Jordan Weaver Crowned First Winner of 2K Sports' Hockey Hall of Fame Tournament presented by Xbox 360

02/02/09

Jordan Weaver, a 25-year-old from Vancouver, B.C., had the season of a lifetime for any hockey fan. Not only did the diehard Canucks fan win an all-expenses paid trip to the 57th NHL All Star Game in Montreal, but while there he secured his own place in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Weaver beat out Chris Ryan from Toronto to become the first winner of the 2K Sports' Hockey Hall of Fame Tournament presented by Xbox 360. Weaver and Ryan were the last two -- out of more than 14,000 registrants – players standing after the month-long competition in September. Both were flown to Montreal in January to face of head-to-head in the final game on the NHL All-Star Red Carpet Event at the Bell Centre, right before the All-Star skills contest.

Weaver, playing with his beloved Canucks, defeated Ryan’s Penguins 3-1 for the championship, while NHL 2K9 cover athlete Rick Nash of the Columbus Blue Jackets provided play-by-play of the game.

“For a long time I've played and always wanted to win, and wasn't quite sure how good I was until this past weekend beating an opponent in a championship game on a 35-game win streak, which I've never even done on easy mode against the computer, and by no means was easy” said Weaver.

In addition to the trip to the All-Star Game, Weaver’s name will be etched on the 2K Sports HHOF Championship Award, which will reside at the Hockey Hall of Fame in the exclusive NHL 2K Sports interactive area. Plus, Weaver’s name and digital likeness will be immortalized as a free agent  in next year’s NHL 2K10.

But Ryan didn't leave empty handed.  In his 2nd straight All-Star appearance, having been one of four finalists at the NHL® 2K8 All-Star Tournament in Atlanta, Ryan not only made it to the finals of the Hall of Fame Tournament on the Xbox 360, but also beat out all Canadian gamers in the Nintendo Wii NHL 2K9 tournament. His Wii victory earned Ryan the opportunity to play against Western Conference All-Star Rick Nash on the ice during the All-Star Game.
