all of that and the same thing keeps happening. I'm at January 13 in my franchise with no games left on my docket. This is a new one on me. This isn't a franchise freezing issue, this is a games disappearing issue. Look, I really, really like 2k9 and have enjoyed working on this franchise and I really, really don't want it to end this way so, if anyone out there has run into this situation and has been able to find a cure I obviously would love to hear about how you did it. Thanks in advance to anyone that may be able to help. |

Ugh!!
![]() All other games and game saves are fine. Anyone have any suggestions? Hey, maybe this is a hidden feature, the "lockout feature." The owners have decided to lockout the players and cancel the rest of the season due to their outrageous demands! Boy, that's an in-depth feature! |
